vacation rental description

Only minutes away from world-class speckled trout fishing waters, our comfortable 3 bedroom vacation home is located on the Apalachee Bay in Shell Point, Florida (30 miles south of Tallahassee). This 1492 sq. ft. modular home is located in gated Paradise Village of Shell Point, which has a community swimming pool and a public beach within walking distance. Right out our back door is a boat dock located on a deep-water canal, which is convenient to a nearby boat launch. The living quarters feature 3 bedrooms, 2 baths (master has a Jacuzzi tub and separate shower), family room, laundry room, fully equipped kitchen and screened-in porch. The family room is a large, open area furnished with a fully stocked entertainment center (32" TV, VCR, DVD, 300 Disc CD), comfortable den furniture, pool table and bar area. The dining area is surrounded by sliding glass doors and windows, which offers a beautiful view of the canal, which extends to the bay. Enjoy your morning coffee, while looking out for blue herons, pelicans and white egrets that feed in the canal ... or the fish feeding and jumping ... or an occasional dolphin that wanders up from the bay. This area adjoins the screened in porch where there is another dining area and a couple of rocking chairs for kicking back . Our accommodations will sleep 8 people comfortably, and consist of a king size bed, queen size bed, 2 twin beds, a sleeper sofa in the den and a roll-away twin. Perfect for a family or a few guys who just want to fish.

Shell Point is a small, quiet community located in Wakulla County, one of Florida's best-kept secrets and part of Florida's forgotten coast. Besides offering the best flats fishing anywhere, it's ideal for sightseeing and photography. Wakulla Springs State Park, one of the largest fresh water springs in the world, is only 10 minutes away. Wakulla Springs was the site for filming the early Tarzan movies, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Airport 77. From the river boat and glass bottom boat tours, you can see alligators, many species of water fowl, fish, turtles, snakes, and deer, in and among the crystal clear waters emerging from the depth of the springs. They also have a swimming area, with a diving platform. The St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge (10 minutes away), which features the St. Marks Lighthouse, offers a habitat for all kinds of Florida wildlife. (Bald eagles have been spotted here and at Spring Creek - so keep your eyes peeled!) For a close-up, hands-on examination of marine life, you can check out the Gulf Specimen Marine Lab in Panacea, which is 20 minutes away. Also, the Tallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science is about 30 minutes away, and offers a look at Florida's wildlife in a natural setting.

There are other recreational interests in the immediate area. For the golfer, Wildwood Country Club is a beautiful public golf course located on Hwy. 98 in Medart (less than 10 minute drive). For the tennis buff, there are 6 lighted tennis courts across the street (from the golf course) at Wakulla High School. For the fisherman, the fishing is as good as it gets and there is an assortment of USCG licensed captains that will be more than willing to book a charter and take you out into the bay for a fishing experience that you will never forget. Shell Point is a great place for windsurfing and hosts several Regattas each year. For the beach enthusiast, nearby beaches include St. Joseph's Peninsula State Park and St. George's Island, which are regularly voted into the top ten beaches in the world (an hour to an hour and a half drive). Shell Point Beach is about a half block from "Dock of the Bay". It is a very, very small beach located on the bay, which means that the only waves that you will see will be on a very windy day. It doesn't compare to the other two beaches mentioned earlier, but it is very convenient and a great place to kick back and enjoy the abundant wildlife in and surrounding the bay, along with breathtaking sunsets. For those who enjoy great seafood, Angelo's in Panacea (20 minutes away) is one of the finest renowned seafood restaurants anywhere - located right on the water. Nearby Spring Creek Restaurant (less than 10 minutes away) also boasts delicious seafood, including soft shell crab, along with a casual down-home atmosphere. If you decide to rent with us, we will send you a list of all of the nearby restaurants, along with our personal rating on each one.

Shell Point is located between St. Marks and Panacea, and is only 30 miles south of Tallahassee (Florida's capital). Tallahassee has all of the conveniences of a big city - malls, restaurants, museums, parks, airport - and is well known for being the home of Florida State University (FSU) and Florida A&M University (FAMU). If you are interested in fishing (trout, Spanish mackerel, redfish, tarpon, cobia, flounder, grouper, black bass ... it's saltwater fishing, so the list goes on), boating, or ... if you just want to escape to a relaxing, laid back paradise; yet, be able to venture into the city on a whim, this is the perfect location for you.

Sorry, we do not accept renters under the age of 25.

Excellent Place - Construction was a downer

Sakina (Land O'Lakes, FL)
Review submitted: May 10, 2011   Date of arrival: April 29, 2011

Shell Point (& Dock of the Bay) was an excellent place for a great vacation at a great time of year. The weather was absolutely fabulous & the beach was mostly quite, even with the "Regada" going on. We came up to see our Daughter graduate from FSU and then spend some family time together. Shell Point is just far enough from the busy city areas, but yet close enough to enjoy trips to local hot spots (like Wakulla Springs & lighthouses) & Tallahassee. This house was an excellent place to stay with nice rooms, plenty of linens and even beach towels (most places don't provide those). The house was well kept & very clean. A car is important as it's a bit of a drive to find a grocery store & places to eat. The only down side to our vacation was the construction work being done by Public Works. We had to boil water for a couple days & we didn't get much of a chance to sleep in due to heavy construction equipment & noise "very early" each morning. The property owner was great at planning ahead for the construction and had bottled water on hand for those days when we needed it.

Great Place

Bert (Toronto, Ohio)
Review submitted: May 2, 2011   Date of arrival: January 17, 2011

This is our first time we drove to Florida to escape the Ohio snow. We loved the green palm trees and abundance of birds and our vacation rental. The door was unlocked and we felt at home as soon as we went in. The rooms were comfortable, the master bath and even the closets were very roomy.

We walked to the beach almost every morning and found different shells and a star fish washed up. With high and low tide it was never boring. Most Saturday’s a traveling chef brought awesome food at reasonable prices. Wakulla springs is incredible with the boat ride we saw manatees the first time we went and big Joe the big alligator and his wife the second time we went, that place is fantastic. Posey’s restaurant has everything and it’s all very very good. I give Dock of the Bay five stars. We called Deb when the microwave died and she had another one there in about twenty minutes. Beautiful, peaceful and interesting place. We had a wonderful six weeks vacation.

Just Another Day in Paradise

Remo (Harpers Ferry, Ia., USA)
Review submitted: April 26, 2011   Date of arrival: March 1, 2011

Never in our wildrest dreams could a place be so perfect. From the instant we opened the front door until the day that we closed it to return home, our experience at "Dock of the Bay" was everything we had hoped. Deb and Jerry know how to please their guests to the point that "we can't wait to get back next winter"! I was so fortunate to find them online, never dreaming our vacation would be so perfect right down to the lovely linens and heavenly beds, to a fully equipped kitchen - everything was there at our disposal including golf clubs to a fish cleaning station right on the boat dock. Everything was so tastefully decorated and folks were friendly everywhere we went. Taking our boat was one of the smartest things we ever did. Rod couldn't wait everyday to get out in the beautiful bay and hope for a great catch or not. We would spend many an evening out in the bay watching some of the most incredible sunsets. This is heaven folks, quiet, beautiful, no traffic and the place to be for one of the most relaxing vacations ever. Don't wait too long to make your reservations. Hats off to Deb, she is the Queen of the Rental Industry. Your every wish is her command. A most grateful couple, Linda and Rod
