traveler reviews for this mystic house rental

Terrific family getaway

Review submitted: September 7, 2008   Date of arrival: August 22, 2008

We rented out this home with little notice - the cheerful owners hustled to get it cleaned on unexpectedly short order. It is beautiful, decorated charmingly, and spacious, with a wide variety of gathering places for different groupings of people to gather, talk, play, and more. Some beds were firmer than others. Old-fashioned games (and newer ones) kept the little ones occupied, as did picking vegetables in the garden. There's a terrific public playground a short walk away, and just walking the houses in the neighborhood is pleasant. A huge, varied reading supply is available throughout the house, as well. The kitchen is extremely well stocked, and we prepared all our meals (for 9) in it without difficult, serving and eating them in the dining room. The gardens and grounds were quite enchanting in late August. It is a five minute walk to historic Mystic, with beautiful views, shops, restaurants, and boats.

Recommended for: age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, sight seeing, tourists without a car

Owners response: It is such a pleasure to know that our guests have enjoyed our home and wonderful town. We feel it is a special place that is particularly suitable to multi-generational family groups as there is much of interest withing walking distance for many ages. It is particularly heartening to arrive back to a home as clean as we left it with the feeling it was appreciated as a special retreat. Thank you!

Better than a home away from home.

Review submitted: June 8, 2013   Date of arrival: May 30, 2013

Twelve of us showed up on May 30 to celebrate 2 birthdays and a wedding anniversary. I knew it was the right place to be for our mini-vacation when I saw the well kept gardens. The inside of the house was well kept and very clean. Hope we left it as clean as we found it and maybe some extra items in the refrigerator for the next visitors. Close to Mystic Seaport and the Mystic Aquarium. Thoroughly enjoyable stay! I overheard several of the group say... 'We have to do this again!'

Recommended for: age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway

Owners response: Please visit again! You are all wonderful, thoughtful guests and we are glad that we could provide a home and garden for you to gather and celebrate. It is always appreciated to return and find our home as clean as when we left, knowing that it was filled with stories, games and creating new memories. The extra food items not a bother and always put to good use. You did pick a lovely time for the garden which is a work in progress and of interest in all seasons, the birds especially enjoying the berries well into the winter. We look forward to welcoming you again.

Guestbook Comment

Review submitted: August 1, 2003   Date of arrival: August 1, 2003

We had such a wonderful Christmas holiday at your Captain's home. When you asked for comments for the guestbook we couldn't resist adding ours. Everything was more than expected. The Christmas tree, garlands & festive decorations ready for our own stockings. Then, the timely snow fell silently. Some thought the ghost of the captain was in charge in the attic. Our sunny walks in the snow from the Mystic Seaport Museum, through the festive village & up the hill to your home brought back warm memories of past family gatherings. Thank you for sharing your lovely, peaceful home with us at this special time of year.
