activities and attractions in Cape San Blas Gulf Coast North

Cape San Blas is exquisite--remote, serene yet plenty to do. Dr.
Beach rated our beach #1 in USA in 2002--even including Hawaii! Ice
cream/sandwich shop within walking distance. Bike, boat rental,
horse rental, fishing charters. State park entrance nearby. On
Cape, in Port St. Joe shops and restaurants.
*near the shops and restaurants of Apalachicola
*near the world-famous Indian Pass Raw Bar
*one hour south of Panama City

Update on area
The Indian Pass Raw Bar has re-opened, but it looks very
different from photos. Could it have gone....upscale? Oh dear! Can't
wait to go see.
On the Cape, the store "The Entrance" is closed, so
for pontoon rentals, try Seahorse at Port St. Joe Marina (good
restaurant, too). The Scallop Cove BP station on the Cape has kayak and canoe
rentals--our whole family really loves to kayak in the Bay. Also has chair rentals, fishing
equipments.
The ice cream store Coneheads, within walking distance of the
house, serves lunches.
The Pig (Piggly Wiggly) in Port St. Joe is still the best place
for groceries. The Trading Post on the Cape has a limited supply of
groceries.
Eating out: we still like Sisters in town for lunch, the
Coastal restaurant in town for fancy dinner, Loggerhead Grill on the
Cape itself is good, the marina restaurant for a great view and good
food. We really enjoyed the Mexican restaurant on Reid St.
Also in Apalach, The Owl and Boss Oyster. Many more to choose from.
And of course, Toucan's up in Mexico Beach.
Oysters? Not my cup of tea, but the oyster lovers rave about
Regan's (up toward Mexico Beach), and of course, world
famous Indian Pass Raw Bar (no kidding, my brother up in Manhattan
read about it in the New York Times).
Shopping? I love Portside Trading Co. and Interiors Etc. on
Reid Ave. in Port St. JOe. Cute new shops on Reid Ave--Persnickety is one. Love love the book store.
Apalach has many shops. Grady Market is a
favorite, and
they have a good selection of "StoryPeople" like you'll see in the
king bedroom on the second floor.
You can rent movies on the Cape or in town. Dixie Theatre in
Apalach sometimes has plays, sometimes movies.
Fishing charters? Plenty of them. Our fisherpeople (that
doesn't include me) like Capt. Bobby Johnson.
Need to supplement the catch? The Pig has really good fresh
local seafood, and we also just adore St. Patrick's in Port St. Joe.
Great seafood and very helpful.
Sunsets? Yes, our beach faces west, so you'll experience the
most beautiful sunsets, without jugglers, cruise ships, and
thousands of people blocking your view.
Shells? We're not famous for them, but we usually find some
beauties. The house has books on shells, Florida birds, Audubon
guide, etc.
We're hoping someone goes over to St. Vincent Island and
writes us about it. We've never made it yet but we really want to.
And we've love to hear from you if you go.
The grounds are beautifully kept. Long time employee Isaiah
tried camellia bushes by the boardwalk at the pool, didn't thrive,
so now he's got red oleanders. That's also the shrub along the fence
between Seacliffs and Barrier Dunes. You'll see that our dunes are
healthy, even though a wedge was lost to Hurricane Ivan, but we have
strong seagrasses and beach morning glory, so they look good.
If you're there during turtle egg season, you may see the
local volunteers who walk the beach each morning, looking for new
nests. They net the site and secure it with dated stakes. So
interesting. The "turtle lady" sometimes drives by, and we heard
that kids used to be able to ride with her. Don't know, we'll try to
find out.
Wreck dives? We've got them. We don't scuba, so again, let us
know if you go on a wreck dive (see the marina). We snorkel, and
there's a boat wreck just a couple of feet below the water on the
bay side where lovely fish hang out.
We always splurge and rent a pontoon boat and explore the Bay.
We often have three generations onboard, making memories (and there
are bathrooms at Eagle Harbor and at the Marina.....)
We wish you a happy memory-making visit.

We hear from guests who fall in love with the Cape as we did.
Couples, children, teens, reunions. It's an annual tradition for
many.

And for seniors, empty nesters: after kids are back in school--
couples, friend groups, book clubs--it's an ideal, affordable
gathering spot.Just think--four bedrooms for $1460/week in the
fall!
