One of many reasons you're probably attracted to Surfside Beach is that there are no high rise buildings to detract from the pleasant beach village atmosphere. However, not many of the condo buildings have elevators. South Shores II is a great small complex that has an elevator, and carts to making unloading so much easier. Better yet, this beautifully redecorated condo is on the first floor, just a few steps up, if you don't like waiting for elevators.

Enjoy a real beach vacation feeling from the spacious first floor balcony. Relax inside the comfortably furnished living room after full vacation days, take in some TV on the large flat screen from two recliners and a large sofa. The kitchen has new granite countertops on lots of preparation space, with a full complement of pots, pans, appliances and utensils.

The large bathroom has a long, wide vanity with a new granite countertop and two sinks. The shower is in a separate room and has a new enclosure, faucet and shower head. Both bedrooms access the bathroom from a private hallway. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and a flat screen TV. The second bedroom has twin beds.

South Shores II has a full size swimming pool just off the beach. There are plenty of lounge chairs, it won't be crowded with only 16 units in the complex. If you like to barbecue, there are two grills near the pool, and a poolside picnic table. There are two parking places per condo at South Shores II. The soft warm sand of Surfside Beach is a short stroll from the pool deck.

Surfside Beach is perfect for a family vacation, away from the traffic and crowds, but still a short drive to the wide variety of attractions, shopping, dining and entertainment the Grand Strand has to offer. Luxury shopping and dining are a few minutes north in the Market Commons area. Just a short drive north are all the attractions, dining, shopping and nightlife of Myrtle Beach; Broadway at the Beach, Coastal Grand shopping center, the Myrtle Beach boardwalk, amusement parks, and one of the world's largest Ferris wheels. For a unique cultural experience, Brookgreen Gardens displays one of the world's largest collections of sculpture by American artists in a lush outdoor setting, along with a zoo and butterfly garden, it's just a few minutes south.

The unit is ocean front and clean. There were a bit too many knick knacks and breakable items around for me to feel comfortable with the kids (age 8/9 and very responsible). I felt I was on watch at all time to not break something. The decor is dated, and the master bed is small and noisy. The units are not very sound proof, we could hear the upstairs neighbors' young child running the halls at 6am and the vacuum sounds like a tornado. Also they were working on the roof while there over spring break! It was not a nice awakening to hear the BOOM of shingles falling 3 stories into a metal trailer at 9am. So much for any sleep on vacation. Overall, the place was average and the noises and overdecoration made it hard to actually relax. I won't be coming back to this unit, though the beach was nice and the view good.

Most vacation rental properties are owned by individual families, who decorate them to their personal taste. The 24 photos above clearly present all the décor in the property, they were taken very recently, nothing has been changed or added since. The owners have invested several thousand dollars in the last year, on granite countertops, upgraded shower enclosure, appliances, faucets, etc. It is definitely updated, even though not to your taste. Thank you for keeping your children from breaking anything, sorry for the inconvenience. If the weather had been better, everyone could have enjoyed being outdoors more.

Many vacationers find the smaller wood frame buildings more charming and convenient, less crowded. The downside is that you are more likely to hear your neighbors, especially when you choose other than the top floor. You may want to choose a condo in a poured concrete structure next time, they’re definitely quieter.

The homeowners association ordered the roof repair in time for work to be completed by mid March. They are unfortunately at the mercy of the contractor, and have no control over the exact dates that the work is done. We had no knowledge that the work was planned. We are sorry for the disturbance, but it’s obviously beyond our control. Maintenance has to be done sometime. One of the downsides of vacationing during the off season is that work can be under way, along with disappointing weather. That’s probably why a July week costs 50% more than an April week.
