Unusual craftsmanship abounds throughout this historical Ocean Point home. This true one of a kind cabin was erected in the late 1920's by local builders hand selecting smooth hewn logs taken from nearby woods originally inhabited by Penobscot Indians. activities and attractions in Boothbay Harbor Maine

Down East magazine listed Boothbay Harbor as one of Maine's 10 prettiest villages. In fact a few of the other prettiest villages are within a short drive from your base at Ocean Point. Boothbay Harbor received the accolades to position it in second place for the Prettiest Village in Maine.

"A laid-back village far from busy Route 1, Boothbay Harbor features authentic charm, a working waterfront, drop-dead natural beauty, and a great mix of restaurants, cultural events, and artisans. It's surrounded by islands and lighthouses, while the village itself shines, thanks to brick sidewalks, handsome hand-painted signs, and a gentle hilly terrain." - Susie Saudek of Capitol Island, Maine.

Follow along the path of Charles Kuralt's America as you explore one of his most beloved areas and peninsulas in the United States. In his 1995 book, Charles Kuralt wrote about his 12 favorite places in America. In the August chapter, he wrote about Boothbay Harbor. Charles Kuralt went on to describe that, "then, with no plan, I'd go out into the day, on foot down to the docks, or by car along the coast, happy just to be there. Each day I'd feel a little more of Maine soaking into my bones." During your visit also make sure to take in a dinner at Brown's Wharf, one of his favorite local spots. Brown's Wharf entrance is marked by the iconic yellow lobsterman.

As you drive from Ocean Point stop in nearby East Boothbay where Hodgdon Yachts hails as home to where world renowned boats have been built for nearly two centuries. Make a stop at the new Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences. Take a short drive to Linekin Preserve which boasts close to three miles of hiking trails, ten minutes to festive and busy Boothbay Harbor for a variety of dining choices, shopping, local bookstore, farmers' market, the library, numerous art galleries. Plan to attend one of the regular summer concert series on the library lawn, or hop aboard one of the many excursion boats for an informative trip to learn more about the region.

Boothbay Harbor attracted the likes of John Fitzgerald Kennedy; sit in the pew where he sat on the occasion of his attending Mass at our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and listen to the church bells toll. Rumor has it ~ the bells, badly in need of repair, were replaced by the late Jimmy Dean of sausage fame who used to enjoy listening to them chime throughout the summer as he lounged on his yacht nearby. Over the years the Region has made its debut on the movie screen with the filming of Carousel, and has played host to Calvin Klein, Robert Plant, Mark Knopfler, James Cagney, Gene Tunney and been home in the summer to the Wicked Witch of the West, Margaret Hamilton. In the summer the harbor is always welcoming yachts from around the world.

Go on to discover the amazing and award winning Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Boothbay Region Land Trust, Cap'n Fish's Boat Tours, explore Monhegan Island, visit the Farnsworth Museum, Boothbay Railway Village, Boothbay Playhouse, The Opera House at Boothbay Harbor, Maine State Aquarium, Deep Sea Fishing charters, kayaking, Burnt Island Lighthouse tours; visit Pemaquid Peninsula Region, enjoy a quick drive over to Camden and Rockland, or on a foggy day consider destination shopping in nearby Freeport home to various outlets and the flagship L.L.Bean company. Check out Edgecomb Potters, Sheepscot River Pottery, jewelry galleries + the various antique selections interspersed around the Route 1 region.

Not sure where to begin? As part of our Summer Experience Service our concierge is more than happy to help you plan your itinerary based around your budget, time frame, and interests to ensure you get the most from your time spent in this beautiful and abundant region.
