activities and attractions in Galveston Texas
Beach area at end of 10th street is called Poretto Beach. You can fish, swim, BBQ, it is just another smaller beach area, well maintained with umbrella and lawn chair service. It is really nice just to sit under the umbrella with the cool shore breeze and watch the kids and grown ups play and the birds... anyway that is what I love to do to de-stress!
Also, walking distance to Stewart Beach (betweem 7th & 2nd Street)! No charge since you can walk there! If you drive there in your car it is $8. per car.Stewart Beach is one of Galveston's premier family beach parks. The park features umbrella and chair rentals, volleyball courts, an outdoor pavilion with an elevator, snack bar, souvenir shop, restrooms and showers. Lifeguards staffed on this beach from Easter weekend to mid September. Security is also present during this time. “Family Beach” environment where alcohol is not allowed. Also Stewart Beach has a Community Room for company parties, wedding receptions, family reunions, and other special events. Outside catering is permitted. ( I have the contact information if you are interested)
Also, just a couple of streets down, drive on free ride! Take a Free Ferry Ride back and forth from Crystal Beach and watch the dolphins jump and play in the channel. If you do not want to wait in line in your car, just park up front in the free parking and walk on. It is a 10 minute ride there and back and there is a top deck up high that does have air conditioning.
The Strand is always a great retreat from the beach! Eat at a restaraunt there in the port and watch the cruise and other ships go in and out.
Gaidos is open, it is the oldest retauraunt in Galveston, and on the Seawall.
Rainforest cafe is near 61st with the volcano erupts nightly every 30 minutes.
Only 10 blocks down is the NEW PLEASURE PIER OPENING BY MAY 28, 2012 Carnival on a pier over the Ocean!
Fishing available from the rock jetties (free) and Fishing Piers along the Seawall (charge?)
One of mine and visitors alike is to rent a bycicle, (they are all along the seawall) and ride up and down the Sea Wall which has gorgeous ocean views and people watching!
ALSO TO DO!
Schlitterbahn Waterpark
IMAX Theater at Moody Gardens
Moody Gardens
The Strand Historical District
Galveston Island Duck Tours
Miniature golf and Slingshot
