After 6 PM the beach can be used for beach volleyball. A lifeguard is present from 11 AM to 6 PM daily Swimming is not permitted when the lifeguard is absent However, swimming at cottage at your own risk. Admittance Horseshoe Lake is a private community. People come from California, England, Texas, PA.,Canada to NY,Mass to stay here each year. While staying at the lake you must abide by the lake rules. Most of the rules are just common curtosy and common sense items, including not distrubbing other cottage owners or rowdy behavior.renters can only use the lake facilities during the rental period days. Directions From thuway RT90 from Buffalo get off at the batavia exit 48 left onto Oak street go to main street turn left on to Rt 33. Turn left go 3 to 4 miles and turn right on horseshoe lake road. then follow directions below onto east street. There are quickier back roads but this is probably the simplest plus you will get to see a little of Batavia. Most shopping in batavia is off main street take a right off of Oak Street instead of a left to go the cottage Kmart, walmart, applebees, Bjs, Home Depot, Value, Lowe's being built, Tops now Martins Super market etc From new york city albany and rochester get off Leroy exit take rt 490 to bergin exit 2 to 3 minutes take a left towards Batavia on Rt 33 go approximately 12 minutes to horseshoe lake road a left hand turn if you see a mobil station turn around half mile back you past it then go to east street and take a right follow East street till end approx 1to 2 minutes From Buffalo Airport Take rt 90 Thruway to Batavia exit follow directions above, or scenic drive through small towns turn left onto Route 33 drive for 29 miles and then turn right on the Horseshoe Lake Road. The lake will be seen on your right side. From Batavia proceed east on Route 33 Main Street for 3 miles then turn right on the Horseshoe Lake Road Private planes can land at the Batavia Airport just a few minutes from the Lake Sorry No handicap access or heart patients - have to walk down stairs to get to cottage on the lake. Pontillos Pizza and Pasta is a world famous restaurant on East Main St in Batavia 80 yrs, Applebees Pokadot hot dog stand many other restraunts with good food 25 minutes to Rochester or 30 minutes to Buffalo that has every restraunt chain e g Outback Olive Garen Mexican Malls Red lobster etc Local theaters The Batavia Mall I and II and Cinema I and II are in Batavia 10 minutes away, Buffalo 25- 40 min Niagara Falls 60min and Rochester all have muliplexs, 20-35 min Silver lake old fashion drive in Nearby attractions There are seven golf courses close to the Lake Carter s Sweetland Pines is an attractive 9 hole course on the Sweetland Road Terry Hills is a large 27 hole course that is open to the public It also has minutature golf Batavia Country Club is another large public course on the Byron Town line Road Just up the Horseshoe Lake Road is the Stafford Country Club a lovely old private course on Route 237 The Bethany Hills Course in East Bethany the Quiet Times Golf Course in Attica and the Byrncliff Resort and Conference Center on Route 20 A There are several outdoor recreation areas for adults and children within a few minutes of the Lake The Gravel Pit on Route 5 offers race car driving bumper cars arcade driving range and miniature golf Terry Hills also offers, and miniature golf Many week ends have local church fire town fairs In Darien is the Darien Lake famous Six Flags Theme Park and Camping Resort This facility offers the largest Ferris wheel in the United States and the largest roller coaster in Western New York In addition, weekend bands and celebrities regularly perform there The Genesee Community College is a 2 mile good walk or bicycle ride The College campus also has many sport fields and tennis courts Get an I love New York tour giude and see what peaks your interest (usually copy @ cottage or at Thruway rest information booths at rest areas) For the Advid Fisherman One of the best fishing lakes in the county offering the skilled fisherman many species of fresh water fish Horseshoe Lake Fish Bluegill Channel Catfish Largemouth Bass Northern Pike Rainbow Trout Rock Bass Smallmouth Bass Walleye Yellow Perch Horseshoe Lake Trophy Case Horseshoe Lake is the home of lunker Large Mouth Bass and trophy Northern Pike Other fish such as smallmouth bass perch calico bass catfish bluegill and red ear give you a mixed bag of excellent fishing Horseshoe Lake is fed by natural springs and the waters of Bigelow creek If you are a bass fisherman you will be in Heaven Spring begins with the spawn which gets under way in early May and usually runs through mid June. The summer months June thru August are the time to move out to the stumps where most post spawn fish migrate Fishing in ten to twenty feet of water can produce bass that can break your arm.
