cabin rental amenities

You can easily find fancier cabins but we challenge you to find a more beautiful setting
within God's creation.

A lovely deck commands one of the best views on Pend d’Oreille.
There is no phone or TV to disturb your tranquility.

Off grid electricity is supplied by hydro electric and solar generation, so there's no microwave or A/C. Idaho summer nights are usually cool, but a fan is provided for the occasional warm one. The refrigerator, range, oven, furnace, and on-demand water heater all run on propane, and there is a wood stove for cozy winter nights.

A double bed in the sleeping loft is accessed by a poleladder that requires a degree of agility but the two couches downstairs have been used for sleeping in a pinch.

The small size of this 16x24 cabin and the limited privacy of its restroom facilities makes it most appropriate for married couples in need of time away from the stress of kids or careers.

If your kids are so well behaved that you don't need time away from them, toss in their sleeping bags and bring them along for an extra $15 kid/night.

activities and attractions in Sandpoint Idaho

Talache beach is a 2.5 mile drive.

Sandpoint, with all its shops and restaurants is only a 15 miles distant; and Schweitzer Ski Resort another 10 miles past that.

If it is peace and quiet you seek however, all the action (or lack of it) is right here. Miles of forest road and nature trails fan out from the cabin along the Pine breaks and through fern choked canyons to groves of giant cedars. A footpath winds down past a 100 foot waterfall to a cliff rimmed bay where shore fishermen have hooked Kamloops trout in the deep waters of Lake Pend d’Oreille.

We are surrounded by Forest Service land where hiking, biking, and ski routes lead to panoramic views of North Idaho from Grouse Mountain.

A picnic shelter and fire pit are available for your enjoyment along with a gas
grill if it is too dry for a camp fire.

Also, you are welcome to join us on Saturday nights when families from our church gather for softball and soccer, all at your own risk of course and with modesty of dress and speech.

If you want a little less luxury and a lot more natural beauty this could be for you.

Castle Rock is heavenly!

Review submitted: August 5, 2011   Date of arrival: July 23, 2011

Two thumbs up! We'd heard the view was "kinda nice" but this was unreal! And not just from one lovely side...but from two! What a treat to arrive and find everything we needed to start cooking and relaxing. Quiet, peaceful and rustic. No Wi-fi or TV but after a day, we didn't miss it (much). Well worth the long and winding drive to find it. Signs would help a lot, especially for people arriving at night. Our directions were a bit hazy, but we were OK once we realized they began from the town of Sagle and Sagle Rd. We kept looking for Talache Road from the highway! A no-slip bathmat would be good too, for clumsy folks like us. We really appreciated the how-to binder re: water systems etc. Loved the resident hummingbirds and within minutes of cleaning and filling their feeder, we had 3 pr buzzing around. This has to be the best bargain in the Sandpoint area. No better view at 10x the price. A great jumping off point for Pend Oreille fun. We will rank Castle Rock as the most memorable holiday rental property we've visited in 20 years. A+. Thanks Lynn!

Castle Rock Cabin

Review submitted: June 21, 2010   Date of arrival: June 16, 2010

Thank you for sharing this breathtaking haven. I can't begin to articulate how beautiful the view is to me. I found myself being extraordinarily relaxed during my stay in one place and not doing anything, but I was completely relaxed and at ease. I appreciate the cabin indeed, with the homey arrangements; I love the originality. I found that there was everything I could have ever wanted here. Thank you as well for such thoughtful arrangements from the bare neccessities to the decorations. I hope to come again.
