Kingfisher Cottage in Leicestershire

Kingfisher Cottage is a charming 100 year old home which has recently
been "Americanized" while still maintaining its "old world"
atmosphere. It is situated right on the Grand Union Canal so that you
can sit and relax in the garden or the conservatory and watch the
canal boats go by or drop in a fishing line and perhaps snag dinner!

The Navigation Inn, the nearest pub -- just a 29 1/2 second walk away
-- is also on the canal, providing a wonderful venue to meet and
interact with resident villagers and get a taste of local color. As
our guests we would see to it that those introductions were arranged.

Just over the hump-backed bridge, the beyond the Navigation, boats
are
for hire -- from row boats to paddle boats to canal boats. Along the
canal is a towpath providing many hours of walking in beautiful
pastoral settings. Five minutes from the cottage is one of the deeper
locks at ten feet. The lock is all hand operated and it's fascinating
to watch the boats pass through.

Very close to the lock is one of the best Indian restaurants we've
tried. There are five to six pubs in the village, as well as a hotel,
also serving meals. One in particular serves a fabulous full-course
Sunday Dinner (lunch) for a fixed price of less than $7.50. There are
also several take-aways.

Barrow is located in the middle of fox hunt country and if you are a
rider not only is horseback riding available but during the season
joining a hunt is also possible. Golf and fishing are avidly endorsed
by many of the locals and they would be happy to set you in the right
direction.
