vacation rental description

Rusticate in style! Enjoy a carefree and relaxing Maine vacation at Fox Hollow Farm. This comfortably elegant antique farmhouse is fully equipped with all modern conveniences--cable, wi-fi, full country kitchen--plus games and books for cozy evenings, and much more. The decor is elegant, cheerful and comfortable. Surrounded by woods and fruit trees with tidal views of Raccoon Cove and the mountains of Acadia National Park, the house is serene and secluded, yet it’s perfectly situated for exploring...it's a short walk or bike ride down a quiet country road to sandy beaches and a local swimming hole; you can explore the shoreline and islands of Frenchman’s Bay by kayak or sailboat; and Acadia National Park is under a half-hour away. Visit the Farm when you're ready to slow down and enjoy a perfect vacation in Down East Maine.

house rental amenities

Kitchen
With bench seats around the kitchen table and a moose chandelier,
exposed antique wooden beams along with views of Raccoon
Cove and Acadia's Sargeant Mountain, this room is a terrific family hangout.
This gourmet country kitchen features coffee and espresso maker,
toaster, blender, waffle maker, juicer, ice cream maker, and a variety
of pots, pans and utensils, including lobster pot and roasting pans.
Dishwasher, microwave, gas stove and brand new refrigerator.
Full bathroom with tub/shower off the kitchen.

Sunroom
The story goes that this room was originally the General Store for the
area in the late 1700s; the shelves today display vintage glassware,
bottles, and assorted knicknacks. The sunroom is a bright and cheerful
room to curl up with a book in the comfy wicker chair, sort your
seashells, or whatever else inspires you. You'll also find assorted
outdoor games here: croquet, bocce ball, and horseshoes to take out on
the lawn. The adjacent mudroom has a washer/dryer, ironing board, and
iron.

Living areas
The living room, den, and dining room are off the kitchen. Each room
is painted a different color. Vintage furniture includes incredibly
comfy couches, a large desk, and seating for up to six. Reliable, fast
wireless internet, new large-screen TV, radio/CD player, DVD/video player,
a selection of books and board games for cozy days and evenings.
Phone with message machine.

Upstairs
The Master Bedroom has a queen bed and a view to the woods; the Green
Room has a full bed and a view toward Sargeant Mountain; the Sailors'
Room has two twin beds and a similar view. Quality linens and towels
all provided. Bathroom with stall shower upstairs. Hairdryer, crib,
and highchair available.

Outside
A front porch under the lilacs provides a serene spot to relax in one of the Adirondack chairs and take in the amazing view. The new back patio is a delightful location for evening gatherings and barbecues. The farmhouse is on two+ acres surrounded by open grass and a big red barn, without a neighbor in sight. A colorful, fragrant perennial garden attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. The wildlife here is phenomenal: you’re likely to spot eagles and osprey soaring overhead, and a variety of warblers in the woods. We’ve also seen moose and foxes on the property. Come dusk, you may hear the drumming of a grouse or the ethereal song of a thrush. Fireflies and crickets provide lively evening entertainment. And if you’re here in the fall, the autumn foliage is spectacular. Outdoor amenities also include a picnic table, a charcoal barbecue, kayaks, bicycles, and beach chairs, coolers, and clamming equipment you can take to the nearby beaches.

activities and attractions in Acadia Maine

Fox Hollow Farm is in Lamoine, a stone's throw from Acadia National
Park. It's an area just as beautiful, but with fewer people. The area
is ideal for hiking, kayaking, climbing, sailing, birding, fishing,
beachcombing, moose-watching--you name it. Lamoine Beach is one of
very few sandy beaches in the area, and one of the locals' best-kept
secrets: good swimming, warm(er) water, picnic tables and barbecues, a
boat launch and good musselling--against the picturesque backdrop of
Mt. Desert and the Porcupine Islands.

And there are other adventures: explore the little villages on Mt Desert
Island or up and down the coast--take a drive down through Blue Hill
and Penobscot to Deer Isle, or up to Schoodic and the Canadian border
to the east. There are antique stores, flea markets, farmers' markets,
and art galleries to discover (a favorite local character is Wild
Mountain Man Ray Murphy, who sculpts with a chainsaw). Gourmet
restaurants, brewpubs, country diners (and of course lobster shacks)
all offer up delicious local fare. Right down the road you can visit
the goats at Seal Cove Farm, renowned for their goat cheese. Live
local music shows and dances are held just about every weekend in the
summer, along with fairs and festivals showcasing locally grown
produce, crafts, and wares.

At the house we keep a guest book with suggestions for activities,
trips, restaurants, etc., along with a number of guidebooks, maps, and
brochures.

traveler reviews for this acadia house rental

Great location for Maine parks

Review submitted: August 17, 2010   Date of arrival: August 7, 2010

My family had a terrific time staying so clse to Acadia National Park. We visited Acadia as well as other nearby state and local parks. The house had bikes and kayaks to use so we were out and active each day. My children could play in the front yard and bike ride on the quiet street. The house was clean, beautifully furnished, and a comfortable place to relax each evening. The property is well described in the listing and I would definitely return. I would recommend this house to anyone who wants both convenience to Acadia and comfort well beyond a hotel room. This was ideal for my family.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, sight seeing
