Guest comment, 2006.
“All of us came home with the most wonderful memories of "the best
family vacation yet" (and we've been doing it for more than 15
years!).The house and the scenery were wonderful...We loved the
small nearby communities...people were incredibly friendly and
helpful. The lighthouses (especially Walton, thanks to Gloria’s
information) were so interesting. Adventures on the beach at
different tide times was so unusual and fascinating. All of it was
so special. And thanks so much for supplying the ping-pong
table...we did have quite a tournament where we all participated.
The croquet, badminton and the wonderful space for our kite flying
added to our enjoyment. Also, we all thoroughly enjoyed both the
fossil walk at Rainey Cove and the very spectacular tidal bore
rafting experience. Three generations of the C. Family, Texas,
California and Massachusetts.
Shore Haven House by the Sea
Shore Haven offers the opportunity for the vacation of a lifetime,
absorb the sites and sounds of the Atlantic ocean and the beach.
It's a peaceful private sanctuary on the Atlantic ocean, with all
modern conveniences, breathtaking views, a private beachfront where
you can swim in the mellow salt water, explore tidal pools, surround
yourself with the experience of the ocean sounds of surf, walk for
miles on the sculpted sand beach, or enjoy pastoral fields, and
wooded and brookside walkways.
Shore Haven is far from the hustle and bustle of city life; and yet
it's still close to all that the city offers, if you choose.
This custom built, modern house of exceptional quality provides
superb, luxury accommodations for up to 12 people (four bedrooms, 2

bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. The second bedroom (queen) offers a
wonderful view of the water. The bright ground floor of the house

a perfect private space for large groups or a quiet retreat for
reading, relaxing and listening to the roar of the surf.
The location of Shore Haven House by the Sea, the Noel Shore, is
rightly known as the 'undiscovered jewel' of Nova Scotia, the area
offers un-paralleled ocean views, miles of all but deserted beaches,
the awesome spectacle of the world's highest tides and a unique and
traditional experience of Nova Scotia. We are delighted to share this

Basin; walk on the beach for miles in an area famous for fossils;
explore the tidal pools as well as the woodlands and meadows; fish
for sea bass; follow our Trout Pool Brook to the very special place
where it burbles gently across a sandstone shelf and cascades in a
beautiful little waterfall to the sea, watch the abundant wildlife
(including deer- this year one of our does had twins!-, eagles,
quail, pheasants, humming birds, osprey, owls, rabbits, raccoons and
foxes), discover the old Acadian house foundation near Evangeline
Brook.
We are directly on the ocean (Minas Basin), with miles of hard red
sand/pebble beach that can be walked or jogged (or carry your
mountain bike down and ride for miles and miles) and at low tide
there is a captivating vast sweep of sculpted, walk-able tidal
sands. There is private access to the beach along a path to the
shore and down a short flight of stairs (vertical height of 8 or 9
feet). Guests can relax with such activities as long walks on the
beach in an area famous for fossils and rock specimens (including
amethyst crystals), and ocean swimming.
The beach, the sea, the woodlands, Evangeline and Trout Pool Brooks,
the birds and animals and an amazing evening sky offer so many
opportunities for being "re-created" and restored by the beauties of
the sea and nature.
We have a variety of indoor (ping pong and board games) and outdoor

NewportLanding, Sommerville, Noel, and Maintland or the pastoral
beauty in the traditional Mennonite community in West Northfield.
Excellent guided tours, detailing the unique geology and local
folklore are available.
Visitors are welcome at the many local attractions.
A great destination for a bike ride or a short drive, the fully
serviced picnic park with stairs and a viewing platform is available
close by at beautiful Burntcoat Head Park and Interpretation Center,
site of the world's highest recorded tides. The highest, ever tide
was recorded here in 1868 and reached the astounding height of 64.9
feet!
Don't miss the excellent museum located in a restored lighthouse, a
great place to learn more about the world's highest tides and local
history.
Maitland Village, designated Nova Scotia's first Heritage
Conservation District with nearly 50 beautiful 19th century homes is
an historic ship building village and the home of the world's
largest sailing vessel which is chronicled at the Lawrence House
museum. Maitland is also home to Riverview Herbs and its delightful
café as well as an excellent fine dining restaurant. There are other
local museums such as in Selma and at the lighthouse in Walton.
Guests may wish to experience the thrill of the world's highest
tides, "up close and personal", by going rafting on the tidal bore
with the Shubenacadie River Runners in Maitland. Some of the many
other local attractions include a guided fossil and history tour

as "awesome"), the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park with its stunning new
marshland and bird-viewing walk, Mastodon Ridge Museum, a fossil
display and life-size replica of an 89,000 year old mastodon whose
bones were found in this area, golf, eco-tourism and good local

available close by in Maitland. Only 15 minutes away at Walton play
golf all day on a links course by the sea, Minas View Links, for $20

There are good country inn/restaurants and family style restaurants
in the nearby villages. We particularly recommend the food, the
views and the charming ambiance of the Café at Newport Landing,
the Sunday Brunch at the Avon Emporium in Sommerville. There are
also good restaurants in Windsor, the gateway to the Annapolis
Valley, about 45 minutes away. Windsor has other attractions such as
the world famous Mermaid Theatre, Haliburton House, a gorgeous
restored historic house and home of "Sam Slick", a delightful
excursion on the restored Evangeline Express train from Windsor to
Wolfville. At Wolfville, enjoy superb fine dining restaurants and the
bounty of the valley farms at the many farm markets and on the edge
of town Grand Pre and the trail of Evangeline as well as winery

Travel a little further along the Annapolis Valley and enjoy the
vistas of golf courses, orchards, farms, vineyards as well as winery

one is held on Wednesdays at the Avon Emporium and another at Bramber
