Perfect engagement site

Chris and Amy (our Point/St Bernard mix) and I had a fantastic time at the Treehouse. This is absolutely the perfect place for a couple to get engaged in any season. We loved the environment and feel of the cabin, with lots of exposed and unrefined wood. We also loved the entrance stairs and porch; though for some with stability issues, these may be difficult, we really liked them and it was one of the details we enjoyed (and our dog liked them too). We got engaged by the wood-burning stove with our dog in a secluded, peaceful place. I didn't realize until we got there that it was exactly the right place for us to get engaged. We also enjoyed the local town (Saluda) and the next town over, as well as the many hiking spots (the caretakers were really helpful in this respect, and there was also a book of hikes in the cabin). We want to keep coming back every year as our anniversary tradition!

Recommended for: adventure seekers, pet-friendly, romantic getaway

If you want rustic, this is the place

The name of this cabin, Tree House, is "spot on". When you are in the cabin you get the feeling you are in the trees.
When we arrived the cabin had been prepared and was quite clean. The rooms are basic and that is fine for a rustic getaway. If you are looking for 5 star amenities, do not go to this resort.

The grounds were quite nice and I even tried some fishing, though I did not catch anything. Speaking of food, you will definitely want to grab provisions before getting there as there is some distance from shopping. We only ate out once and that was for lunch in Saluda.

There were only 2 issues, I saw. A minor one, the DVD player did not work and I was hoping to catch up on the Lord Of The Rings movies. The only real major issue are the stairs from the driveway. THey are meant to be rustic but unfortunately they are not very safe as the treads are uneven and the distance between steps varies. These should be fixed promptly - safety trumps rustic.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, girls getaway, pet-friendly, romantic getaway

Owners response: We were not aware that the DVD player wasn't working, definitely if guests had called we would have replaced it, our caretakers are on site with phone numbers in the cabins, and I am always accessible as well, the dvd player has since been replaced. Our recent guests at the Tree House caught a 10-pound catfish – Paul said he was winded by the time he brought it up and called and sent pictures of it he was so excited. I had other guests who emailed recently and said that their arms were sore from fishing all day and catching so many catfish and bluegill.

We are less than 5 minutes to our town's Dollar General which supplies groceries, and two small groceries with basics too, about 7 minutes to many nearby groceries, Bi-Lo, etc, plus 12 minutes to Super Walmart. There are lots of restaurants in the area, with several local and fabulous ones in Saluda itself, Purple Onion is renowned and offers live music Thursday and Saturday nights too, plus Hendersonville is about 15 minutes and offers lots more shopping and restaurants and attractions. But definitely a lot of guests find it cozy to buy groceries and never even leave the Tree House with so many amenities on the property itself.

Our last guests in the Tree House wrote on our Facebook page:
“What a wonderful week's stay in the Tree House. This will definitely be our home away from home. A very special thank you to both Danielle and Craig for making us feel so welcome. April, I'm so glad you and your mother are keeping your father's legacy alive. You can feel his love throughout the entire property. Please keep the existing steps going up to the treehouse. That's the special charm of the place. Oh, and thanks for the great pond. Caught 4 huge catfish. What fun!”

We don't claim to be a 5-star "resort", though we are not exactly "rustic" in amenities - we do have fully equipped kitchens, linens, towels, tv/dvd/satellite (premium) and outdoor hot tubs and gas grills...the Tree House in particular was built with 5 different types of wood from the property and a spacious living area with romantic bedroom, but we don't claim to be anything other than what we are, a great place for families, couples, even singles, looking to get away, relax, and enjoy a beautiful atmosphere. We are fortunate because you can never leave the property there is so much to do here, or you can easily explore the all mountains of Western North Carolina have to offer.
