Historic Oceanfront La Jolla Cove Cottage; Beachfront Luxury in La Jolla

Understated elegance, a quiet refuge, a timeless beauty. These are
comments we often get about our cottage. It is on the Historic La
Jolla walking tour, San Diego Home and Garden tour, and many a
design class "must see" list.
The man who built this cottage, Eden George, in the early 20's was a
devout sea lover. Every room faces the ocean and is cooled by sea
breezes. The sound of waves help you fall asleep. The house sits up
on a bluff with nothing obstructing the view. Every night one can
sit on the private balcony and watch the sunset over the pacific
horizon.
My family bought this house in 1957. It was updated and an adition
was added in 1987. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and a
sofa. Its private bathroom has a whirlpool tub. A den ,connected to
the bedroom ,is a perfect place to read many of the literary
treasures found in the house or surf the net on the wireless system.
The second bedroom has a queen sized bed and full bathroom. A thrid
room has been converted into a bedroom with extra comfortable twin
beds, microfill and feather bed fill, with tv and cable. It is just
short on closet space. A living room and dining room, plus full
modern kitchen, make this place a self contained retreat.
A large private patio is used year round for dining and sunning. An
outdoor shower helps wash off sand from the beach, (right down the
bluff), where one can surf, boogie board, snorkel, or comb the tidal
pools. The famous LaJolla 'seals beach' is a block north.
Restaurants, museums, and shopping are two blocks east.
The cliffs in front of the cottage are known as Whale View Point.
People come from around the world to sit and gaze at the beauty of
the Pacific Ocean at this very spot. Artists work their magic here.
Picnickers with bountiful feasts watch and couples say their vows as
the sun sets over the horizon. The cliffs are truely magical.

The cottage is just as magical as the cliffs. The matriarch and
owner is an active historian and geneolgist. The house reflects
this as it is filled with literary treasures and historical
artifacts. A stay here is not just a bed, but a living lesson and a
tribute to the quiet coastal beginnings of a little sleepy hamlet
known as 'the jewel' or La Jolla.
The motivation for offering this place for rent is to bring in
income that will help in preserving and maintaining this cottage for
generations to come.

One king size bed in master bedroom with private bathroom.A deck
has just been built with sliding glass doors that open the room to
the ocean. It is a great place to enjoy morning coffee and sunset
wine. Also it feels like an additional room where you can read in
the sun or do work on your computer. The second
bedroom has queen size bed.The second bathroom is across the hall.
A small room has been used as the third bedroom. 2 twin beds with
microfill and feather bed covers make the twin beds a wonderful
experience. The room has its own tv with cable.
Den connected to master bedroom can be used as private
office or a room for a crib. The cottage has a living room
with fireplace and a 42" plasma HDTV. A formal dining
room, modern kitchen and private enclosed patio are ready for easy
cooking and dining.
Bedrooms and living room have tv's with cable and DVD
players. Washer and dryer in laundry room.
Boogie boards, lawn chairs, pack and play crib on premises.
Wireless internet extends to the beach outside. Telephone can be
used with unlimited long distance service for continental United
States.
Living room has Bose sound system.
The Ocean is right out the front door. Walk for miles of open
coast line on The Coast Walk in front of the cottage. The house is
up on the cliffs where people come from all over the world to take
in the beauty of the unobstucted views.The picture at the top of
this page shows a view of the beach below the cliff from the
cottage.

Tidal pools are down the cliffs from the house. A small beach to
the right of the house is perfect for swimming and boogie boarding.
Surfing is done right in front of the cottage. Walk a block to the
seal refuge. A short 2 block walk to the village can meet all needs
for specialty dining, shopping, and great book stores. You can
easily survive your stay here without a car.
The water in front of the cottage is a protected underwater
refuge. No boats are allowed making the ocean void of man except for
the surfer, swimmer or diver. During the winter months a quick eye
can be privy to the migration of whale pods.
The grassy cliff invites picnic goers, artists,
coastal walkers,ocean viewers and dog walkers. It is
also a favorite place for weddings.If you are a people watcher this
is a magical place as people from all over the world come to walk
the coast right in front of the cottage enjoying some of the most
beautiful ocean views the Pacific has to offer. And you get a front
row seat, unobserved, but taking it all in. Come be our guest and
see for yourself.
Every family who has stayed with us has told us we have
understated the experience and minnimized the description of the
house and its setting. We have! We would rather have people leave
happy than arrive disappointed!

$3,300 per week June 24,2009; $4,300 June 25 to Sept 2 2009

!0.5% city tax and 200 cleaning fee added to all fees above

We give discounts to military families on active duty. This
includes families coming to visit family members on duty in San
Diego.
