This wonderfully funky, lakeview home is located in the mountains of western North Carolina. Casa Alcoa is 60’s retro in the woods. The comfortable, four-bedroom mountain getaway, tucked into the trees, overlooks beautiful Lake Santeetlah. It’s surrounded by the Smoky Mountains, Snowbird Mountains, and the Nantahala Forest. Lake Santeetlah is like the sapphire jewels found in these mountains. Highway 129 is “Nirvana” for motorcycle enthusiasts. Deals Gap offers 311 turns in eleven miles! The Miata and Porche clubs prefer nearby Cherahala Skyway. This road to nowhere rivals the Blue Ridge Parkway. The home was built in 1965 by an Alcoa Aluminum executive; and the owners have had fun collecting the 60’s retro decor to complement it. Each room has a theme. Elvis, Marlyn, the “Cleaver boys,” and favorite cowboys have their own bedrooms. There is also the “Beatles bathroom” and “dining with Warhol.” Two bedrooms have glass doors opening onto lake view porches. Robbinsville, NC, just five minutes away, provides a grocery store, fresh vegetable market, and a few restaurants. Robbinsville was featured as a location in the movie “Nell” with Jodi Foster. Our Graham County rescue squad had 15 minutes of fame in “The Fugitive” with Harrison Ford. That’s the Cheoah Dam Dr. Kimball jumps from. For culture, head 90 minutes east to Asheville, North Carolina. It’s as much a vortex for today’s most creative, artistic, and spiritual folk as it was 100 years ago when George Vanderbilt was host at the Biltmore Estate. Casa Alcoa provides a great base from which to explore the southeastern Appalachian mountains. However, you may also be inclined to just relax on the screened porch and read a good book.
