vacation rental description
There are two houses on the high walled property. They can be rented
separately or together. This property is as safe and private as they
come and lends itself to either large group of family or friends or
singles and honeymoon couples. Often we have a combo of both and
guests come from various countries. The calendar on this website does
not facilitate which house or unit is available on any given night so
it is only marked unavailable when all units are reserved for a
specific night. You need to inquire as to availability. The houses
are very private from one another in this garden of joy. The small
pool and front garden area are shared by all guests. Both houses have
large roof terraza’s; great for star gazing and the cottage roof has a
view of the street and the ongoing parade of locals going about their
day. Don’t be surprised if some elephants and exotic animals come
marching by. This signifies the circus is in town! Food vendors’
w/excellent offerings and women selling their fine embroidery and
hammocks. You can easily live here and never leave home and purchase
excellent food and produce from people passing by on the street.
However, there are many restaurants, small stores and markets a short
walk from the house.
I started this building project 20+ years ago. Local Maya continue to
do the work on it. Hurricane Roxanne destroyed both houses down to
the floors about 13 years ago. I rebuilt them of solid stone like the
3 pigs said the neighbors! The style of the houses, well I call it
accidental architecture. I do make plans but never seems to turn out
that way and ends up being collaboration between me and the builders
due in no small part to cultural and language differences and
misunderstandings. The results always end up better than either
intended! For me, they have everything I need for comforts of home
and not too much. A great place to bring a group of friends and
family for reunions/weddings or just to enjoy the unique privacy of a
home in a Maya village in Mexico. Tulum is growing fast in all
directions but my neighborhood is protected and has not changed too
much. Once you enter the high walls of this preserved tropical
garden, you are in your own world and this is great for children also.
It is very safe and secure. The advantages of staying in the village
as opposed to the beaches are many. Prices for everything are half or
less in the town and there is a wider selection of restaurants, etc.
Much safer and no sand in the beds, 24 hour electricity (beach resorts
have generators). You can enjoy interacting with the locals and not
only be with other tourists. Both houses have very high ceilings,
thick stone walls, large trees shading and fans throughout. All
bedrooms are air conditioned for the hotter months and this creates a
very cool atmosphere indoors and out. All doors and windows are
screened so that you will not share your space with mosquitoes if
screen doors are kept shut. The pool is a lovely spot to sink into
after excursions or to just plain chill out with a cold drink and
children love it of course. It is not a swimming pool but adults can
float in it and it has built in seating under water; very safe for
children and nice to dip into in the hotter months before bed or after
excursions.
The Main House was remodeled and made larger in Nov. 2008. It now has
3 bedrooms, 1 downstairs and 2 upstairs, 2 bathrooms, 1 downstairs, 1
upstairs, a new indoor/outdoor stairway with large skylights leading
upstairs and up to the large flat roof in the treetops to catch the
Caribbean breeze and star gaze. It has a new large kitchen
w/microwave and various appliances, a living/dining area with bar and
2 single beds that can be combined into a king bed and small private
garden barbeque area off kitchen. Cable TV w/many channels & dvd
player. There is a large bathroom downstairs and a smaller one
upstairs. All bedrooms are now air conditioned. One bedroom upstairs
“Cuarto Zapote†has a small entry room that could sleep one person on
single bed or separate sleeping area for child in crib. It has a
small frig and bathroom. This room can be included with Main House
rental or rented separate. It has a connecting locking door to the
rest of Main House. It has it’s own outside entrance and stairway and
private Terraza overlooking the garden. Occupancy: Main House w/2
bedrooms: Max 7 people. Main House w/3bedrooms (Cuarto Zapote
included) Max 10 people. Occupancy: Cuarto Zapote only: Max 3 people.
The Cottage is separate and private from the Main House. It has 2
units; one upstairs “Cottage Alta†and the other on ground level
“Cottage Baja†facing the pool. Each is a large studio room w/a full
service kitchen and refrigerator at one end of the room, a bathroom
and large closet. Both are air conditioned. An outside stairway leads
to Cottage Alta and continues onto the large flat roof terraza.
Occupancy: Max 3 each unit.
House cleaning is done after every 3rd night w/bed and towel changes
included in rental cost.
Other services: We offer guests the following services not included
in rental cost: Pre-travel shopping and meal prepared for arrival.
Wi-Fi and Cell phone rentals. Babysitting and Laundry. In house meal
prepared, served and clean up after. Daily maid service.
Testimonials:
.Tulum feels alive. So many good restaurants, very cheap.
Delicious sweet pineapples, $4.usd at homehere $1.50 or less.
Incredible! We also found our way to the pastry shop and ended up
trying one of almost everything. I guess it wasn't a good idea to go
there after diving all day but we certainly enjoyed our dessert
brownies and pastries the next morning, by the pool, were quite a
treat. We ate at several of the places you mentioned and also
discovered a couple on our own. The food was inexpensive and quite
tasty and the casual atmosphere (shorts, tshirt, barefoot accepted)
sure made it easy to go anywhere for a great meal. Coqueta (cat) was
the perfect hostess. We were able to do 6 cenote dives and 4 ocean
dives and I must say diving the cenotes was quite an adventure --
very different from diving in the ocean. Tulum is bursting with
color! The beaches were beautiful and it seemed as if everything was
in bloom -- so unlike things in Indiana. We spent a day a Tankah
Caleta and it was truly one of the most relaxing days of my life. We
got there fairly early in the morning so we had the place to
ourselves until early afternoon. It was so nice having a week where
I only had to worry about finding a shady palm tree to lay under; one
that would provide plenty of sun for an afternoon nap. It was a
fantastic vacation! I'm really glad I did the web search and found
your house. The house is beautiful and so very comfortable. It is
easy to relax and wind down. Lots of wonderful memories and time
well spent with my family. Peg Main House March 2005
This was our first trip to Tulum and we feel really lucky to have
found your place. Your insights & advice about the great spots & not
so great ones was a huge help in making this a great experience. We
absolutely love your place and everything you have done with it.

.we were starting to fanaticize that wed never have to leave. We
could live here easy. Everything we need is close by. The
townspeople are so kind and beautiful. Theres so much here to do and
see and be. Thank you Donna for being our host. Do you rent by the
year? Tira & Patrick Cot. March 2005
We enjoyed your lovely house. The courtyard and gardens are
perfect. We spent hours here. The beaches are the prettiest weve
ever seen.Kathleen & family, Main House March 2005
Heartfelt thanks for sharing your little piece of paradise. The
garden and sitting pool provided a peaceful reprieve. We had so much
fun going out to eat and dancing at the local bars and restaurants.
Thanks so much for the good tips and helpful information. I only
wish that we could stay longer. Dan and Patricia-Cottage April 2005
What a fantastic house. Our 4 Yr. Old spent the first 2 days in the
pond/pool. Binda & Richard, Main April 2005
The Casa was mucho bonita. We love the cat and will miss her. Our
time in Tulum has been magic. Thank you. Jason, Lauren Daniel &
Hart, Main House May 2005
Thanks so much for your hospitality and providing this wonderful
house. Masumi is especially thankful for your advice on how to cure
her poison tree infection with the natural antidote ; the tree bark
your friends found for her. We enjoyed the shady garden with your
beautiful landscaping and I enjoyed every moment to talk to you.
Thanks.
Jergen & Masumi, Main House May 2005
"We returned Tuesday after almost three weeks in Mexico. We had a
great time exploring the Yucatan, and our stay at your house was
wonderful. After living in very close quarters for most of the trip,
the whole family really enjoyed being able to spread out a bit. Our
15 year old daughter loved the loft bedroom and pronounced the bed up
there as the most comfortable on our trip. Our 10 year old son
quickily made friends with the cat and he was fascinated by the
cenote. I spent a lot of time reading in the courtyard and enjoying
your lovely garden. The fountain is the perfect touch. We loved
Tulum and found the beaches to be the most beautiful of the many we
visited on this trip. We really enjoyed exploring the town, and
especially enjoyed the lively atmosphere on Saturday night. Thank
you for sharing your lovely house with us. We hope to visit again
someday. Best Regards, Kathleen"(Family of 4-Main House March 2005)
"We very much enjoyed staying in Tulum and I would rent your house
again. I liked being in town, a real town. I think it was very good
first experience for my niece...authentic Mexican rather than mega-
resort. Complete with Mama Pig and 6 piglets on one back street...It
was wonderful, went too fast, and I'm ready to go back. I'm an ESL
teacher and it definitely rekindled my desire to teach in Mexico.
Gracias para la casa! Lynn"

activities and attractions in Tulum Yucatan
Activities There are many and if you stay at StoneTree, I will
give you a list of my special discoveries and you will find new
ones! The beaches in Mexico are all public 20 meters from the shore,
so access is not a problem. If there is a resort on them you may
need to pay a dollar if you wish to use a beach chair or cabana on a
resort beach. Buy a drink or a dinner and they will be well pleased
by your visit. I love going to the beach and coming home to 24 hour
electricity, no sand in my bed or on my floor and the rooster crowing
to wake me up next door; my frig. etc., a home and a place to rest
from the immense energy of the sea and sand and to enjoy the community
of the village. I like seeing the variety of flora and fauna in the
garden and village that thrive in the less intense atmosphere.
Ceynots dot the area all around Tulum and there are many
to explore; a must do. The cool crystal clear fresh water is lovely
for swimming, snorkeling or cave driving. They were formed by a meteor
which hit the earth near Meridathe one thatcaused the extermination
of the dinosaurs and there are many of them. Some in caves with
stalactites and stalagmites.
Maya Ruin sites are also abundant. To name a few; Tulum (5 min.),
Coba (30 min drive, Xhel Ha( 20 min.), Chitzen Itza (1 Hr.) Fishing
and boat trips for snorkeling on the reef. Guided trips can be
arranged by my manager if you choose. Chetumal has a terrific
museum and many more ruin sites (2.5 Hr.) More to do there
also. I continue to find the newly discovered ruins and ceynots
after 18 years. Come! You will not be disappointed and if you
choose my place to stay. We welcome you and put forth our best
efforts to share with you and make your stay one in keeping with the
comfort level we enjoy and to share with you this place with
respect for those who are natives to the area.
