vacation rental description

Built in 2001, the cottage is designed for enjoying time inside and out during our spectacular summers and rests in a quiet location 75 feet from  ocean's edge at high tide. There are no roads or ledges to traverse when walking down to our colorful private beach. We are 15 minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, and only ten minutes from Bar Harbor Airport and 35 from Bangor International Airport. WE HAVE TIME WARNER HIGH SPEED AND NTERNET CABLE TV WITH A DVR. WE HAVE TWO FLAT SCREEN TVS. oNE IS IN THE LIVING ROOM AND ANOTHER IN THE DEN/EXTRA BDRM.
OUTSIDE
The cottage faces the sunset and Blue Hill Mountain across the inter-coastal ocean area of Union River Bay and Blue Hill Bay. A small set of wooden stairs steps down to a typical Maine tidal zone.
At low tide rocks draped in thick tangle of yellow-green and brown-purple seaweeds surround our pebble beach. These are called Rockweed and are an important part of our coastal ecosystem. The shore also has mussels and nooks for beach combing and exploring. A year-round brook empties into the Bay on the south side of the property and encourages birds and other wildlife to visit the water's edge.
A large deck and the balcony off the second-story bedroom are great places to picnic or for sitting still and enjoying songbirds, ducks, loons, gulls, eagles, on occasion some wild turkeys, squirrels, even seals, and osprey, depending on the time of year.
INSIDE
Natural knotty pine and windows everywhere give the house a light, airy feeling in the summer and winter. Sun and modest antiques fill our spacious cottage. The second-story library is a cozy spot for a quiet time. It has two writing desks under clearstory windows.
A roomy kitchen supplied with the necessities, for even a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, has lots of elbow room, natural and artificial light, and work space for cooking with your group.
The den separates its occupants from the rest of the house and provides more space designed for private time, or corralling the kids and noise during game time.

activities and attractions in Bar Harbor Maine

Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are only 15 minutes away if you
use little known Goose Cove Road. The park's well kept hiking trails
and Carriage Roads overlook the inter-coastal islands surrounding
Mount Desert Island.
The Carriage Roads are excellent, for biking or walking
and lake viewing -- or cx skiing in the winter. Long Pond and Echo
Lake are wonderful for swimming. The really brave ocean swimmer can
plunge into the waves at magnificent Sand Beach.
The three towns on Mount Desert Island (known by locals as "The
Island") all offer shopping, restaurants, boat trips, whale
watching, libraries, museums and movies as well as lovely sights to
see if you just enjoy driving. Kayaking and canoe rentals, and guidedday trips are available. Kayaks or canoes can be delivered to the site of your choice, including the cottage. Downtown Ellsworth is only 7 minutes away on Bayside Road in the opposite direction. It has more shopping, restaurants, a health-food store, a water park, and a wonderful small library on the Union River. In the center of town we suggest J&B Atlantic for browsing.
In between is Bar Harbor Airport, a small zoo, famous and not so famous places
to get lobsters and steamed clams, take an aerial tour, or even a flying lesson. There are fine golf courses on and off the "Island."
Bayside House also is located near the handsome and rugged Maine coast
just to the north. Drive "Down East" to Hancock Point, Sorrento (which has
a beautiful and inexpensive self-serve golf course right on the water) or the lessor known portion of Acadia National Park (Schoodic Point) on the north side of Frenchman Bay. Surrey Blue Hill, Castine, Penobscot, and magnificent Deer Isle and their wonderful resaraunts are close by to the South.

traveler reviews for this bar harbor house rental

We love the Bayside House!

Review submitted: May 12, 2014   Date of arrival: May 12, 2014

My family has had the pleasure of staying at the Bayside House for summer vacation the last few years and are staying again this coming Summer! I have vacationed in Mount Desert Island every summer for 40 years and have found a true gem in the Bayside House. The location is perfect, downtown Bar Harbor is about a 20 minutes away and downtown Trenton is a just a short drive away where we pick up groceries and shop at our favorite store Reny's. Down East Seafood is about a 5 minute drive where we pick up lobsters and mussels and take back to cook in the wonderfully equipped kitchen. I love cooking and watching my kids playing in the water from the kitchen windows. Bayside House is absolutely beautiful inside and there are amazing views of the ocean and woods that surround the house which makes for a peaceful escape. Bayside has a light and airy feel about it and has plenty of space for my whole family to enjoy. There is plenty of fun things to do in the surrounding area but we have found that our favorite thing to do is just relaxing at the Bayside and enjoying the house and outdoors that surround it. The sunsets from the back of the house overlooking the bay are amazing! Working with the owner has been an absolute breeze, I highly recommend this vacation rental.

A peaceful summer retreat

Review submitted: May 7, 2014   Date of arrival: August 24, 2013

This was my first experience to rent a home for a summer vacation. The owner was wonderful, answering any questions prior to our arrival. My parents were joining us from Chicago for the week. When we arrived the house was immaculate. Fresh picked cucumbers from the garden were waiting for us with a lovely note from the home's keeper. There was plenty of room to accommodate two families with children as well as privacy in the house. The views overlooking the backyard and bay were beautiful. We were pleasantly surprised by all the amenities in the kitchen since we were planning on cooking dinner every night. We also enjoyed a book that shared local recommendations for restaurants, entertainment, and excursions. Although there were distant homes on either side of our rental, we never saw anyone and felt completely secluded, but in close proximity to a Acadia and Bar Harbor. We were able to rent kayaks and a canoe that were delivered to the house for the week. What a wonderful way to enjoy the quiet bay every day! I could go on and on about our amazing week, but to sum it up... My 8 yr. old daughter now calls Maine "My Special Place", we have rented homes in Virginia and Hawaii based on our great first experience, and we are renting this house again in August 2014 because my daughter and my parents (who wanted to come again) insisted!! I forgot to mention that our dog loved it too!!

Great Place to Stay!

Review submitted: July 23, 2011   Date of arrival: June 11, 2011

When we arrived at Bayside house we were greeted by fresh flowers on the table, a beautiful view, and a very clean and comfortable place to stay. My sisters and I had traveled to Maine to celebrate a birthday. There was plenty of space for the four of us and the kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils for our use. The dishwasher was a nice addition, too! The location was perfect for trips into Bar Harbor, Acadia, and short day trips. We had a fabulous trip and Bayside House was perfect!
