This comfortable 5 bedroom/3bath coastal home (2350 sq ft) is the
perfect house for those visiting San Francisco or the beautiful
California coast. It has a comfortable layout, as there are two living
spaces: an upstairs kitchen/dining/living room and a separate
downstairs living/family/TV room with another smaller galley kitchen
on the ground floor. The downstairs living area opens onto an outdoor
patio for those who have issues with stairs.
Located in the small beachtown of Montara, it is only blocks from the
Pacific Ocean and minutes from the unspoilt beaches. Yet, it is only
20-30 minutes from San Francisco, and SF International Airport (SFO),
the cities on the Peninsula (Palo Alto, Stanford, and San Mateo), wine
country, and the cities of Santa Cruz/Monterey.
Situated next to open space, this light-filled, open house has great
views of the woods and coastal mountains. The outdoor gardens with
seating areas are home to hummingbirds, butterflies, and deer. It is a
wonderful retreat for nature lovers, the professional traveler, or a
memorable family holiday.
The house is fully furnished and equipped and was extensively
remodelled in 2001 and refurbished in 2008. A marble floor entry leads
upstairs to an open area containing the L-shaped living, dining room
and kitchen. Sliding doors open out to a large second-story deck which
overlooks the backyard gardens. The kitchen has all new appliances and
blue-tiled counters which are open to the dining room. Every room is
decorated with local artists' works.
There are three bedrooms upstairs and two bedrooms downstairs.
Bedroom #1- Calif King (Large upstairs bedroom),
Bedroom #2- Queen bed (Upstairs Master bedroom, attached bathroom)
Bedroom #3- Queen bed (Downstairs)
Bedroom #4- 2XL twin beds (Downstairs)
Bedroom #5- Twin and trundle (Upstairs) (plus extra McRoskey rollaway cot)
If extra beds are needed, there is a queen airmattress available.
Nearby (two miles), Princeton Harbor is a working harbor where you can
buy your fish fresh or smoked, take a deep-sea fishing trip, or
fish/crab from the pier. The protected beaches within the harbor are
wonderful for children, and the bluff walks above provide views of the
world-famous Mavericks surfing area, elegant cypresses, and pounding
waves. A flat paved 14-mile long bicycle trail runs from the Harbor
along the beaches past Half Moon Bay and other trails are to be found
along the bluffs, and coastal mountains.
A short ten minute drive south will get you to the quaint, seaside
town of Half Moon Bay with its galleries, restaurants, and golf
courses. Enjoy the culinary talents of chefs at a host of restaurants,
like the Navio at the Ritz-Carlton, the award-winning Cetrella, or
Zagat-rated Cafe Gibraltor. Enjoy local favorites like the HMB Brewing
company with its microbrewery, the cliff-hugging Moss Beach Distillery
or the 100-year old Duarte's in Pescadero. Order the famous local
artichoke soup.
Further south are San Gregorio and Pescadero with their beautiful
beaches, bird marshes and Pigeon Point Lighthouse. Ano Nuevo State
Park is home to the famous Elephant Seals (Nov-Mar; reservations
required). Sunny Santa Cruz has wonderful surfing beaches and
Boardwalk is a short hour south. 20-min East you will find yourself in
the redwoods, on Skyline Blvd with panoramic vistas overlooking the
Peninsula. For those who want to explore further afield Napa/Sonoma
Valley, Monterey Bay, Sacramento, and Sausalito/Stinson Beach/Muir
Woods are easy day trips.
For families with children, the house is equipped with board games,
books, videos, K-Nex, croquet. Close by are several world-renown
science/tech museums (Exploratorium/ San Jose Tech Museum), the Santa
Cruz Boardwalk, Great America, etc.
