One of Colorado’s most unique retreats, The Old Schoolhouse in Hesperus is suited for couples on romantic get-away or multi-family gatherings. Originally built in the 1880’s, the Schoolhouse has undergone a 21st century remodel within its 4500 square feet. Located just ten minutes west of downtown Durango on a very private 13+ wooded and pastoral acres, the Victorian era Schoolhouse has 4 bedrooms and 4 baths and can accommodate up to 12 guests. Spectacular views to the north are the La Plata Mountain Peaks, while the east and south offer green pastures and mixed pine and oak forests.

Also on the property are a 1906 former Catholic Church and the railroad bed for the trains that used to bring the rich ore from the Telluride area down to Durango. The area is rich with history and outdoor activities for the young or not so young. Whether you just want to get away or fully experience the Best that Colorado has to offer, you can experience the great Colorado outdoors in the luxury of this lovely home in a truly amazing setting.

The local area is host to hiking, biking, fishing, and four-wheel-
driving in the late spring, summer and fall. The breathtakingly
beautiful La Plata Canyon and La Plata River are just minutes away
and offer superb scenery and recreation opportunities. Numerous
gold-medal fishing waters are nearby.  It is centrally located to Mesa Verde and historic Durango, including the world-famous Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Durango Mountain resort is within a 40-minute drive for
wintertime skiing, and Telluride Ski area is within less than two
hours.
