Spacious and elegant condominium home known as "la Maison Ursulines"
in the heart of Old Qubec's magnificent Upper Town, 1990+ sq ft,
located within the ancient city walls, included in the UNESCO World
Heritage Site and overlooking Upper Town's memorial square to
education.
With next door neighbors including the 1804 Holy Trinity Cathedral
(modeled on London's St. Martin-In-The Fields and the oldest Anglican
church outside of Great Britain) just across the square, the 1722
Ursulines Chapel, Museum and Monastery right across the street, the
world famous Musee d'art Inuit Brousseau at the end of the street,
Battlefields Park (the world's tenth largest city park) just up the
hill, Notre-Dame Basilica just down the street ...and the Restaurant
Aux Anciens Canadiens (la Maison Jaquet, the oldest building in the
province) simply around the corner; this condominium home is at the
heart of the Ville de Qubec's historical treasurers.
Within two blocks of the Chateau, this 185 year old, 2-level home
totals over 1990 sq. ft. and provides the ideal home base for
exploring the surrounding town, for gracious entertaining and casual
lounging activities.
Located on a quiet street, the main entrance incorporates the first
level of a keyed building constructed of cut limestone in the Neo
Classical tradition. Upon entering, you are greeted by a pair of
carved wood and stain glass entry doors leading to a private interior
foyer ...the residence of Louis-Philippe Pelletier, Quebec's famous
Supreme Court judge and the judge in the trial of the King versus
Marie-Anne Houde.
This level has 12 foot ceilings plus restored original Corinthian
details and includes a living room with 9-foot high shuttered windows
(overlooking Upper Town's charming square), formal dining room
(seating for 10), complete kitchen, breakfast area, a full bath and a
library/office. Floors are antique narrow-strip polished natural
finish Canadian maple.
The lower level presents an intimate ambiance with its profusion of
rustic stone walls, decorative fireplace and hued wood beams. The two
bedrooms and a relaxing family room (or third bedroom) all have
clerestory windows and polished walnut finished wood floors. The
bathroom on this level is inset into a room with exposed stone walls
and features one of two contemporary glass shower stalls, ceramic
tile floors and a refurbished period claw-foot tub.
Decorated with antiques, "over stuffed" country French furnishings
and an eclectic art collection; it's a sophisticated yet very
comfortable environment.
Shopping, dining, museums and cultural events are less than a block
away South to rue Ste Louis or one block North to rue Ste Anne. For
the best in fresh meats, produce, a good bottle of wine or a quick
snack; a great deli is just two doors away.
THE SUMMER SEASON
Reserve this elegant home for an unforgetable visit. The summer
months are a wonderfully mild season in this magical city with
special events daily including New France historical celebrations
just down the hill and the Changing of the Guard just up the hill in
La Citadelle. Throughout the summer, the Old City overflows with
window boxes and hanging flower baskets.
For high energy fun, consider The International Qubec City Summer
Festival that transforms Old Qubec into a giant outdoor stage. Over
500 shows of every description are held at some fifteen venues within
easy walking distance of this elegant accomodation.
WINTER FUN
It's also never too early to consider a winter fun and ski get-away.
This condominium home is an ideal balance between close-by world
class ski destinations like Mount St. Anne and Stoneham and great in-
town night life ...for a truly French/European Christmas season,
reserve this special home in December/January and have a magical
holiday.
Or join in Qubec's February Winter Carnival; the biggest winter
carnival in the world. Most events are right in the neighborhood,
with the world famous toboggan run less than three blocks away at the
Dufferin Terrace and The Governor's Walk.
THE "OFF" SEASONS
If art collecting, antiquing, or a quiet romantic get-away's the
goal, consider booking a stay during our off seasons. The crowds are
gone and the locals "retake" the cafes as Old Qubec slows down to a
pace that matches the changing seasons.
The streets and squares echo the horse-drawn carriages' passing as
the clip-clop melody passes right by the front door. The quiet
seasons also bring the city's old-world charm into focus as church
bells harken the passing days. It's a great way to sample the town's
timeless European tempo.
NOTES:
A. This elegant condominium home is a "one-of-a-kind" in the old city
and return guests are already booking for next year. If this
accomodation meets your specifications, we encourage you to reserve
your stay very early; especially if your visit is to coincide with a
special event.
B. Please bring your favorite house slippers for use inside; it's an
old-world tradition that's friendly to the polished antique wood
floors. (In the winter, the municipal government keeps the streets
and sidewalks clear of ice and snow with the liberal use of salt and
chemicals ...it's great outside, but devours wood floors.)
