Fantastic & Peaceful Location - Very Nice House!!!

george (Ashland, KY)
Review submitted: November 12, 2011   Date of arrival: September 23, 2011

This retreat was awesome. The house is at the quietest part of Alligator Point. It's beautifully decorated, roomy and comfortable. Very well maintained and welcoming. The entire front of the house is a wall of windows overlooking the bay and the private beach is right in front of the house. We anchored our boat right in front of the house all week. The channel & marina are very close so we got to the fishing spots fast.

Not only were we right on the bay - across the road is the Gulf of Mexico - you can see it from the back side of the house. We slept with the windows open and heard the surf from the Gulf at night. So restful. The huge living room has a big fireplace that we plan to use on our next stay.

The kitchen had everything my wife could want and then some. I liked the wireless internet I could use even from the hammock and all the tv stations when we weren't outside. My wife called her sisters in Canada and Wisconsin all week for free. The owners are really accommodating and want you to enjoy your vacation - And THEY DON'T EVEN CHARGE A CLEANING FEE.

We collected tons of shells on our walks at the bird sanctuary close by and saw lots of birds there and on the deck all week. We will definitely be back and will bring our grandchildren to make special memories for them, too.
I recommend this place to anyone wanting to getaway from it all and reconnect with nature and each other. I know we will be back as soon as we can!

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet-friendly, sight seeing, romantic getaway

Owners response: We regularly upgrade the house and want folks to relax and enjoy it as much as we do. We think it is the perfect place to recharge your batteries while appreciating all the beach has to offer. So glad they had a great time and think so, too. These nice folks are welcome back anytime.

Too many steps!

Naive (Roswell, GA, USA)
Review submitted: September 18, 2011   Date of arrival: September 13, 2011

This experience was a total disaster! We were ignorant of the number of steps to the house, and it was a difficult situation trying to get all our luggage & groceries up 2 flights of steps. We were in error for not asking, so cannot fault anyone but ourselves. So, unless you are young enough to handle it, pass on this one. Also, it is a long way from the main highway, which means there is a lot of driving involved to get anywhere. And no easy access to beach. Otherwise, nice, well-maintained house.

Owners response: It is indeed disappointing that 85 year old "Naive" as the lady refers to herself, failed to realize the beach house is not on the ground. In my original email to her before she chose our home, I suggested she check out the full website (which I cannot list on my Vacation Rentals site - their rule) with many additional photos not on the Vacation Rentals site or ask any question she may have.

The three photos from the deck and the exterior shot of the house are pretty self explanatory and clearly the one story house on stilts has steps. It gives us great views and breezes from both bay and gulf across the street. The covered patio downstairs gives a large shady area to lie in the hammock or sit in comfortable chairs out of the sun. It's also a great place for kids to play out of the rain or hot sun.

The wooden walkway to the beach keeps bare feet out of the sand until you reach the beach and water which is directly in front of the house. (see the photos) A pretty easy walk of maybe 80 feet to the water I'm guessing.

As far as not being right on Highway 98 - that's right. It's maybe a 10 minute drive on a recently paved road from the busy and noisy highway. That is why it is peaceful and quiet at the house - no traffic sounds, just birds and waves. 10 minutes seems like a small price to pay to get away from big trucks and cars zooming by. It's obviously better for kids and pets, too.

From the multiple emails from elderly "Naive" including instructions how to use the TV remote, we thought they loved the house - not sure how we could have made her trip to the beach better. In her last email to us she did say that a downtown hotel might be more to their liking. This beach house is definitely NOT that. Thank goodness!

Home Away from Home

junebug (Atlanta, Georgia)
Review submitted: June 21, 2011   Date of arrival: June 21, 2011

I stayed at the property from June 11 to 19. This was our third time staying in the Alligator Point House, and we adored our visit. The home is well-maintained and inviting. Alligator Point is a terrific place to visit for anyone who is looking to get away from it all. The Alligator Point House is well-stocked for those who love to cook and stay at home. The bay front location is terrific for children because it offers a shallow place to swim and lots of wildlife to observe. Also a great place to bring the kayak. The owners are terrific. I can't say enough good things about this place, and I will be staying here again! I have recommended the home to friends, and I will continue to do so.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet-friendly, sight seeing, romantic getaway

Owners response: I am so glad to hear you and your family enjoyed our quiet little getaway beach house as much as we do. I try to keep useful things in the house to use myself when I can escape the real world for a while and happy to hear they served you well, too.

Thanks for the great photos of your daughter and husband on the beach in front of the house. So cute. I'm sharing them with others who love coming to the house, too. I know your daughter enjoyed the crabs on the beach and all the birds we get on the deck feeders and in the water out front. As always, you and your family are welcome back anytime.
