Punta el Custodio is an isolated development of 15 unique houses on a rocky point jutting into the Pacific. We’re a gated community with access only to residents and guests, assuring privacy and the pleasure of walking about amid beautifully landscaped common areas and the ancient wave-swept Point. A large swimming pool is nearby for all residents and guests. It’s just a minute’s walk to the stairways down to the ocean, with a 12 mile soft sand beach across an estuary, another five minutes’ walk away. The beach is typically vacant, allowing long walks in perfect solitude, or you can enjoy some of Mexico's finest surfing right at the base of the Point or explore the estuary, where there are thousands of birds. Casa Colibri is the most private of all the Point’s houses; it consists of four separate buildings, three of them lofty palapas, connected by a vine-covered walkway. While it is not on the perimeter of the Point, its upstairs terrace provides a sea view. The house is spacious — about 3500 square feet, with a huge open main palapa serving as the living area, looking out onto lush interior gardens and huge strangler fig trees. Casa Colibri has its own private pool with optional heating. This is truly a “coffee-table book” home!
Friendly, experienced staff on site to help with any questions, problems or special needs. Full housekeeping and laundry service 5-1/2 days a week (maids are off from Saturday noon through Monday AM). Meal Plan includes two ample meals a day (and a restaurant dinner on Sunday, when the maid is off), fresh fruit, snacks, bottled water, soft drinks, beer and lots of fresh-squeezed orange juice. Liquor and wine can be purchased at the gatehouse. Two huge bedrooms and two large ones. The fourth bedroom has twin beds, ideal for kids. Comfortably furnished inside and out.
From the Point you can spend hours watching whales, dolphins, pelicans, frigate birds, mantas and more. The estuary’s sand bar, right at the base of the Point, provides a break with superb surfing most of the time, whether with long or short boards, boogie boards or body surfing. Some take kayaks through the surf in into the ocean, or you can kayak up the estuary into the mangroves, where you will find a virtual Serengeti of birds, and perhaps some crocodiles. Fish off the rocks or have a local guide take you out a few miles for great deep-sea fishing. Go out whale watching in season. Go over to Turtle Beach at sunset and watch hundreds of baby turtles released. Explore the picturesque local farming and fishing towns and their open-air markets. Visit ancient Huichol Indian petroglyphs, go horseback riding on the beach, take a jungle cruise or go on a world-class bird watching trip in nearby mountainous cloud forests. Or just hang out in our comfortable house.
