Whether you are looking for a short term vacation rental or are shopping for that future retirement home, Ocean Village on Florida's East Coast offers more amenities & value for your vacation dollar than just about any oceanfront resort in Florida. This quiet, peaceful resort is located in Ft. Pierce on South Hutchinson Island about 90 minutes north of West Palm Beach, 2 hours to Disneyworld, 1/2 hour north of Stuart, 15 minutes from Jensen Beach and 1/2 hour south of Vero Beach.

We are located 2 miles south of the northern tip of South Hutchinson
Island.

We have a recently remodeled, ground floor villa (1BR), with a view of the golf course. Our unit features a queen-sized bed in the bedroom and a queen-sized sofa sleeper in the living room. It is centrally located within the resort and is a short 200 yard walk from
a beautiful beach.

Completely furnished, linens and towels provided, fully equipped kitchen with microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator with icemaker, central A/C, washer & dryer, ceiling fans in living room and bedroom, screened patio,  2 Color TV's (with cable). The TV in the living room was recently replaced with a 22" HDTV. It gets the major networks in hi-def...ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX and PBS to watch your favorite primetime shows and most sporting events.

In early December of 2011 we had free high speed wireless internet installed in our condo.   Prior to this we have had to send our guests to the Ocean Village Clubhouse about 100 yards away to access the internet.   (And that still works by the way.) But our cluster recently has switched from Comcast to TCI for Cable TV and with that change came the free high speed internet.  

We recently remodeled our bathroom completely to include an all ceramic tile walk-in shower.

The resort features 4 swimming pools (heated in winter), 10 tennis courts, 2 paddleball courts, a well equipped fitness center, a 9-hole, par-27 executive golf course (longest hole 175 yards - shortest hole 70 yards) which is free in the Off-Season and has a $3 green fee from about Dec 20 thru a week after Easter. The resort also has its own 4-Star restaurant, The Sunrise Ocean Grill which is located next to the largest of the 3 swimming
pools.   The fitness center consists of several treadmills, an elliptical stepper, 2 stationary bikes, a universal type gym, about 10 Nautilus type machines and free-weights or dumbbells. 

Also featured next to the main pool is a pool-side Tiki Bar which is open for food and drinks about 4 or 5 days a week depending on the weather, a "kiddie pool" for small children, a hot-tub, a Bocce court, and an exercise room with sauna and shower facilities.

Ocean Village is a fabulous place to enjoy a Golf Vacation with no less than 20 championship style golf courses (mostly Fazio, Nicklaus and Gary Player designed) all within a 40 minute drive. Prices range from $15 to $35 for 18 holes with a cart during the off-season. In-season prices are about double. All of these courses are open to the
public. Many of them offer "daily fee" golf (play-all-day) during certain days of the week or times of the year. Also most of these courses will not penalize you for a cart fee if you show up by yourself or with an odd number of golfers. The worst of these golf courses are probably nicer than any of the municipals that you play back home.

Great surf fishing for Bluefish, Pompano and other species right on our beach during the winter months. Excellent fishing at the South Jetty at Fort Pierce Inlet also. The PP Cobb Bridge which connects S.Hutchinson Island with the town of Fort Pierce also has 2 catwalks
which offer excellent Indian River fishing as well. There is also great fishing 10 minutes north on the Little Jim Bridge on the causeway to North Hutchinson Island.

Grapefruit League Baseball: Ocean Village is within a half hour drive of the NY Mets (St. Lucie West) Spring Training Camp...In addition, once spring training ends in early April, the minor league affiliate of the Mets  (St. Lucie Mets) play a full season of Class A Florida League baseball here at this same site from April to mid-September. Most of these minor league games are played at night and are very inexpensive. You can find discount coupons for many of the Mets games in many convenience stores and in the local newspapers. Although you've probably never heard of most of the players, it's a very enjoyable way to spend an evening.     Sorry Dodger fans.    The LA Dodgers closed up shop in Vero Beach a few years ago and moved to the Cactus League in Arizona for their spring training.   The minor league Vero Beach Dodgers no longer exist.

For those traveling from the Northeast US: one mode of travel that we have used at least a dozen times ourselves is the Amtrak Autotrain. We are about two and a half hours from the Autotrain dropoff point in Sanford, FL. We've gotten tickets for two people and our vehicle for as little as $600 round trip, but the fees are seasonal.

The obvious advantages of the Autotrain (over driving or flying) are:
1. You get to use your own car instead of renting one.
2. You save at least 2 nights in a motel round trip.
3. Amtrak saves you about 1400 miles of driving round trip and the gasoline required to drive those miles.
4. You save 4-8 meals in restaurants per person round trip because meals are included on the Autotrain.

To access the Autotrain you must drive to Lorton, Virginia about 20 miles south of Washington DC on I-95.

Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute - 10 minutes north on Route US1.

UDT Navy Seal Museum - 10 minutes north on N. Hutchinson Island

Bathtub Beach/Reef - 25 minutes south - great snorkeling and swimming for smaller children.

Jensen Beach Access - 15 minutes south on Route A1A.

Gilbert's Bar House of Refuge - 17 miles south of Ocean Village, a 19th century life saving station, the only one still surviving on Florida's east coast. A remnant of the U.S. Lifesaving Service now known as the U.S. Coast Guard.

Elliott Museum - Local museum that features anything from sportscard exhibits to antique automobile shows. 20 minutes south on Route A1A.

Manatee Center - 7 minutes away in downtown Fort Pierce - great place to see live manatees (best viewing in winter) Viewing is free! Small
donation to see the museum.

A.E. "Bean" Backus Home and Art Museum - 7 minutes away in downtown Fort Pierce. Fort Pierce's most famous 20th century artist.

Disneyworld/Universal Studios - approximately 2 hours away

Kennedy Space Center - approximately 1 hour 45 minutes north

Horseback Riding on the Beach - at the Frederick Douglass Memorial Park exactly 2.2 miles south of Ocean Village on Route A1A.

Airboat Rides - The most reasonably priced airboat rides we've been able to find are conveniently located on the way to Orlando. Just follow I-95 North to Exit 75 and take Route 520 West about 5 miles to the Lone Cabbage Fish Camp on your left. A nice side-trip if you're headed to/from Orlando.

Fort Pierce Jai Alai - located on King's Highway about a mile north of the FL Turnpike exit at Fort Pierce (Seasonal). Off-Track Betting is also featured here.

Shopping: 3 major shopping malls within a 1/2 hour drive:
