We have named our vacation rental property the "The Seven Acre Wood"
in order to communicate both the magic of our private mountain
getaway and the fact that it's possible to be close to all the fun
and activities of Grand Lake and Rocky Mountain National Park while
still feeling as if you're a thousand miles away.
Our vacation rental home is built with hand-peeled logs that were
harvested from the Rocky Mountain region. Custom-designed, it's
positioned to capture the beauty and solitude of our seven-acre
property -- which includes meadow and forest. Our seven acres extend
to the top of a ridge; and so we are also fortunate to have lake
views and broad vistas of the snow-capped mountains from our wrap-
around deck. Our visiting neighbors often include elk, deer, and
fox.
The property is just minutes from the west entrance to Rocky
Mountain National Park and the historic national park gateway
Village of Grand Lake. Outdoor activities available within five
minutes are almost limitless including swimming, sailing, cross-
country skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing. If however, you just
want to relax, that is fine too since sometimes our favorite thing
to do is to simply sit on our deck and savor the blue of a Colorado
sky against the velvet of national forest-lined mountains. Grand
Lake offers an active mountain experience in a quiet, stress-free
location far removed from the hustle and bustle of other mountain
resorts.
Our newly constructed vacation home offers 2,600 square feet of
living space and modern conveniences. Our love for log structures is
evident throughout the house. There are two nice-sized bedrooms and
a large bath on the main floor; and there’s a large master suite
with an adjoining bath and loft on the top floor. While it's very
cozy, our vacation rental home is also washed with light on the
interior -- as we made sure to use lots of large windows to capture
the views. The living room, dining room, and kitchen combine to make
a great room that is a comfortable gathering place.
We hope you'll be our guest and discover "The Seven Acre Wood" and
the Grand Lake area for yourself and your family. We invite you to
call our home "your own special cabin in the woods"!
Please, no smoking and no pets.
Grand Lake and Rocky Mountain National Park
The Village of Grand Lake is in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, less
than 2 hours west of Denver. The village sits on the shores of Grand
Lake, overlooking Rocky Mountain National Park. With nearby man-made
Shadow Mountain and Granby Reservoirs, the three recreational lakes
offer more than 150 miles of scenic shoreline for camping, fishing
or hiking.
One of Colorado’s first vacation communities, Grand Lake is no
stranger to making folks feel at home with its charming lakeside
village setting. You will enjoy the quaint cabins and summer homes
dotting the shores of Colorado’s largest natural lake. Strolling
down the main street you get the feeling the frontier still exists
as the western heritage is carefully preserved through wooden
boardwalks and split lodgepole pine facades on the downtown
buildings. Grand Lake’s history would make a great Western classic:
it has all the characters – Indians, trappers, miners, ranchers,
even a storied gunfight at the old icehouse.
Grand Lake is popular for its sunny days, low-key tempo, family-
owned shops, fine restaurants and live professional theater. Take a
leisurely walk along the boardwalk, meander down to the lake front
and feel invigorated by your time spent with the friendly, warm
people of Grand Lake.
While Grand Lake is know as a summer resort with its warm Colorado
sun the village makes for a perfect winter setting with lights
illuminating the shore of the lake and the snow-covered peaks
providing a spectacular backdrop. Compared to the hustle and bustle
of many winter vacation spots, the Village of Grand Lake is a quiet,
peaceful winter wonderland where a thick blanket of snow changes the
town into a pastoral scene. In fact, it is not uncommon to have a
moose or two wander down the main street.
The west entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park and Trail Ridge
Road is about 2 miles from our home on US Hwy 34. Stop first at the
Kawuneeche Visitor Center which has hands-on exhibits, ranger-led
interpretive hikes during the summer and ranger-sponsored programs.
