Gooney Lodge in Front Royal

Gooney Lodge is a rustic and historic property located in the
Browntown Valley just below Shenandoah National Park. The earliest
portion of the house was built in the 1700's. Construction was
completed in the early 1900's. Gooney has been mentioned in
numerous articles and a book by John Weaver, whose parents owned the Lodge for 40 years. Current owners have owned the property since 1958.
Located on the banks of Gooney Creek, the main house boasts
balconies overlooking vaulted ceilings in living and dining rooms with double
fireplace, claw foot tubs (one with shower) in the two bathrooms,
eclectic mix of antique furnishings including a pump organ and crank
Victorola, and a 100 foot front porch with ceiling fans facing the
creek, which rushes by approximately 10 yards from the porch. The
kitchen has the original stone walls. There are 4 bedrooms in the
main house as well as a guest cottage with double bed and a barn on
the property.

Fully equipped kitchen with range, refrigerator, microwave,
toaster/toaster oven and coffee maker. Spring fed well dates back
to the 1700's. Creek with swimming and fishing. Rocking chairs,
hammock and glider on porch. Swings for children. NO TV/VCR/DVD.
Phone for local calls, CD player/radio. Working fireplace in living
room. 5 double beds in main house, one 3/4 bed, one single, and one
child's bed. 1 double bed in guest cottage.
Charcoal grill. Badminton and horseshoes. Boardgames, cards and lots
of good books.

Swimming, fishing, hiking, Shenandoah River 5 minutes away for
canoeing, tubing; horseback riding in Andy Guest State Park;
Shenandoah National Park 5 minutes. Wineries, Skyline & Luray
Caverns; Civil War Battlefields; Wash. DC 70 miles; Front Royal
bookshops, restaurants, summer festivals (wine, apple, leaf),
Rudacille General Store in Browntown; antique shops, pottery shops,
etc. etc. Sitting on porch, sitting in creek, napping...

Rentals are available for week long or weekend periods. 2009
Weekend (Friday noon-Sunday noon)Rates are $600 plus $100 deposit.
2009 Weekly Sat. noon-Sat. noon) Rates are $1200 plus $100 deposit (refundable).
Other periods (e.g., long weekends, two weeks)are available at
custom rates upon request/availability.  One-half rental fee due at time of reservation; remainder due one month prior to rental period.  Refunds once received subject to owner discretion.
Rental period is from May through October. Additional services
