Great place to stay

Review submitted: September 1, 2011   Date of arrival: August 16, 2011

Our family (2 parents,3 teens, and 3 small children) stayed here for a week and had a great time. The house was very clean, lots of linens and towels were available for our use, the kitchen was surprisingly well equipped (with the exception of a deep-dish baking pan),and it was close to several beaches and St.Augustine attractions. The house is older and has the charm and quirks of an older home. The back porch is very comfortable and there is a lot of seating space outside. The house is cooled with window units, but we were very comfortable. The only two things we found that would really improve the house would have been a vent hood over the stove and a king size bed. We cooked all but two of our meals at the house, and the cooking smells lingered. We did have to open the kitchen window whenever we cooked something. This was not a huge inconvenience to us, but a hood would have definitely been an improvement. We saw a manatee, a sea turtle, and many fish in the river behind the house. The sunsets were gorgeous. We really enjoyed the quiet and peaceful neighborhood. There was lots of space for the children to play outside. Two beach bikes were provided with the house, as were an assortment of boogie boards and beach toys. We took advantage of many of the attractions in St. Augustine. We particularly loved the Spanish Village where we observed a live archaeological dig and several reenactments. Other highlights were the Castillo, Fort Matanzas (could not recommend that one enough--it was fantastic), the Fountain of Youth, and the Pirate Museum. We would probably not do the Fountain of Youth or Pirate museum again, and we would not recommend the Pirate museum for non-reading children. Much of the display was interactive and required reading through computer screens and finding things--very cool, but not for little ones. We loved the beaches. Crescent Beach is closest, but we found the current there very strong. Historic Butler Beach was probably our favorite, but St. Augustine Beach was also nice. We ate out at O'Steens for our big meal out. It was worth every penny (and it was a lot of pennies with our large family!) Overall, we would love to come and stay in this house again.

In Heaven

We rented this house with a family of 4 adults, 1 child, and two dogs. My Father has to use a ridding cart and have a room with no stares. We were able to pull the cart into the screened in porch and plug it up. the house also has a ground floor bedroom. The people that own the pier next to the house were kind and let us use the pier to fish off of. The home is and older model but everything worked and was very nice. The location is great. The beach is a 2 min. drive from the house and any thing that you want to go and do is with in 15 min from the house. The beach allows dogs as long as they are on a leash and you pick up after them. This is the perfect place to go and do any thing you want and not spend a lot. Also if fishing is what you want, when we fished off the pier we caught all kinds of salt water fish.
