activities and attractions in Pyrenees-Atlantiques Aquitaine
Please log onto our website for an extensive list of things to do
and see in the region.
Sports, culture, wine, gastronomy. Chateau Robert and the
surrounding region provide more than enough to keep you entertained
and interested whether you stay for one week or one month. Two
useful websites are available on our site with information about the
region from sporting to restaurants.
Around the House
Chateau Robert, itself offers many activities from swimming and
tennis to trout fishing in the spring fed trout pond. Fishing rods
and other necessary equipment are available at the Chateau. There is
also a beautifully restored antique pool table and table tennis in
the games room along with indoor board and card games in the drawing
room.
The swimming pool has a large number of teak deck chairs and full
recliners. In the pool hut is a comfortable shaded area, a fridge
for cold drinks, a changing room, separate washroom and outdoor
shower.
Immediately behind the pool is a hard surface tennis court. The
court, constructed four years ago, is in excellent condition. A
small number of rackets are available for use in the pool hut.
Food in the Neighborhood
Gourmet food lovers will not be disappointed by a stay at Chateau
Robert. In close proximity are three very different but outstanding
restaurants, all of which require booking in advance.
Ten minutes away is the small village of Eugenie Les Bains. A
magical place that has been fully restored to its former glory by
Michel Guerard. Eugenie is famous not only for its hydrotherapy spa
but also its restaurants. There are two restaurants owned by Michel
Guerard, the spectacular Michelin 3* Les Pres d'Eugenie, and the
more informal and rustic La Ferme aux Grives. Les Pres d'Eugenie
offers the ultimate in refined French dining and has a wine list
that will not disappoint even the most knowledgeable and demanding
wine connoisseur. A short walk away is La Ferme aux Grives. A more
casual restaurant than its neighbour, La Ferme is in a magnificently
restored barn and features a massive open fireplace where cochon aux
lait and poulet are spit roasted in front of you.
Spa
Southwest France is famous for its numerous spas, the best of which
happens to be the closest, just 20 minutes away in the village of
Eugenie Les Bains. Fully restored to its former glory under the
ownership of Michel Guerard, Eugenie is one of France's leading
centers for weight loss, and offers numerous spa and hydrotherapy
treatments. The mineral springs have been in use since Roman times
but were brought to prominence by the patronage of Empress Eugenie,
wife of Napoleon the third.
Golf
Although the French are not known for their love of golf, Southwest
France, with its historic English association, caught the golf bug
many years ago. As a result some of the finest courses in Europe can
be found here. For more information on all courses in the region see
our site.
