Vacation Rental Description

This 2 bedroom, 2 bath stilt home with WIRELESS INTERNET is just 300 ft from the beach with
no traffic & no roads to cross. Decor reflects the colors and natural
beauty of this still-pristine area of the Gulf Coast. Forget dense
decorations & mirror walls... this one is clean & simple. Brand new
in '97, built by a career builder for retirement, the home has some
real plusses; real wood windows (and LOTS of them, a SIX foot bathtub
for soaking away stress, natural forest area preserved in front of
the house and a floor plan designed for pure relaxation. The breezes
& sea sounds make for some serious relaxation.

The area is clean and private with natural vegetation, very safe and
family oriented. Leave your belongings on the beach and no worry.
Crowds? Forget it! On Memorial Day (2002) at noon, we counted maybe
30 people as far as the eye could see. Swimming is a joy...an even,
sandy bottom and no currents. The water is clear and appears emerald
green most of the time (storms can make it cloudy).

Walking in the wooded dunes is a real treat. It is very enjoyable to
visit the State Park and hike out toward the tip of the Cape taking
the path along the bay. If you're quiet, you will usually come upon
groups of small Cape deer. The beach at the St Joseph State Park was
most beautiful in the U.S. by Dr Beach's annual rating. That beach is
2 miles north of Sea Dune...essentially a continuation of the same
beach except at the State Park, in the absence of any development,
the dunes remain in their natural state...in some places up to 30 ft
high.

There are no bars, motels, game rooms etc on the Cape and traffic is
limited to people renting homes, state park visitors and service
folks. Cape San Blas is sparsely developed with plenty of open areas
for meandering.

You can fish right on the beach in front of the house and usually
catch some whiting and the occasional flounder. Sometimes there are
numerous blue crabs. The best fishing is at an area called
the "stumps" about 2 miles south of the house. Look for the rock
barrier wall on the gulf side...that's where it is. It's also fun to
take a boat out into the bay where the fishing is also very good.
Boat rentals are available at Presnell's Marina (between the Cape &
Port St. Joe) and a new place that opened next to Captain Jacks store
on the Cape near the State Park.

The bay is great for snorkeling. There are areas in the State Park
(further out on the Cape) that are shallow where you can walk out
waist deep, then lay down to snorkel. At Sea Dune, the Cape is only
900 feet wide. From the Cape back to the mainland it is 10 miles
across the bay at its widest point so you are really "out in the
water".

From Sea Dune's driveway you walk 200 feet to the main road, turn
right, then about 350 feet to the "Tradin Post", a folksy convenience
store. For a supermarket, the closest would be in Port St Joe, about
10 minutes drive.

For shopping, antiques and excellent restaurants, it's about 20
minutes to Appalachicola, a sleepy one-time cotton port that time
forgot...plenty of quaint homes nestled in old sub-tropical
neighborhoods. There are a number of good restaurants...I
recommend "The Hut" for excellent seafood...not at all fancy, but a
table by the bay and stuffed flounder like you've never tasted.

When the weather is favorable, I like to sleep with all the windows
open (Sea Dune has 12 windows and one sliding door). Listen to the
waves and feel the breeze... There is nothing quite like it! Stroll
out onto the deck late at night and look up; you will be amazed at
the night sky. I have seen Venus so bright that it casts a reflection
on the Gulf!

"Sea Dune" has been designed to harmonize with its surroundings. The
lot is wooded and affords a good deal of privacy. The furnishings are
comfortable and informal. The interior architecture could be
described as "beach Shaker"...clean lines, open areas, colors that
reflect the sea and sky.

So, don't take my word for it... experience it yourself... the "Sea
Dune" house at beautiful Cape San Blas!
