vacation rental description

"We had a fantastic time!! The House was perfect for our group and the kids absolutely loved it here!"

If you're looking to find a Yosemite vacation rental home with that "Rustic, Mountain, Lodge-like" feel then your search may very well be over.  Nestled amongst giant, native Oaks, Cedars, Manzanita and pines, The Little Lodge is one of the area’s most popular places to stay and offers friends and families traveling together a wonderfully unique and memorable Yosemite lodging experience.  Its magical, mountain style adds much to the atmosphere of this wonderful place that comfortably accommodates from two, to four adults and accompanying children.

This exceptionally spacious, 1600 sq. ft. 2 ½ bedroom Cabin is hidden away on more than 7 secluded acres and is conveniently close to Yosemite, Mariposa, the Merced River Canyon and the legendary Gold Rush region along historic Hwy 49.  Ideally located just ¼ mile off Hwy 140 and near the small mountain community of Midpines, this place makes for an ideal base for all your Yosemite adventures!

The home is tastefully furnished with style, comfort and convenience in mind and has a fully-equipped Country Kitchen with modern appliances, large, beautifully done bedrooms as well as incredible outdoor patios and playground for all in your group to enjoy.

THE LIVING, KITCHEN and DINING AREAS

From the moment you walk in the door, you'll know you’ve come “home” to the mountains. The Little Lodge’s living room is large, open and spacious, has 20' redwood cathedral ceilings as well as huge, picture windows and includes two full-size sofas, a rocking recliner and several comfortable chairs.  This sitting area surrounds the awesome, stone wood-burning fireplace and behind it you’ll find the piano.  Also in this room is the entertainment center where you’ll find the stereo system, TV w/DVD/VCR and extensive satellite channels, including HBO.  There is an abundance of adult, and children’s board games here as well as an eclectic collection of movies and a couple of Kid’s corners full of books, toys and surprises.

At the opposite end of this room are the three stairs leading to the dining area and the side door which leads directly out onto the back patio area, and to the SPA.

On the next level is the dining area that seats up to eight at the main table, and four more comfortably at the drop-leaf, this table is also great for family puzzles that can be left accessible in the kitchen throughout your stay.  This room sits adjacent to big, sunny country kitchen where there’s even more seating at the counter.  The kitchen is FULLY-stocked with every convenience, has modern appliances, refrigerator, tile countertops, dishwasher, microwave and more, the back door leads you right outside where you’ll find the new, clean gas grill.

 THE BEDROOMS and BATHS

The unique and spacious bedrooms all have wonderful views to the surrounding trees and mountains.  Each bedroom is beautifully appointed with both modern and antique furniture as well as comfortable, quality beds, additional blankets are plentiful here and can be easily found throughout the house.

The large, Master Bedroom is located on the main floor and has a King-size bed, a sitting/reading area and a lovely daybed with trundle - A family of up to four can comfortably stay in this room. There is a small private patio area off this room as well which also offers easy wheelchair access, the kitchen and full bathroom are also on this same level.

The second, whimsical bedroom is located upstairs on the third level and has a King-size bed, a loveseat, and its own full bathroom with both a tub, and shower.  There is also a TV, DVD/VCR player as well as a separate Satellite receiver in this room.  There are vaulted ceilings with skylights, a twin-size bed in the Nook half-bedroom and a twin-sleeper in the loveseat making this room large enough for a family of four as well. The "nook" is a small room off this bedroom, great for kids!   There is a Queen size sleeper sofa and an Aero bed in the living room for additional guests, if needed.

The second, full bathroom is located on the main floor, a full-size washer and dryer are also located in this same room and for your convenience, we provide earth-friendly laundry soap and even a drying rack for those of you who would like one.  The washer and dryer are available to all our guests, regardless of the duration of their stay.

And OUTSIDE…

You’ll find the aged-brick patio area with a Redwood table for casual, outdoor dining and you’ll be astounded by the beauty of the forest that surrounds you.  From absolutely every angle the view is magnificent, giant trees, peek-a-boo distant views, an assortment of wildlife and incredible birds.

The full-size Spa is delightful.  It is just steps from the back door, exceptionally well-kept and available ALL YEAR LONG.  The night sky from here is amazing, the absolute quiet renewing.

There is a plethora of outdoor furniture sprinkled around the house and grounds, a Foosball table out back and a large, open courtyard area in front that is complete with Badminton and swing set, a child’s playhouse & slide and a seasonal campfire pit, surrounded by an abundance of old growth, fruit bearing trees.  Take a hike, sit back and relax, the choice is yours here at Yosemite’s Little Lodge…

FOR THE CHILDREN

The Little Lodge is one of the few that is obligingly set up for the kids.  We make a real effort here to cater to families traveling with children and offer the use of a wide variety of baby/child items such as highchair, booster seat, crib & Pak-n-Play (travel cot) as well as lots of books & toys. The home is exceptionally child friendly and thoughtfully baby-proofed and outside, you'll find a log cabin play house, a sand box, a slide and small cars to ride in etc. for the smaller children.  And don’t forget about that Foosball table!

We understand that those who are traveling with children are often unable to spend the better part of each and every day sight-seeing but rather need to be able to spend a significant portion of their time at “home”, what better place to be than in this spacious, quiet and comfortable space where the children can sleep and play, and you can relax & enjoy?

We now invite you to come and wind your way up to this secret hideaway and enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of local wine outside on the brick patio while enjoying the sunset through the trees. Take a short hike around the property or simply relax in front of the fire or enjoy the STARS from the open-air Hot Tub, the possibilities are endless here in this exceptionally clean, easy to find, well-appointed retreat.

**  LOCATION, and DISTANCE TO YOSEMITE, Etc.****
This home is in Mariposa, just five minutes outside of town (up Hwy. 140, toward Yosemite)

** 4 hours from Los Angeles
** 2.5 hours from the Greater SF Bay Area/San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento and San Jose International Airports
** 1 hour from Fresno International Airport
** 25 minutes from Yosemite National Park Boundary, 40 minutes to YOSEMITE VALLEY(and the drive is magnificent) Via the Hwy 140, Arch Rock Entrance
** 55 minutes from Yosemite's south entrance, Glacier Point, Wawona and the Giant Sequoias (Via the Hwy 41 entrance, thru Oakhurst)
** 5 minutes to town (Mariposa), 30 minutes to Oakhurst, 40 minutes to BASS LAKE.

**OF PARTICULAR IMPORTANCE** This home's driveway, unlike MANY in our rural mountain area, is located right off a quiet, paved country road, you won't be forced to navigate miles of rough, un-paved, muddy/dusty, or rutted dirt roads to reach this cabin (something to seriously consider when making your vacation rental choice).  The base-rock driveway allows for virtually any (all-wheel drive is always recommended in snow) vehicle to easily access the property year-round and the surrounding roads are quickly plowed in the case of occasional, Mariposa snowfall.

The Little Lodge sits adjacent to the small mountain community of Midpines and while ideally located for enjoying all that Yosemite and its surrounding areas have to offer, it is also perfect for folks keen on being able to just sit back, relax and enjoy themselves in their own peaceful, private paradise (and never encounter the tourists!).

When vacationing at The Little Lodge, you'll avoid both the crowds AND the traffic and yet Yosemite National Park is only a 28 mile drive away via the beautiful all weather highway which meanders through the Wild and Scenic Merced River Canyon.

The Merced River Recreation Area at Briceburg is just 8 miles away and has small, sandy beaches just perfect for picnics, wading, and summertime swimming. The river is also great for fishing, hiking, camping, wild life viewing, and for the even more adventurous, white-water rafting and kayaking. There are several commercial rafters who provide trips down portions of the river.
Guests can easily enjoy Yosemite's south entrance too which is up Hwy. 41, outside of Oakhurst.

Traveling that direction you'll find things to see and do such as the world famous Mariposa Grove's Giant Sequoias, Goat Meadow Winter Sports Area where you can let the kids play and sled in the snow, beautiful Bass Lake with it's water sports, beaches and restaurants and the historic Sugar Pine Railroad adventure, just to name a few.

Located at 3000' in elevation, The Lodge does get an occasional yet manageable amount of snow without causing difficult access or travel. There are great hills for sledding and incredible, peek-a-boo views of the distant snow capped trees and mountains beyond.

This was a wonderful get away from the big city. Yosemite is beautiful and this little lodge was the perfect little stay for our family. Animal friendly, quit, cozy, peaceful, and relaxing. We spend our evenings enjoying the fireplace and the spa. I would highly recommend the little lodge and do plan to go back yealy if possible!

Great Relaxing Getaway for Our Family

Anne (Pasadena, CA)
Review submitted: April 3, 2013   Date of arrival: August 13, 2012

My family of four stayed in the main house and used it as a "base camp" for day trips during the summer to Yosemite and Bass Lake. This was a great place for us. Kirsty took care of everything - even a bottle of wine from a nearby winery was waiting for us upon our arrival. One cherished memory of our stay there was sitting in the spa/jacuzzi in the late afternoons after our day trips and, as if on cue, a deer and her 2 fawns strolled by unfailingly. (Deer sightings not guaranteed, I'm sure!) There was plenty of space for the kids to play. They loved sleeping upstairs in the bedrooms, while we parents had privacy downstairs. We also loved the BBQ, too. We definitely had the feeling of being "away from it all" and surrounded by nature, but we had all the comforts of home at the Little Lodge. If we stay in the Yosemite area again, we hope this will be our first stop.

We Loved Little Lodge!

Travelin with Dogs (Sunnyvale, CA)
Review submitted: February 26, 2013   Date of arrival: February 15, 2013

We had a wonderful time at the Little Lodge. The things that made it special were: hottub was HOT, the way it should be, not throttled down to save a buck, the grounds were beautiful, we felt like we were in Yosemite, it's a very short drive, with no major change of scenery. Our dogs loved it, they had in/out roaming priveledges, not found elsewhere, and with the many windows, we could keep an eye on them too. The kitchen was very well equipped, and there is a strong family and children "presence" which adds to the charm. We also liked that it was far enough off the road we did not feel like our dogs were in danger of going in the road, and the privacy was 100%. The nearby town was friendly, and there is a great little museum with many really cool gold rush era items. You can even pan for gold in the creek I am told, we are saving the gold strike for next time.

Thanks for keeping a plade where we are welcome with our dogs, it was a perfect getaway! We Loved It!

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, people with disabilities, pet-friendly, sight seeing, romantic getaway
