vacation rental description

Come and enjoy one of Virginia’s and North Carolina’s best kept secrets! Lake Gaston is a clear and beautiful lake located in the Piedmont of southern Virginia and northern North Carolina. It is the last major impoundment on the Roanoke River, and offers excellent water quality and water level fluctuations that are less than one foot. It is 35 miles long and has over 350 miles of shoreline. Lake Gaston is within a four hour drive of Washington DC, an hour and a half to two hours from Raleigh North Carolina and Virginia Beach Virginia.

The property is located in the Quail Ridge subdivision on Lizard Creek, which is a major tributary on the northeast shore of the lake. Lizard Creek is a favorite with skiers and tubers because its water is usually calmer than the water on the main lake. It is also centrally located, has easy access to the main lake and is close (15-25 minutes) to three full service marinas.

A Food Lion grocery, an Ace Hardware, a Subway sandwich shop, and an indoor/outdoor flea market (Friday through Sunday) are all located less than ten minutes from the house. Thursday night, it’s bingo at the local fire hall. Restaurants are scattered around the lake and they range from diner style to more upscale. The closest large town is Roanoke Rapids, and is a 25 minutes drive from the house. There's a Belk Store, Lowes, Penney's, Super Wal-Mart, movie theater, and numerous eateries located there.

Our lake house is a comfortable, Non-Smoking, pet-free, single-level home with everything you will need to make your stay at Lake Gaston an enjoyable one. (Renters are responsible for providing their own bed linens and towels.) We have Cable TV, a video and DVD player (movies are provided), WiFi, board games, books and puzzles...everything that will provide inside entertainment for family evenings or during inclement weather.

Outside is where the real fun is! Our level lot leads to the water and the boat dock, which is the center of lake life. We have a small sandy beach that's perfect for young children, plus the water off the dock is about 5 feet deep which is great for older kids and adults. Swimming, fishing, sunbathing, and relaxing on the glider all happen right there. It’s a great place to view the beautiful evening sky and sunsets. Skiing and tubing can be started right in front of the dock.

A paddleboat is provided, and is a fun way to explore the local waters. There is a boat ramp next to the dock which makes for convenient launch and recovery. There is also a covered boat lift, plus room for a boat of up to 25 foot to be tied up to the dock.

Besides the water sports, fishing is excellent at Lake Gaston! Available species include striped bass, largemouth bass, crappie, perch, sunfish, and our favorite dinner fish, channel catfish. Fishing from the dock is a favorite pastime for both young and old alike. Early mornings and evenings are usually better, but when is fishing not good?  We want to remind our guests that it's necessary to have a NC or VA fishing license, even if just fishing off the dock (obtainable online from the Dept of Fish and Game).

Lastly, one of the best pastimes at the lake is RELAXING! Whether it be enjoying the view, reading a book, or napping in the shade on our wonderful hammock. There is something about the lake that lets you leave everyday stress behind for awhile. This  is what we most enjoy about our lake house. We invite you to come and see for yourselves.

P.S. Spring and fall are great times to enjoy Lake Gaston. The water is warm, the scenery is grand, and it feels like your own private lake.

P.P.S. We respond to each inquiry within 48 hours.  If you feel that you haven't heard from us, please be sure to check your 'spam' mail...thanks!

Great Vacation!

r3dsox1 (chesapeake, VA)
Review submitted: September 6, 2012   Date of arrival: July 30, 2012

My husband, our 17 and 12 year old daughters and I stayed at the Rogel’s Lake House 7/28/12 – 8/3/12. We had a wonderful time. The house was very nice and roomy. The pictures on the website don’t do it justice. The house had Wi-Fi and Cable TV – didn’t lose signal once. The house was very clean with comfortable beds, comfy couch, and nice shaded back deck for sitting out in afternoon. The boat dock was nice, we fished off the dock and even caught a couple of fish. There were sunny spots of the boat dock for laying out and shade for those who wanted to stay out of the sun. The weather was great – not too hot which we worried about being so late in July. The lake water temperature was perfect. We brought three rafts with us and spent a lot of time just lounging in the water. We enjoyed taking the paddle boat out a couple of times. Food Lion and a few different restaurants were close, which was nice – giving us options for eating out or eating in. All of the restaurants and the Food Lion were on the main road which was nice, didn’t have to worry about wrong turns or getting lost. My girls and I went Bingo night at the Fire House and even won some money, it was fun!! In closing, we all had a very nice relaxing vacation. Thanks for letting us stay at your Lake House!!

Great Stay!

Review submitted: June 1, 2012   Date of arrival: May 23, 2012

Thank you for letting us share your home with us.

We had an incredibly good time and were really surprised at how wonderful everything about it was.

I do a couple of online vacations each year and most are pleasant and some are a little scary. Your home is at the top of the list and we'd love to come back for a week next time.

Saturday was like a war zone out there! The other days were great with the lake pretty much to ourselves. Your ramp was a real plus, kitchen was real nice, info book complete (and some!) and the deck was awesome to sit back and relax. I'd have to rate yours at the top of the list!

I hope you found the home in the same condition you left it and will let us share it again.

Thanks again.

Super Great Place to Stay and Fish

Review submitted: May 22, 2012   Date of arrival: May 16, 2012

We stayed here for several days and had a fantastic time! Everything was perfect. The house is spotless and has absolutely everything you need. The owners are beyond great and there at a moment's call. The dock was fun to sit on and fish, drink a glass of wine in the evening and just enjoy. There is a paddle boat, boat ramp, boat lift and on and on. Deck of house is huge - great for cooking out on the gas grill provided - home is bright with large windows and sliding glass doors of the living and master bedroom - facing the lake. It is fantastic. We have stayed several place on the lake before but never gone back to any of them - we will be back here that is for sure! I caught a huge catfish from the dock - my husband caught the dock - HA! It could not be better! Loved every minute.
