traveler reviews for this newport house rental

Great cottage in fantastic location

moby melville (sarasota FL USA)
Review submitted: August 24, 2010   Date of arrival: July 2, 2010

We are repeat renters and for good reason. The cottage is in a terrific location in Newport: 2 blocks from Kings Park which is adjacent to the harbor, and a 5 minute walk to lower Thames Street where there are shops and famous restaurants. The front door of the house also opens out onto a sweet neighborhood park which is used by dog walkers, pedestrians, soccer players, and other local characters.

Ed and Biddy are great to rent from without being intrusive. The house is spotless when we arrive and Biddy and Ed are always updating things in our absence which we appreciate. Plus, the house feels like a home instead of a "rental unit." It is well-stocked with kitchen equipment, cleaning supplies, linens, pillows, comfortable furniture, and most importantly, reading lamps. With all these thoughtful comforts, it is easy to feel like you are "living" in Newport instead of "visiting" Newport.

Recommended for: age 55+, sight seeing, tourists without a car

Owners response: We hope to please and make comfortable all our clients. We know what we like to find when we rent a vacation property, and we try to provide the same. Many people comment on the house location, they seem to really enjoy stepping out of the front door and seeing the harbour at the end of the block [just 4 houses down]. We look forward to welcoming back re-visiting clients, and any new ones!

Cozy, charming, super location

Review submitted: February 13, 2010   Date of arrival: August 1, 2009

I rented this lovely little cottage for the month of August 2009. The owners have done a super job renovating. The kitchen is entirely wood - floors, counters, cabinets. It's like a sailboat galley, but with lots of windows and counterspace. There are 2 bedrooms upstairs - a guest room for 2 in the front of the house and a "master suite" in the back overlooking the garden. This consists of a nice little sitting room and then the bedroom is beyond that with windows on 3 sides. The house has A/C boxes, but I never used it. There's great cross-ventilation and sky windows in both bedrooms. The backyard is beautiful -- nice porch with a gas grill and a beautiful garden, testimony to Bridget's British green thumb. The location of the house is perfect - walking distance to town and mansions, biking distance to beaches. I cannot recommend this charming place, or its owners, more highly.
