vacation rental description

So glad we happened to find this place while surfing the web. We had a wonderful stay, everything was perfect."

Secretly set near Yosemite, this spectacular, 1200 sq ft, custom built Tri-Level creekside home is hidden away on eight secluded acres and is ideally located between two different entrances to Yosemite National Park, both well under an hour away. SierraScape's central location is ideal for enjoying all of Yosemite however many of our guests say that once they’ve been there, they want to simply stay put, basking in the beauty and seclusion here without ever having to leave the property. Yosemite is so close, and yet so far…

"My Husband and I had a wonderful time exploring Yosemite and then relaxing together here at the cabin. We loved the privacy, quiet, and all of nature's sounds at night. A wonderful place for honeymooners. Thank You!"

Unique and intriguing architecture add much to the ambience of this amazing place that comfortably accommodates from Two, to Four guests.  SierraScape is beautifully furnished with an eclectic mix of comfort and style, has a FULLY-equipped kitchen with EVERY convenience, large, beautifully done bedrooms as well as the most incredible outdoor patio, a real treat!

"When we arrived, we thought we'd died and gone to Heaven, when we departed, we knew we'd found Heaven on Earth...WHAT a PLACE!" 2/27/11

THE LIVING and DINING AREAS

SierraScape’s living room has beautiful Oak flooring, high, open-beam ceilings and includes a reclining sofa and several comfortable chairs, the incredible stone fireplace (firewood provided), Stereo system w/iPod port,  TV w/DVD/VCR and extensive satellite channels, including HBO. There is an abundance of board games, an interesting collection of books and novels as well as direct access out the French doors, leading directly out onto the back deck area and full-size SPA.

This room sits adjacent to the sunny dining area and just beyond that, the arched entrance leads you into the well-stocked, fully-equipped kitchen with modern appliances, gas stove, refrigerator, double stainless sink with plumbed, purified RO drinking water, Granite countertops, dishwasher, microwave, multiple windows and a BEAUTIFUL view...

“Every single thing we thought of to use in that kitchen you HAD!”

A Full-size washer and dryer can be found in the closet, off the hallway and for your convenience, we also provide earth-friendly laundry soap and even a drying rack for those of you who would like one.  The washer and dryer are available to all our guests, regardless of the duration of their stay.

THE BEDROOMS and BATHS

The large, Main Bedroom is located on the second level and has open-beam, cathedral ceilings &
skylight, a Queen-size bed, loveseat, a vanity/sink and a side door that opens onto its own private deck, leading down to the hot tub.

The Room With a View is located on the third level, at one the of the catwalk and also has high, open-beam ceilings, a King-size bed, a beautiful view and French doors that lead out onto a private balcony, overlooking the creek.

"The sound of the water flowing in that creek, drifting through the French Door screen while we were sleeping was so tranquil and renewing, we could have stayed here forever"

The upstairs, half-bath is also located along the catwalk, just steps away from The Room With a View.   Both bedrooms are beautifully outfitted with both modern & antique furniture as well as comfortable, quality beds.  Each room has a ceiling fan, a sitting/reading area and writing desk, adding to the comfort and solitude of each individual space.

Located on the first floor is the unique, full bathroom with an open, 6' tile shower that has dual shower heads, multiple windows and private, distant views. It also has a large soaking tub with great views of the private surroundings!  Conveniently, this main bathroom is accessible from common living space as is the half-bath upstairs so no traipsing through someone else's bedroom on your way to the loo ;-)..

And OUTSIDE…

You’ll find the incredible, multi-level Sunny Garden Deck that is absolutely, positively fantastic. This extensive area overlooks the boulder filled ITALIAN CREEK and surrounding hills and leads past the spa, up to the garden gate that leads you down a short path, right to the water's edge.

The full-size SPA is transcendent.  It is sunken so is easy to get in and out of, exceptionally well-kept, available ALL YEAR LONG and is incredibly inviting and while just 10 or so steps from the living room door, it is virtually in another world, decadently perched over the creek and under the wide-open sky that is at one moment the bluest of blues and the next, an incredible orange with the sun setting slowly over the trees.  Wait a while longer and experience the immense night sky where the constellations abound and the stars go shooting by.

"Regardless of how stressed one may be, if they cannot get their mind in a better place sitting out on your deck and listening to nature, they need professional help."

There are two separate outdoor table and chair combinations as well as lounge furniture, a vine covered trellis and full feeders that attract a wide variety of birds,(you'll likely see any or all the resident hawks, clever Ravens and giant Birds of Prey as well as oodles of Hummingbirds, yellow Finches, Juncos, Towhees and more!...yes, we also provide a bird guide ;-).

Right outside the French doors you'll find the clean Gas Grill and an abundance of flowering pots and native plants that will surround you, gold pans are also provided for those who would like to try their hand at striking it rich in the creek. ;-)

ITALIAN CREEK is significant, the boulders creating it are magnificent and great for exploring and just 30' downstream from the house is the waterfall, it is amazing to see in the winter and spring!  The creek is seasonal however there is water running in it six to eight months out of the year and there are small, grassy pools amongst the rocks, year-round.

"We all had so much fun playing in that creek, swimming, sunbathing, adding to the Balanced Rock formations and panning for gold that we never even made it into Yosemite!"

**  LOCATIONLOCATION, LOCATION... and DISTANCES TO YOSEMITE, Etc. ;-) **
This home is in Mariposa, just ten minutes from town.

** 4 hours from Los Angeles
** 2.5  hours from the Greater SF Bay Area/San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento and San Jose International Airports.
** 1 hour from Fresno International Airport
** 35 min from Yosemite National Park boundary, 50 min to YOSEMITE VALLEY (via Hwy 140, the Arch Rock Entrance)
** 50 min from Yosemite's South entrance (via Hwy 41), Glacier Point, Wawona and the Giant Sequoias
** 10 min to town (Mariposa), 25 min to Oakhurst, 35 minutes to Bass Lake

**OF PARTICULAR IMPORTANCE**
This home's driveway, unlike MANY in our rural mountain area, is accessed right off a quiet, PAVED country road, something to seriously consider when choosing a vacation rental as you'll likely be making the trip many times... you won't have to navigate miles of steep, rough, un-paved, muddy/dusty or rutted dirt roads to reach this vacation rental (that is completely hidden) and the long, gravel driveway allows for virtually any car, in any weather to easily access the property.

While SierraScape is ideally located for enjoying all that Yosemite and its surrounding areas have to offer, it is also perfect for folks keen on being able to just sit back, relax and enjoy themselves in their own private paradise (and never encounter the tourists!).

SierraScape sits well off Hwy 49 just nine easy miles south of the historic Gold Rush town of Mariposa and is ideally located in between two different entrances to Yosemite National Park, both well under an hour away. These two entrance routes (via Highway 140 or Highway 41) offer a myriad of terrific activities and attractions along the way to the park.

Hwy 140, the scenic “all weather highway”, meanders through the Wild and Scenic Merced River Canyon and takes you directly into Yosemite Valley, through the “Arch Rock” entrance.  The Merced River Recreation Area at Briceburg is just a 14 drive from The Scape and has small, sandy beaches just perfect for picnics, wading, and summertime swimming. The river is also great for fishing, hiking, camping, wild life viewing, and for the even more adventurous, white-water rafting and kayaking.  Incredible, guided rafting trips down various portions of the river can be arranged in advance through our local, commercial rafting excursion provider.

Traveling in the other direction, up Hwy. 41 outside of Oakhurst will lead you to the southern entrance into Yosemite where you’ll find things to do and see such as the world famous Mariposa Grove’s Giant Sequoias, Glacier Point, Badger Pass Ski Area, Goat Meadow Winter Sports Area where you can cross-country ski or let the kids play and sled in the snow and of course beautiful BASS LAKE with its water sports, beaches and restaurants.  In addition, there are some fantastic hiking trails (many that welcome dogs) and the historic Sugar Pine Railroad adventure, a really fun thing to do as a family!

Closer to home you can enjoy downtown Mariposa's historic charm, its art galleries, antique and gift shops as well as the California State Mining Exhibit and the Mariposa Gold Country Museum, both of which are WELL worth visiting. You can see California's oldest operating courthouse here, or tour our local wineries and taste some of the area's award-winning mountain wines.

SierraScape is exceptionally well-suited for couples, small families, and friends traveling together so come and enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of local wine outside on the deck and enjoy the STARS or the sunrise over the hills from the comfort of the full-size, open-air hot tub. Take a short hike around the property or simply relax in front of the fire here in this exceptionally clean, easy to find, well-appointed paradise, we look forward to perhaps hearing from you soon.

Relaxing and Homey

A D. ()
Review submitted: May 15, 2013   Date of arrival: April 20, 2013

we stayed with another couple in Sierrascape, a lovely three bedroom home outside of Mariposa set in the woods above a little brook. in april the brook is running (i understand it is dry later in the year) and the rocky hillside down is covered in lupines. there is a multi level deck overlooking it with lots of seating areas, a gas grill and hot tub (which comes in very handy after a day of hiking in Yosemite). the deck is charmingly decorated and a great place to have coffee in the morning and listen to the brook. inside, the kitchen is the best equipped and stocked kitchen we have ever had. Kirsty and Jerry have thought of everything. condiments and spices are all provided as are many of the other little things you forget to pick up at the grocery store. there is a flat screen tv in the living room with movies provided and a beautiful fireplace (very handy for cool nights). the beds are comfortable with plenty of towels provided. it is about an hour along a beautiful ride to the heart of yosemite and a perfect place to come back to at the end of the day. Kirsty and Jerry have stocked the house with many books about the area including hike books of yosemite and they also put together a very helpful and thoughtful binder containing lots of information about the area and things to do. making reservations was very easy and they are great to deal with. the house was very clean. very good internet service and there are house phones as here like many mountain areas cell service is spotty at best. we had a great time and would highly recommend it.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at SierraScape!

Dave (Torrance, CA)
Review submitted: April 4, 2013   Date of arrival: March 17, 2013

After researching and comparing several rental homes online in preparation for our family trip to Yosemite, we chose SierraScape. We could not have been happier with our selection! The owners, Kirsty and Jerry, were great to deal with.

The home is very nicely decorated, comfortable, and well stocked and we instantly felt at home. The beds were all comfortable, the baths are more than adequate, and the tub and shower are huge. The river rock fireplace gives the living space a cozy, cabin-like ambiance.

One great feature is that the property is large and you see no other houses from SierraScape. While there are homes nearby, you feel secluded and out in nature. We saw a bobcat, wild turkey, and lots of birds. The feeders on the deck attracted many species of brightly colored small birds throughout the day.

While the kitchen is relatively small, it had everything we needed and more. We enjoyed the kitchen and dining area so much that we threw out the plans to try the local restaurants and fixed breakfast at home every morning. We also packed lunches for our daily trip into Yosemite which proved a very good idea because many of the eateries within the park were closed for the season. We did go out for dinner twice after long days of hiking and found that Mariposa has good restaurants just a few minutes' drive from SierraScape.

The decks at SierraScape have amazing views of the seasonal creek which was full with the Spring run off. The sounds of the cascading water was soothing while we relaxed and read on the deck. The barbecue looks to be new and we used it to cook an excellent dinner. The jacuzzi was also great - we enjoyed viewing the starry sky while relaxing in it every night before bed.

Kirsty and Jerry have compiled an amazing notebook at SierraScape that has everything you need to enjoy the Yosemite and Gold Country area. It also has all the instructions for the home to make your stay as easy and comfortable as possible.

When we go back to Yosemite, SierraScape will definitely be our first choice for lodging!

A home away from home far from home

Lisa H. (Los Angeles, CA.)
Review submitted: January 24, 2013   Date of arrival: January 16, 2013

I chose this property on the internet - as I'm sure many do - and I saw the multitude of pictures of this property, yet still filled in my own impressions as to what it might be like. I must say, that I still could not have imagined a place so warm and inviting. The house was already warm on a cold day, with music playing and the fire in the fireplace was all set up, just waiting for a match.

This house is a home. It may not be MY home, but every detail and every corner has been treated with love and care, just waiting for it's invited guests. Coming from LA, it was a lovely counterpoint to our noisy, stressful lives. The only 'noise' comes from a creek that runs under the property, to which the photos provided do not do it justice. It is so lovely to wake up, bring your coffee outside onto this lovely, large deck and hear the water cascading down the meandering rocks.

There is not one thing that this cabin lacked. Every detail from cleaning supplies, to spices, to board games, to hiking guides is all provided. I honestly did not come up with one thing that wasn't there that we needed. The beds are comfortable and there is extra everything, blankets, towels, dishes.

We were there to primarily visit Yosemite in winter, we were provided careful maps and guides, plus suggestions in nearby Mariposa and Oakhurst with regard to groceries and restaurants, plus history books so that we could gain a better understanding of the area. We still had to touch base from time to time and were really happy there was wi-fi in the house.

The overall ambiance is one of cabin/country charm. If you are looking for something more modern and streamlined, a cabin in the woods probably isn't the place for you anyway. But if you want a place where you can get up and make your own breakfast then nestle into a comfortable chair outside to read and chill, then this will be the perfect place.

It is a cozy, wonderful home and both Kirsty and Jerry - the owners - are so warm and accommodating that you will feel as we did upon leaving; counting the days until you can return.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet-friendly, sight seeing, romantic getaway
