Drake Cottage Wellesley Island, Thousand Island Park in Thousand Island Park

Return to an era of gracious family vacations that began in the Victorian era. This quaint
community was established in 1875 as a destination resort on Wellesley Island. The homes are
original, the ambiance serene. There is a small grocery store, a Victorian
hotel with fine dinning inside or on a porch overlooking the St. Lawrence River. And then
there is The Guzzle. Here is an ice cream parlor that serves meals all day long in addition
to fabulous ice cream delights and huge ice cream cones. It is a favorite of adults and
children alike. The Tabernacle provides two services on Sundays. On Monday, Wednesday,
Friday and Saturday you can enjoy movies.

Our cottage has a spacious interior and a large, wrap around SCREENED IN PORCH. There are rocking
chairs, a glider, a porch swing, and a picnic table. There is a distant view of the River.
This is a perfect place for relaxing, conversing, reading, eating, and
enjoying the serenity you seek in your time away from the outside world.

The ground floor includes a living room(cable TV),a dinning room, kitchen, a den(cable TV, and a
half bath with a washer/dryer. The kitchen has glass top stove, refrigerator/freezer, table/chairs,
and a pantry. You will find staples, and all the accoutrements for meal preparation as well as a
microwave and coffee maker. In the back yard is a large gas grill. A lot behind the
cottage provides parking and easy access for carrying in groceries and unloading the car.

The second floor has 4 bedrooms with a king size bed, 2 queens, and a double.
There are 2 twins on the landing at the top of the stairs. There is a large bathroom with a
shower and a clawfoot tub. All the bedrooms are pleasingly decorated for comfort and
quiet.

Thousand Island Park is the perfect place for a family vacation. There is "story hour" mornings
at the Library for the younger children and a park with swings, slides, and other fun
equipment. Enjoy 4 tennis courts and a half basketball court. The large green area
overlooking the River offers organized sports activities each morning for children of all
ages. There is a swimiing cove at the entrance to the Park. Splash in the shallow area or
swim to the raft in the clear water. The Main Dock is a gathering place where guests can
fsh or swim. You can relax with a cup of coffee while viewing the Main Channel from the
restored Pavilion. Tanker ships will pass by heading to the Great Lakes or returning to the
Atlantic. Play golf at any of the 3 courses on the Island. Boat tours around the island will
surprise you with the vast beauty of the area. Marinas will rent you boats. A visit to Boldt Castle
is a must. The towns of Alexandria Bay and Clayton on the mainland host shopping for
art, antiques, and tourist memorabilia. Easy access to Canada offers more exploration. Families
can visit Ottawa to enjoy tours of Parliment, the Children's Science Musuem, art museums and
many other points of interest. Greater Canada village is a period replica of life in Ontario
circa 1865 with 40 buildings and period costumes. You will not be bored on
