Charlotte's Pearl in Dewees Island

Charlotte's Pearl is a pristine barrier island retreat on Dewees
Island. The ferry access island is dedicated to the preservation of
the natural coastal environment. Plentiful wildlife includes deer,
migrating and wading birds, raccoons, rabbits and otters. Eighty
percent of the 1200 acre island is untouched by development. Our
home is located on a 2 1/4 acre lot with plenty of privacy. It is
located at the edge of the marsh and maritime forest overlooking
Lake Timacau. Ours is one of only 60 homes on the island and only
150 lots will ever be sold. Our second row home is located near a
beach access path and is an easy walk or golf cart ride to the
beach.  The community pool and tennis courts available to you are an easy golf cart ride away.  Dewees Island's 2 1/2 mile long beach is known as one of the finest in the Southeast. Often you find yourselves the only ones on the beach. You will feel worlds away from the stress you left behind. However, you
are only 11 miles from historic downtown Charleston's great
restaurants and shopping.

The custom built house was finished in 2001 using an inverted
floorplan, which places the living areas and wraparound covered
screened porch on the top level and the bedrooms on the lower
level. The ground level features a shower, screened fishing station
and parking for the golf carts. The rooftop observation deck
provides magnificent views of the ocean, intercoastal waterway,
nextdoor Capers Island, Lake Timacau and marsh. Other amenities
include: elevator, two heat pumps, two master bedrooms, every
bedroom opens to a covered screened porch, hardwood floors, satelite
tv, vcr, dvd, stereo with speakers on the porch, hammock, gas grill
(BBQ), two golf carts, outdoor shower, phone, washer &dryer,
dishwasher, completely equipped kitchen, microwave, 10 person
dining table, futon on porch, rocking chairs, beach chairs, linens,
blankets, pillows and towels. No smoking. No pets.

When people first come to Dewees they ask "what is there to do
here?" When they leave they often say "we did not have enough time
to do all the things we wanted to do." The fishing and crabbing are
great from the several docks, two lakes and tidal creeks on the
island. The Huyler House is the center of the community and its ammenities are available to you as a guest on the Island.  It is a wonderful lodge which has a great pool, tennis courts, canoes, nature center, wet lab, and birding observation shelter. Walking or biking on the several miles of hard packed sand roads is great excercise. You can rent jet skis, or boats next to the Dewees
Island marina on Isle of Palms. Beachcombing is a must. It is
wonderful to explore the island on golf carts, especially at
sunset.
