perfect family get away

Review submitted: July 20, 2014   Date of arrival: July 5, 2014

Our family of 5 just came home from our 11th year staying at this Spider Lake Cottage. Our first year the kids were 1, 3 and 5 yrs. old, now they are all teens. We absolutely love it. There is plenty of space in the cottage, everything we could possibly need and beautiful views of the lake. The new kitchen is a wonderful added bonus. Down at the beach it is clean, peaceful, the water is warm. There are plenty of activities including the row boat, kayak, water trampoline, fire pit, fishing and just hanging out on the beach or new deck. There are many things to do nearby ie. downtown Traverse City, canoeing on the Manistee River (I would recommend Chippewa Landing because its not crowded) and lots of hiking. We love the "Beautiful Spider Lake" cottage and plan to come every summer!

Gorgeous cottage but beware of controlling owner

Review submitted: July 20, 2013   Date of arrival: July 6, 2013

I had to admit, the cottage is beautiful and very well maintained. The queen beds are very comfortable and the kitchen is awesome! I wouldn't however, recommend the cottage if you have young children or don't like steps. The cottage has beautiful white carpet so you have to be very careful as to not get it dirty. No shoes are allowed inside! Also, it is precisely 93 steps down to the water/small beach area. For kids the beach is not ideal because the nice sand is two feet above the water and the fire pit and several chairs take up much of the space. Also be sure to read the lease in full, if you are going to have anyone "not on the lease" stop by "if even for a few hours" you must submit a letter in writing to the owner prior to arrival for approval from the owner. She has several people reporting to her what you are doing throughout the week and if you are lucky enough the owner may stop by because they notice a few cars in the drive way or even drive by real slow staring. We left the place immaculate, which I'm sure was not expected, but when the owner checked the garbage after we left and saw beer cans and liquor bottles we were accused of turning the cottage into a "party house"! Couldn't be further from the truth since 2 of us were pregnant and we have a two year old. Who knew drinking on vacation was "frowned upon in this establishment"!
Needless to say, if you are looking for a beautiful, modern cottage with a great sandy lake this is the place...unless you DONT like being spied on your entire stay.

Owners response: I appreciate the guest's comments.
The cottage does have steps to the beach and the carpeting is beige. The cottage is on a septic system and that is why extra guests become an issue.
I do encourage anyone who rents any cottage to read the lease to make sure they can live within the rules.
If you are looking for a nice place to stay that is clean and comfortable, please call.

Home Away From Home

Review submitted: October 14, 2012   Date of arrival: October 7, 2012

We've stayed at several rental properties and this was by far the best. We tend to cook more meals in than eat out and I found the kitchen had absolutely every thing (and more!) I needed, including spices! The outdoor gas grill is a real plus also. The home is very nicely decorated with that "up north" feel. I was surprised at how spacious and comfortable it was. I really appreciated the wi-fi service and LAN line. At times my getaways must include some work time and once again, I had everything I needed to do this. Traverse City was really busy during the time we were there and we loved the fact that we were so close to all that was going on but each day when we arrived back at "home", we were away from the crowds in such a quiet, peaceful setting. There is so much to do in the area, we needed much more than a week to see/do it all. The view of the lake from the house was fantastic and we loved sleeping in the loft and hearing the rain on the sky lights. I haven't slept that good in ages! It was great to have the fire pit down at the beach. I wish the weather had been better for us to go out in the rowboat! Lastly, I must comment on the cleanliness of the home when we arrived. One of my pet peeves is arriving on vacation and spending the first day cleaning it to make it livable. This was not the case at this home. My thanks to the owner for sharing such a clean, comfortable home for our vacation. We will definitely be back!

Owners response: Thank you.
