Great Location, Not Much Else

Home was well-stocked with linens, tableware and cookware. The iPod system in the kitchen was nice too. The home also had a nice gas fire place. However, I would avoid for off-season renting due to a lack of amenities for the price charged. I would avoid renting from this owner again period, due to the unpleasant nature of the owner.

The exterior, inside furniture, hot tub and master bedroom seem to be the majority of the owner's investment. The dated, small refrigerator kept items near room temperature. The other appliances worked but were dated as well. The dated televisions (still had a VCR) so no HD or gaming systems (for kids) without adapters. The handful of board games and puzzles seemed to come from a yard sale as the date on the boxes was 1978. The home has no A/C and the WiFi did not work. Their is no gas grill and the patio furniture had cobwebs, bird droppings and grime. The hot tub was newer and large but lacked maintenance as the walls were slimy and the water was opaque. There are only three beds with box springs. So unless beds are shared, other guests will be sleeping on the couch or on the two extra single mattress on the floor. The lodge nearby serves bar food that is average at best and even on a Friday night had 15 patrons max in the bar area.

The owner has excessively placed labels on everything to include categorizing glasses and labeling the shower to indicate wet bathing suits go inside. Owner also mails a stringent set of instructions before rental to include conflicting instructions on trash. It tells you to place the trash in the utility room and it also instructs to drive your trash to a shopping center dumpster in Davis (which is about 10 miles away). You are also required to purchase soap and other toiletries for the next guests. The owner charges a security deposit (not mentioned in ad). Though instructions say to place used towels in laundry room for cleaning staff, owner tried to keep security deposit because "all but three towels were used" and the trash was placed in utility room (which was supposed to be OK). Owner also complained about multiple vehicles, even though there is no rule against this in any literature. Despite owners reassurance, Verizon, Sprint and ATT phones did not get reception.

For the price charged, there are plenty of other homes for rent in the area that are probably stocked with nice amenities and reasonable owners. Would not rent again. Probably OK if you are retired.

Recommended for: age 55+

Owners response: This is a case of a younger group, who we were hesitant on renting to because of their age, being upset with us keeping their deposit. They mentioned that we did not tell them about deposit. Why would we have had a separate "deposit check", from them, if we did not mention it? Also, in 10 years of renting this property, our cleaning staff said they have never seen our home left in this condition. The staff mentioned, that they passed the house on a number of occasions, and there were 8 to 10 cars in the driverway. This is not a party house for younger "adults", and it was clear to the renters ahead of time. This is a family rental. Please read the description and judge yourself. Thank you for your interest in our home.

My family and I were blessed to share some quality time in this wonderful home. The home was so warm and cozy and it "invited" us in with a warm hug and smile. This is an EXCELLENT place to go and get away with family and loved ones to share some quality time sharing, loving, laughing and making wonderful memories. From the great decor, ample space, outdoor hot tub and scenery, this home was truly a piece of heaven on earth. There were games, movies and great outdoor space to enjoy the company you were with. The owners of this property are to be commended for all the beauty and grace that their property offers. My family and I look forward to returning again and again as it is like "coming home". If you want to share quality time with special people and make amazing memories, THIS is the getaway for you...it is DEFINITELY a way to relax and get away from the everyday hustle and bustle of life and get back to what is most important, life and the beauty and splendor of it and nature. After staying in this home, I truly know why it is said "Almost Heaven, West Virginia"!

Recommended for: age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway
