Drift to sleep to the sound of the bell buoy marking Pumpkin Knob;
watch the stars through the
skylights in 3 bedrooms. Goldfinches visit the front deck, and
occasionally we have an itinerant
hummingbird or two. Surrounded by woods on three sides, water in
front, this is as good as it gets!

activities and attractions in Peaks Island Maine
Peaks Island offers birding, walking around the island (only about 5
miles circumference), beaches,
rocks, oceanside picnic areas, old WW2 forts, fishing, and kayaking.
Portland is a thriving city,
and summer visitors enjoy fine restaurants, day-boats, great shopping
in the Old Port Exchange and
elsewhere. Portland Museum of Art is home to wonderful exhibits, both
permanent and traveling, and
there are many galleries both on the island and in town. The ferry
ride to Peaks from Portland is a
fun activity that everyone enjoys. The Casco Bay Lines ferry
service offers excursions to
other islands and several cruises just for fun, some with live
music. The water is cold, but hardy souls do swim in it. There are several beaches nearby, and picnicing on the Atlantic rocky coast is a popular treat. The island market, Hannigan's, offers sandwiches, pizza, wonderful meats and veggies, and generous wine, beer and liquor selections. The Cockeyed Gull and The Inn at Peaks are both excellent restaurants, and The Inn is frequently the site of beautiful weddings and other parties. Peaks is a fun place to be!
