House Description

This beautiful ocean front beach house “CASA TORTUGA”, named after
witnessing the birth of these incredible creatures under a
spectacular Yucatan sunrise on the first morning of our stay in this
beautiful enchanting land.

The house is located in the peaceful genuine fishing village of
Chuburna, 20 mins from the port of Progresso and 40 mins from the
Capitol of the Yucatan State, Merida [The White City]. The house has
an open floor plan that flows to the outdoor porch and terrazzo,
making it the perfect place to relax and entertain. Designed to
emphasize the spectacular ocean views and surroundings, it has
everything you’ll need to enjoy your stay. The living room and
kitchen have an open floor, similar to an American one. The living-
family room set-up is nicely decorated with colorful rattan furniture
in a contemporary Caribbean classy simplicity, which works perfectly
with the outdoors. Also has a bar [liquor not included] with
colorful glasses, and giant liquor bottles [for display only]. As
you come into the house, in the center of the room is a mini
lighthouse for your pleasure, light it up at night and enjoy the
display. Wake up to beautiful sunrises at your door step, have
breakfast on the terrazzo or go for an afternoon walk and enjoy the
sunsets. It will express it’s openness to a care free, relaxing
interaction between nature and space. It will make your stay a truly
enjoyable and memorable one.

Property Amenities

In the house you will find all the comforts and necessities you will
need to make your stay enjoyable and hassle-free. It is designed to
take full advantage of the 180 degree stunning view of the ocean as
well. As to embrace the beautiful Yucatan landscape, it offers you:

Open porch and terraza, as well as a private enclosed beach access
off the porch.

Also included for outside enjoyment are:
Beautiful swimming pool, which lights up at night for a
relaxing ambiance
3 Antique rocking chairs

Table w/umbrella and chairs for poolside
3 barstools for the outdoor bar next to the pool
iron and ironing board

satellite-cable in bedroom
cisterna for hot water
washer and dryer

Also for the outside area, there is a Palatal with stairs leading to
it. It is great to sit and look at the wonderful and breath-taking
sunsets and to watch the stars in the evening.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all you will need, from stove to
silverware. There is even bottled water that is filtered. There is
a large Wal-Mart in Merida where you can stock up on supplies. The
kitchen table seats 6. There is also a CD player and TV/DVD in the
kitchen. There is also a living room nicely decorated with a bar.

There are two bedrooms in the house. Both bedrooms have a double bed
and dressing table in each room. The one on the left has a Jacuzzi
tub, there is also a TV and DVD player with satellite cable. There
are plenty linen and towels. The other bedroom on the right has a
shower and has the access door to the outside which you will come and
go. Please use this door if you leave the property for any length of
time. Both bedrooms have hooks for hanging hammocks, though there is
only one on the property.

There is another room off the house which houses the laundry machines
and also has a third bed.

Activities

Make the house and the town of Chuburna your headquarters to explore
the mystery and beauty of the Yucatan Peninsula, also the sites of
the “White City” of Merida. The splendid Mayan Ruins of Chichen
Itza, Xmal, Ek Balam, and the closest Dzibilchaltun and the
surrounding beaches.

Visit Progresso, the Mayan port of the Yucatan Peninsula, 18 miles
north of Merida [15 mins from the house]. In Progreso you will find
craft markets, restaurants, shops and the largest Malecon [pier] in
the world. Take a 30 min drive to Merida along the Ave Montejo,
where you’ll find restaurants, shopping as well a established stores
from the U.S., i.e.; Costco, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Office Depot and
more. You can find everything you could possibly need to spend a
week or two on the beach. Also, 5 mins from the house, you’ll find a
nice restaurant where you can buy food to go and there are several
convenience stores to buy bread and other items.

We have left maps and books for you to read about Merida and its
sights. If you just want to relax and enjoy the peace and
tranquility of the Yucatan, going for walks, a swim, read a book or
enjoy the sunsets, what ever you need to make your stay enjoyable and
relaxing, the house will offer you this and more. If you need
anything else just let Miguel [the caretaker] know.
