Special Secluded Cottage 3 Min Walk to Long Pond in Belgrade Lakes

A wonderful secluded cottage surrounded by trees yet very close to
Long Pond, the finest of the Belgrade Lakes, known for its pristine
water for swimming, boating and fishing. The third largest of the
Belgrade Lakes it is 12 miles long and covers 2,557 acres, We are
retired academics (Colby College/U of Michigan & Bowdoin college) and
picked this beautiful spot because it is quiet (away from too noisy
vacationers) for reading, writing, and relaxing as well as the usual
lake activities. Most of the year we live in busy London, England. The
bargain rental rate is because the cottage is not ON the lake, just a
3 minute walk away.
Our place is part of a large private association that has a boat dock
and sandy beach on Long Pond. The dock is a 3 minute walk and the
swimming beach is a 8 minute walk from the cottage along a well
maintained dirt road. One advantage of being near, but
not on the lake, and surrounded by beautiful forest is that we are
constantly visited by friendly wildlife: birds, chipmunks, the
occasional deer, a wandering flock of wild turkeys, etc.
And of course we can hear the wonderful sound of the loons in the
evenings.

Although rustic looking, this modern cottage is only 20 years old and can sleep up to 7. There are two upstairs bedrooms, one with a new king size bed, the other with 2 new regular size beds. A new fold out couch is in the living room, and a cot with mattress is in the front porch room. We are 1 hour drive from the Portland, Maine Jetport, 3 hours from Boston, 5 hours from New York, and 5 hours from Quebec, Canada. All the amenities and local towns & activities are listed below. If you wish to bring a pet please email the details (age, size, disposition, trained, etc). The yard is not fenced & visited by deer, turkeys, etc.

* There are 2 upstairs bedrooms, one with 2 single beds, the other with a large king size bed with a tempur-pedic mattress. There is a queen size fold out couch in the living room and a futon in the front  enclosed porch. All have blankets & pillows.
* Sizable outside backyard deck w a table, lounge chairs, and a
charcoal grill (bbq)
* Tree shaded front yard (parking for 3 cars and/or a boat) and a
very nice grass backyard.(see photo)
* Lawn maintenance is provided

*Private sandy swimming beach with a floating dock.
* There are 2 playgrounds with equipment for kids; one at the
swimming beach and another about 3 minutes from the cottage
*motor or sail boating. Boats and tackle can be rented on Long pond
from Castle Island Camps (5 minutes by car). Also there are boat
rental & Sea plane rides at Great Pond (13 min by car).
*fishing (famous for bass/pike/lake trout & land locked salmon)
Tackle as well as bait can be purchased at Day’s village store in
Belgrade Village (see below)
* Golfing - there are several courses in the area. Belgrade Lakes
Golf Club, voted in top 5 best public courses in the US, is just 10
min by car
* there are many hiking trails (detailed map at Day’s store)
* Horseback Riding - riding lessons at Rome Horse Farm.
* Berry Picking - fun activity. In addition to finding berries close
by, there are several fruit farms in the area for strawberry,
blueberry & raspberry and apple picking.
* Antique lovers will not only find an abundance of shops in the area,
but several weekly antique auctions, such as in Burnham, Maine, an
experience not to be missed. The "in-Maine" secret here is that the local auction starts at 7AM, while the tourist/better quality auction begins at 11AM. I usually stay for both.
* Picturesque Belgrade Village, just 15 minutes away by car (or a nice
bike ride) has 3 fine restaurants, an internet Café, Day’s Village
store (food, liquor, tackle, souvenirs, and the New York Times, and
LOBSTER) as well as several souvenir & arts shops. Some of the locals
also sell lobster and crab during the summer.
* Waterville, Maine (25 min by car)has:
Colby College w famous art museum
1st rate art film cinema
Many different restaurants & interesting shops as well as standard
large stores (large and well stocked super markets, K-Mart, Staples, etc)
*Augusta, Maine (20 min by car)
*State capital
*Local airport
*huge shopping complex
* Freeport, Maine with the Famous LL Bean store and much outlet
shopping is only 45 min away
* In addition there are many seacoast places worth visiting, such as
Camden ,Maine, Rockland, Maine with its famous art museum, etc as well
as smaller eating places on the Atlantic ocean and in picturesque
villages noted for their lobster, seafood and other choices

NOTE: because of the current financial crisis we are keeping the rates for 20010 at the 2008 level,
which is: $500 per week, $900 for 2 weeks, $1600 for the month.7% Maine lodging to be added + $75 cleaning fee
   In 2009-2010 the cottage is already rented until approximately February 5.  NOTE: THIS IS A YEAR ROUND WINTERIZED COTTAGE AND CAN BE AVAILABLE IN THE LATE FALL, WINTER & SPRING MONTHS FOR OCCASIONAL SHORT TERM VACATION RENTAL OR ON A LONGER LEASE BASIS.

Rentals begin at 2PM on a saturday and end at 10AM  on a saturday unless other arrangements have been made. This is the standard time in the Belgrade Lakes and gives the cleaners at least 4 hours between our rental guests.

reservation. Use the email above or call us in London, UK. The number
from the USA is 011-44-20-8523-0017. You can leave a message with your
number if we’re not in and we will return your call. We are 5 hours
ahead of Eastern Standard Time.
To confirm a reservation, a signed Rental Agreement and 50% of the
rental rate must be received within 10 days of the tentative
reservation. The balance of rent, a $300 security deposit, and the
$75 cleaning fee is due 30 days prior to your arrival. The security
deposit will be returned within 14 days of your departure assuming
the home is left as you found it.
Cancellations: All money, minus a $50 cancellation fee, will be
returned if cancellation occurs more than 30 days prior to your
scheduled arrival. If cancellation is received within 30 days of your
arrival, security will be returned and we will attempt to find a
replacement tenant at the same rent. If a replacement tenant is
found, all other money minus a $50 cancellation fee will be returned.
If not we will retain the cancellation fee plus 75% of the rental fee.
