vacation rental description

Classic 1955 Grand Lake Cabin constructed of rustic old fashioned
hand-hewn logs harvested from the property. Our nostagic cabin was
built on the best 5 acres of the historic 1890 Lyons homestead, and
was owned by the origional family until 2004. Beautiful lake and
mountain views. Located across from Shadow Mountain Lake with lake,
snowmobile and fishing access across the road and 50 yards from the
front door. Beautiful view of Shadow Mountain Lake out the living
room, and master bedroom windows.

BRAND NEW DECK on three sides with wonderful views of the lake. NEW
Vermont Castings BBQ Grill, NEW patio heater and NEW porch swing.
Make smores or let the kids swing at our "old school" log bench camp
fire area. Hike our 5 acres and watch the fox family that live on
the far side of the property.

We provide only the best linens, down pillows and down comforters on
all beds. Our sheets are all flannel, to keep our guests warm at
night.

We are located only two minutes to the town of Grand Lake or Rocky
Mountain National Park. Elk, Moose, Deer, and Fox frequent our lush
5 acres. See the pictures below or on our web site of the Moose that
visited us on 9/15/05 while we were building our new deck! The small
master bedroom sleeps two on a full bed.

The adjacent loft area sleeps up to three on the single/full bunk
bed. The interior is all natural handcrafted log
with pine plank demising walls. The bathroom has a BRAND NEW slate
tiled custom stand up shower with no tub. This is a beautiful old
fashioned cabin in the tall pines and aspens!

Grand Lake, a historical old west town, is only about 1 mile from
the cabin and is located adjacent to the largest natural lake in
Colorado. Bumber boats, go-cart racing, mini golf, guided horseback
riding, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, ice
fishing, shopping and dining are just a few of the things to do in
Grand Lake. The Grand Lake Golf Course is challenging and is one of
the most beautiful in Colorado.

In the summer, make the 35 minute trip to Winter Park and ride the
highest alpine slide in Colorado. Or go the other direction into
Rocky Mountain National Park and make the 48 mile drive over the
highest paved road in North America (Trail Ridge Road) into Estes
Park.

In the winter, enjoy snowmobiling in the self-proclaimed Snowmobile
Capital of Colorado. Cross country ski, or downhill ski at the
family freindly Sol Vista ski area 20 minutes from the cabin. Go a
little further for the best downhill skiing in Colorado at Winter
Park a short 35 minutes drive. Winter Park Sking is why we bought
the cabin!

One or two well behaved housebroken dogs up to 70lbs are allowed.

Perfect Family Vacation

Tiffany (Omaha, NE)
Review submitted: January 9, 2012   Date of arrival: July 23, 2011

My three children and I loved this cabin! They had so much fun climbing the large boulders on the property and having our nightly campfires at the firepit that it was sometimes difficult to get them to leave so we could start our day. It was clean, comfortable and the perfect size for us. There were a number of fun games to play and DVDs to watch after we finished making s'mores at the fire. The view from the deck was spectacular and we ate every meal out there. We even had a couple of deer grazing while we ate dinner! It was only a couple minutes from Grand Lake or RMNP so it was close enough to town that we could come home for dinner and still have time to go in town for a kayak ride or wander through the many quaint shops. The best part was the privacy because we never saw anyone one else by our cabin but there were other cabins within view before we pulled in the driveway. So it felt private but not completely isolated. We loved our stay so much that even after being there for 7 nights, we still didn't want to leave. I will continue to recommend this cabin to others as it was exactly what I was looking for when I planned our trip to Colorado! We were really able to experience Colorado in all it's glory, and at a very affordable price!!! Pat was also very kind in answering my questions about the cabin and providing suggestions.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, families with young children, families with teenagers, pet-friendly, sight seeing

Disappointed

jay (Fort Collins, CO USA)
Review submitted: August 1, 2011   Date of arrival: July 15, 2011

Even though the stairs are quite narrow, and the two rooms upstairs tiny, floors noisy, and some items in disrepair, this is a charming cabin.

Our biggest disappointment, however, was that it advertised 'a beautiful view of Shadow Mountain lake'. This was not exactly the case. There is a very busy road 20 yards away or so, separating the cabin from the lake (HWY 34), and trees and telephone lines block most of the view. The traffic noise from the road is noticeable, and the lake is about 100-150 yards away.

Also, the owner is not very responsive to questions via phone calls and emails.
Lastly, it's been more than 14 days, and I haven't received my damage deposit back yet.

Cabin was filthy

Teresa (Englewood, CO)
Review submitted: October 30, 2010   Date of arrival: October 25, 2010

While the cabin itself was very nice, the fact that it had not been cleaned in between guests was disgusting. The following is a list of things we noticed upon arrival:

1) Dirty towels hanging in the bathroom.

2) Dirty toilet and sink.

3) Dog hair all over the living room.

4) Dirty tablecloth (crumbs all over it).

5) The beds weren't made up and had dirty sheets. This was by far the most disgusting thing.

I spent the first hour of our stay cleaning up complete strangers messes. I will never rent this cabin again!

Owners response: Our cleaner broke his back and did not tell us until after this guest had left. We feel terrible and have oferred to return this guests money.
