THE AREA:
Lake Helen, known as the "Gem of Florida", is just minutes from
Daytona, New Smyrna Beach, and Ocala National Forest... and less
than an hour's drive to Disney World and Universal Studios. Lake
Helen has a sizeable Historic District with turn of the century
homes, and is one of the safest towns in Florida.
Although just a very small town, you will find many amenities in
Lake Helen including a pizza shop, coffee shop (with free WIFI
internet access), candy store, arts and crafts shop, antique shop,
public library and day spa. There are numerous public parks that
include tennis, shuffle board and basketball courts. The town
recently built an equestrian center where horse shows are put on
monthly. And, on weekends, the local Bed & Breakfast opens it’s
doors to the public for drinks and socializing.
THE HOME:
Alan and Melissa purchased and began renovation on this 1915 home in
2004, and completed the renovation in 2006. The home has a full
kitchen with maple countertops, farm sink, wood cabinets, and
shelves. Beautifully restored pine floors are throughout the home.
The bathroom has a double-size shower with subway tiles and a
pedestal sink. All windows have been restored with "antique" glass,
and are fully functional to allow for a cool breeze throughout the
home. There are two full bedrooms with an additional twin-size bed
in the office/laundry room off of the master bedroom.
A visit to Lake Helen is truly a step back in time. We think you
will love the friendliness and lazy feel of the town, warmth and
coziness of our home, and the convenience to all that central and
coastal Florida has to offer. You just may not want to leave!
