vacation rental description
Casa Pocito is a restored colonial rowhouse with 18’ high ceilings, thick stone walls and cool tile floors. A Moroccan-inspired pool is the centerpiece of the rear patio. The middle courtyard allows light and air to filter into the interior spaces. Well-known local architect Salvador Reyes Rios originally restored this property in 2000. The current owners and Wisecracker, their design company recently reinvented all of the interior and exterior spaces while respecting the original colonial charm. Systems were upgraded, exterior hardscapes were rethought to improve flow and be more functional. The lines between indoor and outdoors are blurred and become transparent thanks to the openness of the architecture.
They have coined the new name Casa Pocito Redux to define the totally re-imagined design. Many of the furnishings are custom and were designed especially for the house. Artwork, unique textile accents and accessories have been gathered from their travels around the globe. Chunky rustic antique pieces were discovered locally. Modern elements add another unexpected layer. The rooms painted in traditional mineral-based paints are of a palette inspired by nature; lush flora, stone and water. The sum of these elements is a soothing, uncluttered comfortable place that you may find difficult to leave.
Casa Pocito Redux includes plenty of room for entertaining or relaxing in the formal sala, a comedor that seats 8, a center courtyard with a sleek architectural infinity fountain and a sparkling new kitchen. The cocina has polished concrete counters, typical handmade pasta tile, modern stainless steel appliances and an antique armoire for additional storage. It is equipped with everything you’ll need to prepare meals at home if you wish.
There are two air-conditioned bedrooms, including one with an impressive painted 4 poster bed with antique gilt flourishes. The master bedroom overlooks the pool with its wrought iron canopy bed made by a local craftsman. Two modern bathrooms with step-in showers retain their original character with antique tiles. The bedrooms each contain one queen sized bed and have bathrooms adjacent to them. The bedroom suites are located at opposite ends of the house which provides great privacy when two couples are traveling together.
Antique stone walls surround the peaceful rear garden which blooms with bougainvillea, heliconia and flowering banana trees. The centerpiece of this garden is a Moroccan style plunge pool lined with glass mosaic tiles and framed with native stone. The place to refresh, revive and relax.

activities and attractions in Merida Yucatan
Merida is a Mexico that clings to its past. It embraces intriguing
prehistoric archaeological sites and an ancient history well
displayed in its fine museums. Come and bathe in the light of this
antiquity, climb old stone pyramids or study the elegant
architecture of the colonial mansions, sit in the shady plazas and
listen to marimbas near the domed churches throughout the historic
center of Merida.
Explore the fringes of Merida and discover other layers of the
Yucatan. Easy day trips include the ruins of Chichen Itza, Uxmal and
Dzibilchaltun - each site offers it's own unique view into a
mystical Mayan culture. The uncrowded beaches of Celestun and
Progresso; the beautiful colonial town of Izamal with its egg yoke-
colored buildings; small villages like Ticul, rich with crafts, and
exploring the restored haciendas of Temozon, Xcanatun and Yaxcopoil
are excursions well within a half a tank of petrol from Casa del
Pocito. If the urge to leave your Merida townhouse calls, driving in
any direction from Merida promises to be an adventure.
La Casa del Pocito is well located on one of the less trafficked
streets, two blocks from Parque Santa Ana in the historic center of
Merida (Centro). Colorful local markets, museums, the Zocalo, the
busy cafes and Pasejo Montejo are all just blocks from the house.
Taxis are generally plentiful at the Parque Santa Ana to take you to
more distant places. Day trips to beaches (45 minutes), important
Mayan archaeological sites (1½ – 2 hours) and the restored haciendas
that dot the countryside are easy to organize.
