Simply an amazing flat in the very heart of Chelsea, which is THE
place to stay in London. The apartment is in Sloane Gardens, which
is a 30-second walk from Sloane Square and thus the Kings Road.
Sloane Street also runs directly from Sloane Square, which is now
shopping heaven in London; Gucci, Prada, Armani, Tiffanys, and
Harvey Nichols to name but a few. And of course round the corner,
Harrods (and so Sloane Square tube and the bus stops which go
directly to Oxford Street, Piccadilly, Marble Arch, etc. etc.). Yet
because it is tucked away behind Sloane Square, it is remarkably
quiet. And very, very safe.
It's very hard for me to describe just how fantastic the location
is. If you can, ask someone who knows London - then you'll find out!
The apartment is where my wife and I used to live before we had
children - actually it is where we met! We still use it a lot as our
London home, so we have furnished and decorated it to the same
standard as when it was our only home. What this means is things
like the furniture has all been hand made by a local firm up here in
Norfolk. It means the attention to detail fits with the way we like
to live. So all the linens, duvets, towels, pillows, etc. are from a
wonderful company called 'The White Company' for example. Please do
check the link for our website with many photos and lots of detail.
The apartment has two main double-size bedrooms, each with queen-
size beds and fitted wardrobes (if you can fill them, you must be
either Imelda Marcos or you travel in a very, very, serious way!).
There is then a small child's bedroom with a full size single sleigh
bed which also has a pull-out 'trundle' mattress on wheels
underneath. In addition, there is also a new sofa bed in the sitting
room which has a spring mattress and a further mini mattress that
goes on top, which makes a remarkably comfortable queen-size bed as
well.
There are two full bathrooms, both with baths and showers, as well
as a guest loo and sink which makes the sofa bed option that much
more practical, and is very useful if you have guests for dinner.
The sitting room is exceptionally large for London standards, as is
the dining area, which has a beautiful large solid oak dining table
that easily accommodates eight people. The apartment always has been
fantastic for entertaining as it is just so large.
There is a fully-fitted kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, fridge
frezzer, full size oven, gas hob, and all the utensils and stuff one
needs in a kitchen.
There is also a laundry area which has brand new Miele washing
machine and separate Miele tumble dryer, so washing facilities are
about the best you'll find anywhere.
There are also a couple of storage rooms
for things like suitcases, skis, etc., assuming you might want to
schuss down the Kings Road.
The apartment has direct access to the private communal gardens.
Have a look at the photos, please help yourself to our website, and
do feel free to ask us any questions you like. Because we used to
live there all the time, and still stay there a lot, we know the
area, the things to do, places to eat for all occasions - all the
stuff you NEED to know to really have a great time.
Where ever you end up staying, have a great trip to London, and
thank you for wading through paragraphs of my waffle!
Oh, one other thing. I was chatting to a guest the other day who
used to live in London and now lives in California but uses the
apartment as her London base whenever she is in England. She said a
couple of really interesting things. One was that this was the first
ever apartment she had found that was a 'real' home with 'real'
people to deal with. And second, that it was such a shame for so
many tourists who come to London and end up staying in area which is
never quite where it should be. Plenty of examples of 'Notting Hill'
actually being more like the outer reaches of Westbourne Green,
which is not neccesarily a bad thing, except the two are very, very
different, particularly with respect to security.
