Terrazzo floors, flat screen TV with Bose sound and DVD system and
cable TV and a

table and chairs with umbrella. Huge yard, mature gardens full of 50
year old azaleas, camellias, magnolias and other lush southern plants,
surrounded by pine forest. Enormous fireplace. Formal dining room
seats eight, looking out on separate patio with gas grill. Big fully
equipped kitchen including gas cook top and oven, microwave,
refrigerator and icemaker. Two bedrooms with excellent queen beds
separated by full bath with combination tub and shower and dual sinks.
A third bedroom with great twin beds with adjoining full bath with

activities and attractions in Pinehurst Heartland
While Moore County North Carolina is well known as the home of Golf
(with over 400 holes to play!) and for the Pinehurst Country Club and its
famed number two course, the neighboring town of Southern Pines is a
jewel of a small town, offering many enjoyable things to do while
visiting the area.
Southern Pines was the first resort town founded in North Carolina
after the Civil War. Originally marketed to Yankees, the streets are
named for Northern states. Architecturally Southern Pines looks like a
village in Connecticut; there is a wonderful collection of northern-
style houses from the 1920’s not found anywhere else in the State,
making Southern Pines unusually charming and unique. The main street
of Southern Pines is anchored by a restored railroad depot with a new
Welcome Center, and is lined with shops, many great restaurants, bars,
a good bookstore, coffee shops, and a non-profit theatre offering live
performances, screenings and musical events. Southern Pines is an
equestrian community with thousands of acres of pine forest preserved,
and is a great town to walk, bird watch, and simply enjoy the
pleasures of a small town. Pinehurst is ten minutes from Top of the
Hill, and has a new world-class resort Spa.
Enjoy drinks on the patio of the historic, newly restored Jefferson
Inn, hear Clarence play piano at the Holly Inn, enjoy excellent dining
at locally owned restaurants including (my favorites) Ashtons and Chef
Warren’s, work out at the First Health Fitness Center with heated
indoor pool, steam, whirlpool and sauna, visit the many charming shops
of Broad Street, walk the
neighborhood of Weymouth and the grounds of the great house named
Weymouth
and its adjoining woods, take country drives, go antiquing in nearby
Cameron, buy fresh local produce at the farmers market, or simply
relax on the deck or in the hammock listening to and watching the
birds and the stars at night. This sleepy little town is full of
delightful surprises.
Other activities include biking, kayaking, miniature golf, shooting,
tennis, and horseback riding.
