Our two-bedroom/two-bath condominium is a corner unit condo in the Coronado Shores Resort on
Coronado Beach, just south of the Hotel Del Coronado. Coronado Island is connected to San Diego by
the Coronado Bridge, nine miles from the San Diego Airport.
We are university professors who rent out our condo for most of the year while we teach in Texas.
Our unit offers floor-to-ceiling glass windows with views of Coronado Beach/Pacific Ocean and of the
San Diego Skyline/Bay/Bridge/Mountains. The top two photos on this website, San Diego Bay and
Coronado Beach, were taken from the balcony of our condo.
Our condo was upgraded and decorated with all new furnishings in 2005-2006 by Coronado's best known
interior decorator Michele Iacuzzo (google "Interiors by Michele"). As of June 2008, we also have a
brand new top-of-the-line California king bed in the master bedroom with a Sleep Therapy Aloe Vera
pillow mattress and all new bedding selected by Michele Iacuzzo. The second bedroom has a king bed
that is convertible to two twin beds with Sleep Therapy mattresses. The living room sofa is also a
queen-sized hideabed.
There are TVs and DVD players in the living room and both bedrooms, including a 37" flat screen high-
definition LCD TV in the living room and a 32" flat screen high-definition LCD TV in the master
bedroom. DISH satellite TV (including Sirius Radio) is available on all three TVs. As of June 2008,
the living room TV now has a top-of-the-line DISH VIP722 Digital Video Recorder (DVR), so you can
record over 300 hours of TV programs. As of June 2008, we also now have a monthly subscription to
all the DISH high definition TV stations (at present over 70 stations) and to all the HBO channels.
The kitchen is fully equipped, and includes a disposal and a new dishwasher. The glass-topped
circular dining room table and chairs seat six. There are two bathrooms, one with a walk-in shower,
the other with a bathtub/shower. There is a small washer/dryer in the condo, with a full-sized
washer and dryer on each floor. There are two elevators, plus rapid access to the beach via a secure
stairwell. Our balcony has a new marble floor, plexiglass walls and patio furniture. We have one
designated parking spot.
Our condo has high-speed SBC/Yahoo DSL wireless Internet throughout the unit. Long distance
telephone service with AT&T throughout the United States is also included for free (long-distance
calls to other countries must be reimbursed).
The unit is completely stocked with dishes, bedding, towels, beach towels, hairdryer, binoculars,
maps, games, DVDs, books, San Diego guidebooks, etc.
We think our unit is one of the nicest units for rent at the Shores. The furnishings are new; our
unit was decorated by Michele Iacuzzo who regularly does three million dollar homes; our access to
the beach is exceptionally easy; and we have Coronado Beach and San Diego Bay/Mountain views that
are among the best at the Shores (also limited view of the San Diego skyline). We also have flat
screen high-definition TVs, the newest DISH DVR and high-definition TV channnels, and fast wireless
internet access. Moreover, because there are no other condo buildings immediately across from us, we
do not have people looking directly in at our condo, which many other units do. Lastly, we are not
full-time landlords interested only in making rental income off the property, but homeowners who
plan on retiring and living in the condo and want to rent on a part-time basis prior to retirement.
We are looking to rent to individuals who will treat our condo as gently as their own home.
Please google our website "VoxProf" (Voice of the Professor) for more information and photos.
Previous renters' comments on our condo are also posted here, along with photo galleries not only of
our condo (interior and exterior views), but also of the Shores complex and Coronado.
Permissions: No Pets and No Smoking (with no exceptions; we have allergies to both so do not allow
them in our condo). Children are fine; however, please note that our condo is not child-proofed and
is decorated with lots of glass, expensive electronics and white linens (see photos below and on
VoxProf) so it may not be a suitable rental for families with toddlers. You can, of course, bring
toddlers, just please do some child-proofing (for example, put breakables away and locks on cabinet
doors).
The Coronado Shores Resort is a luxury gated beach community. There are 10 high-rise buildings in
the complex, each with its own parking, doormen and video security. The complex includes eight
TENNIS courts and four heated swimming POOLS/jacuzzi. Outdoor gas barbecues and picnic tables are
located in each pool complex. There is a CLUBHOUSE with pool tables, big screen TV and a bar with an
outdoor veranda overlooking the beach, and a teen hangout with table tennis and recreation area.
Regular events are organized in the clubhouse including dances and card games. A PAVILLION is also
available for private parties and special events such as wedding receptions. A fully equipped and
staffed FITNESS CENTER offers nautilus apparatus and weights, with separate sauna and jacuzzi for
men and women. All facilities are available at no extra charge to tenants and their guests. All
facilities are wheelchair-accessible, including the Rec Center and the swimming pools, making this a
particularly nice location for senior citizens and others needing wheelchair access.
Coronado is a village on a peninsula off the coast of San Diego, California. Coronado Beach was
recently voted the number two beach in America and the number one family beach by the Travel
Channel. The Coronado Shores Condominiums are situated on a strip of land, bordered on one side by
the Pacific Ocean and on the other by San Diego Bay and Glorietta Bay.
Local activities in Coronado include world-class golf, bicycling, bird watching, boogie boarding,
concerts in the park, fishing, hiking, library, local theater, parks, restaurants, sandy beaches
with lifeguards, sailing, surfing, swimming, tennis and windsurfing. There are dozens and dozens of
restaurants to choose from in Coronado alone, ranging from family restaurants like Marie Callendars
to world-class gourmet dining at our personal favorite, Chez Loma.
If you golf, Coronado has a beautiful 18-hole championship golf course. If you sail, the Glorietta
Bay Marina is right next door. If you bike, there are bike trails all around the island. A 20-mile
round-trip Rails-to-Trails bike path starts across from our condo. On Sundays in the summer, there
are free concerts in the park. The local public library is excellent, with books, movies and
internet access. Next door to the Shores complex, there is a new (summer 2007) municipal recreation
center with basketball courts and outdoor swimming pool; a skate park is available in Tidelands
Park. There is even winter ice skating at the Hotel Del Coronado from Thanksgiving through the New
Year! And, of course, there is the Coronado Beach, with miles and miles of white sand, with Imperial
Beach further down the Strand.
If you decide to leave the island and take the bridge over to San Diego, major Attractions in San
Diego include Balboa Park, Scripps Birch Aquarium, Gaslamp Quarter, Legoland, Old Town San Diego,
San Diego Museums, San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, the Wild Animal Park. A day in San Diego might include
visiting the pandas at the Zoo, enjoying Mexican food in Old Town, seeing a first-run play at the
Old Globe, and then ending up in the Gaslamp Area for the nightlife. Wonderful restaurants are
everywhere, specializing in fresh fish, Mexican delicacies and new American cuisine. An easy drive
can take you north to Disneyland, east to the mountains and desert, or south to Tijuana, Mexico.
