vacation rental description

Our 2BR2BA condo is a gorgeous corner unit in the Coronado Shores resort complex, facing south towards Mexico. We see the sun rise in the morning and often get up early to watch the sun come up over the mountains. The views -- in three directions -- are spectacular. We see the San Diego skyscrapers to the northeast; the San Diego mountains, Coronado Bridge and Glorietta Bay to the southeast; and the Navy Seals, Coronado Beach and Tiajuana to the south and southwest. We watch the sailboats on Glorietta Bay, the Navy Seals activities, and  families enjoying Coronado Beach. We love to listen to the ocean, and the cross-breezes (which only corner unit condos have) are wonderfully invigorating.

Our condo has been newly renovated. In April 2012, strand bamboo flooring was laid down everywhere except in the bedrooms, which are carpetted, and the bathrooms, which are Carerra porcelain tile. In April-May 2012, the kitchen was completely renovated, with cherry cabinets crafted by a master carpenter, and accented by Volga Blue granite countertops. The colors in our condo are whites, browns and tans, with occasional touches of red. Modern art decorates the walls, together with photographs of Coronado by the owner. The atmosphere is simple,  uncluttered, and welcoming. You can see more photos by googling "Coronado condo" or by going to Vox Professori and clicking the link to Coronado condo. Full-sized photos on HomeAway and Dwellable.

Our two-bedroom/two-bath condominium is a lovely corner unit condo, on Coronado Beach, in the Coronado Shores Resort Complex , just south of the Hotel Del Coronado.  Coronado Island is connected to San Diego by the Coronado Bridge, nine miles from the San Diego Airport. We are university professors who rent out our condo for most of the year while we teach in Texas.

Our unit is located in the El Camino building. The El Camino building entranceway and hallways were renovated in 2011 with all new, beautiful floor tiles, carpet, wall coverings and decorations.

Our unit is 1213 square feet. Our condo has been upgraded and decorated by Coronado's best known interior decorator Michele Iacuzzo (google "Interiors by Michele"). Our condo renovations were done by Hugo Schreiner. A floor map and more photos and information about our condo are available by googling "voxprof" and "condo". Dwellable also has full-sized photos.

Our living room and dining room offer floor-to-ceiling glass windows with views of Coronado Beach/Pacific Ocean and of the San Diego Skyline / Bay/ Bridge / Mountains. (Two of the photos on this website, of San Diego Bay and Coronado Beach, were taken from the balcony of our condo.) The living room has comfortable leather chairs, a hideabed sofa, glass-topped coffee table, a desk, large TV and cabinet. The glass-topped circular dining room table and chairs seat six.

The kitchen is fully equipped (e.g., dishes, towels, small appliances, cooking supplies, cookbooks, condiments), and includes a disposal and new dishwasher. There are professional-sized washers and dryers on each floor of our building.

We have two bedrooms. The master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom and large walk-in closet. The bedroom has a new California king bed with a Sleep Therapy Aloe Vera pillow-top mattress, a desk for working, and a comfortable reading chair. The guest bedroom has a king bed that is convertible to twin beds with Sleep Therapy pillow mattresses, and a comfortable reading chair.  Both bedrooms have flat screen TVs and DVD players. The living room sofa also converts to a queen-sized hideabed.

There are two bathrooms, one with a walk-in shower and one with a bathtub/shower. Both bathrooms were completely renovated in 2011 with the latest Moen fixtures (rainfall shower and separate handheld shower), custom-made solid cherry cabinets, cultured marble sinks, new lighting and Carerra Star porcelain tiles. Each condo floor has its own commercial washer and dryer; we have a small, vent-less washer/dryer combo in our unit also.

In terms of electronic equipment, there are three flat-screen, high-definition LCD TVs in the condo: 37" (living room), 32" (master bedroom) and 22" (second bedroom). The LR TV alsoi has a DVD player. DISH satellite TV (including Sirius Radio) is available on all three TVs; the DISH equipment was updated throughout the building in spring 2012. The living room TV has the top-of-the-line DISH VIP722 Digital Video Recorder (DVR), updated in August 2013, so you can record over 300 hours of TV programs, and a monthly subscription to all the DISH high definition TV stations (over 70 stations). Come back after a day of sightseeing and relax watching unlimited FREE movies selected from our condo's NETFLIX account (also HBO GO), and shown on our living room flat-screen HD TV using our Roku Player.  Bring your own Wiii, Playstation or XBOX too - they are fully functional using our provided HDMI cable and HDMI switchbox.

Our unit is completely stocked with dishes, bedding, towels, beach towels, hairdryers, binoculars, maps, games, DVDs, books, guidebooks, hiking/walking tourbooks, etc. You do not need to bring any of these items.

For those who want to mix work and play, our condo has two desks (one with a LAN line) with chairs, lamps and powerbars. Our condo also has the highest speed available AT&T/SBCGLOBAL DSL wireless Internet, using the top-of-the-line Netgear 7550 DSL wireless/wired modem. Free VOIP local and long distance telephone service throughout the United States and Canada is also included.

We are told regularly that our unit is one of the choicest condo rentals because our unit was decorated by Michele Iacuzzo, our beach access is exceptionally easy (1-2 minutes to the beach!), and our bay/beach views are among the best at the Shores. We also have flat screen high-definition TVs, the newest DISH DVR and high-definition TV channels, the fastest wired/wireless internet access, and unlimited free movies using NETFLIX.

There are no other condo buildings close to us so we do not have people looking directly in at our condo. Lastly, we are not full-time landlords doing this for the rental income. We are university professors renting our condo while we teach in Texas. We are selective, looking for renters who will treat our condo as gently as their own home.

There are ten high-rise buildings in the Coronado Shores complex, each with doormen and video security. The complex includes eight tennis courts and four swimming pools/Jacuzzi. Gas barbecues and picnic tables are available for picnics by the sea. The clubhouse has pool tables, big screen TV and a bar, with an outdoor veranda on the beach, and a table tennis and recreation area where regular events (e.g. dances, card games) occur. A pavilion is available for private parties and special events (e.g. wedding receptions). A fully equipped, staffed fitness center has nautilus, weight lifting equipment and sauna/Jacuzzi. All facilities are available at no charge to tenants and their guests.

Please google "VoxProf" (Voice of the Professor) or "Coronado Condo" for more information and photos of our condo.  See also photos posted on Home Away and VRBO.

Previous renters' comments on our condo are posted on our website along with photo galleries not only of our condo (interior and exterior views), but also of the Shores complex and Coronado.

activities and attractions in Coronado San Diego Area

Coronado Island is a village on a peninsula off the coast of San Diego, California. Coronado Beach in 2011 was ranked the second best beach in the United States and the number one family beach. The Coronado Shores Condominiums are situated on a strip of land, bordered on one side by the Pacific Ocean and on the other by San Diego Bay and Glorietta Bay.

Local activities in Coronado include world-class golf, bicycling, bird watching, boogie boarding, concerts in the park, fishing, hiking, library, local theater, parks, restaurants, sandy beaches with lifeguards, sailing, surfing, swimming, tennis and windsurfing. There are dozens and dozens of restaurants to choose from in Coronado alone, ranging from family restaurants to world-class gourmet dining at our personal favorite, Chez Loma. If you golf, Coronado has a beautiful 18-hole championship golf course. If you sail, the Glorietta Bay Marina is right next door. If you bike, there are bike trails all around the island. A 20-mile round-trip Rails-to-Trails bike path starts across from our condo. On Sundays in the summer, there are free concerts in the park. The local public library is excellent, with books, movies and internet access. Next door to the Shores complex, there is a new (summer 2007) municipal recreation center with basketball courts and outdoor swimming pool; a skate park is available in Tidelands Park. There is even winter ice skating at the Hotel Del Coronado from Thanksgiving through the New Year! And, of course, there is the Coronado Beach, with miles and miles of white sand, with Imperial Beach further down the Strand.

If you decide to leave the island and take the bridge over to San Diego, major Attractions in San Diego include Balboa Park, Scripps Birch Aquarium, Gaslamp Quarter, Legoland, Old Town San Diego, San Diego Museums, San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, the Wild Animal Park. A day in San Diego might include visiting the pandas at the Zoo, enjoying Mexican food in Old Town, seeing a first-run play at the Old Globe Theater, and then ending up in the Gaslamp Area for the nightlife.
Wonderful restaurants are everywhere, specializing in fresh fish, Mexican delicacies and new American cuisine. An easy drive can take you north to Disneyland, east to the mountains and desert, or south to Tijuana, Mexico.

A few of the attractions within walking distance of our condo (see the hand-prepared, annotated and regularly updated Activities and Attractions Binders in our condo for more information and other attractions and activities):

  • Coronado Beach (voted the number two beach in America and the number one family beach), with lifeguards patrolling the beach from sunrise to sunset.
  • Watching the Navy Seals is easy; just sit out on our balcony and watch the activities, ranging from changing of the guard ceremonies, to sea/sand manoeuvers, to helicopter rescue training.
  • A long, lighted boardwalk that runs along Coronado Beach, starting at our condo and running north past the Hotel Del Coronado and multi-million dollar homes, suitable for walks, people gazing and exercising, both day and night.
  • Superb Public Golf Course 10 minutes away (greens fees from $13).
  • Water sports of every kind, including boat rentals, jet skis and sailing, are within walking distance of our condo, with rentals at several locations including the Coronado Marina and Yacht Club.
  • Fifteen miles of biking trails. Bike rentals are available at several locations. One Rails-to-Trails path starts just outside our condo and runs south to Oceanside Beach. Another circular route starts at our condo and winds around the Gold Course, under the Coronado Bridge to Ferry Landing, and back through Coronado Village.
  • The Hotel Del Coronado (a National Historic Site, and host to presidents, princes and Hollywood celebrities) is a 10-minute stroll along the ocean-side boardwalk. The Del has excellent restaurants and multiple shopping opportunities
  • Coronado has over 50 restaurants, many with Zagat ratings and several that are outstanding. Our condo has a Restaurants & Dining  Binder with restaurant reviews and recommendations that we update regularly. (San Diego is a “foodie” paradise with hundreds of restaurants, with multiple Zagat listings.)
  • Two live theaters: (1) Lambs Players Theatre on Orange Avenue, which draws visitors from across California; and (2) Coronado Playhouse, within one block of Coronado Shores.
  • Quaint, specialized local shops for browsing and shopping (including a first-rate bookstore).
  • An excellent Public Library that lends DVDs and books and has free Internet access.
  • On Sundays in the summertime, there are free concerts in Coronado Park. Families and visitors bring picnics, spread out chairs and blankets, and enjoy the music.

Coronado is only a few minutes from San Diego via either the Coronado Ferry that runs every 30 minutes or the free Coronado/San Diego Bridge. In San Diego you will find many attractions and activities. See the hand-prepared, annotated and regularly updated Activities and Attractions Binders in our condo for more details.
