activities and attractions in Lake Norman Heartland

Mooresville is like a resort town, so during the summer almost everything here is casual.  The Estate at Lake Norman is a vacation destination on its own.  With over an acre, it offers a great place to bring the entire family for a relaxing fun filled vacation.  The home has all of the amenities of an estate, offering luxurious accommodations at an affordable price.  Of particular note is the gameroom on the lower level with foosball, pool table, air hockey, and darts.  Once they find the gameroom, you will not see the kids again for a while!  Also plan to enjoy at least one meal on the dock, which has a covered eating space with chairs.  The view is amazing.  You can sunbathe or fish from the dock, so bring those rods and reels.  Relaxing in the lake on a float is also a little bit of heaven!   For children of all ages, one of the most popular attractions in Mooresville is the drive through zoo.  It's called the Lazy 5 Ranch and is on Highway 150.  They have animals of all sizes and types and you can feed them from your car.  For race fans, the first place to stop would be the Race Museum in Mooresville.  They can give you guidance on anything else you would want to do that pertains to racing.  Many of the drivers live in Mooresville.  Some of the best attractions are Michael Waltrip's Race World at Exit 28 and the new Nascar Hall of Fame in Charlotte.  Race Shop Tours also offers guided tours of all of the race shops.   Within a few miles there are several great vineyards, all of which would be located north on I-77.  Most offer tasting and the opportunity to purchase their wines.  The piedmont of North Carolina is well known for its excellent wines.    For shopping, Northlake Mall at Exit 18 has about everything you would want, and for a great outlet mall try Concord Mills in Concord.    Local shopping is available at the intersection of Highway 150 and Interstate 77, where there is a Walmart and other assorted stores.  Just down the road from that on Highway 150 are two shopping centers with Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Best Buy, etc.    For boating or any other information on events, the web offers many options for searches.    There is a fire pit so a great activity for kids at the house is somores over the fire by the lake.  Bring your camera, because some of the most beautiful sunsets you have ever seen will be visible from the deck.

Loved the lake, but THIS house not maintained

Review submitted: August 29, 2013   Date of arrival: July 21, 2013

For an “Estate,” this building is not being maintained as advertised. Although it is staged to show well, w/lovely hardwood floors & dramatic silk flower arrangements everywhere, odd issues were apparent immediately & cropped up all week. Upon arrival, we discovered that the shower stall in the master suite bath had visible mildew on the walls, missing floor grout & a clogged exhaust fan. The “gourmet” kitchen was lovely on the surface, but behind the cabinet doors was another story. The cabinet under the sink was the worst. It was totally wet with spilled soap, mildewed and packed to the top with bottles of cleanser on top of the mess, making it unusable. Every bottom cabinet was dirty & chock full of an odd assortment of duplicate kitchen castoffs mixed in with the necessary items. We had to put these extras & at least 10 silk arrangements into the pantry just to make room for cooking. One cabinet had a broken hinge. Others were filled with at least 30 automatic air freshener dispensers. Several areas of the tile floor had large cracks & the floor flexed when a bigger person walked on it. Over the course of the week, the list of maintenance issues grew: the mattresses and pillows in every bedroom were ancient, the basement had a strong mildew smell, cobwebs covered most decks & windows, not enough trash dumpsters, the gutters were clogged, the hot &cold water in the basement bath were switched in the shower & toilet, 2 toilet paper dispensers fell off the wall after 3 days & 2 kitchen table chairs had supporting rungs that fell out by midweek. At first we thought this was a case of an absentee owner & cleaning crew not doing it's job, but after discussing many items with the owner at checkin & checkout, we reached a different conclusion. For every item, the owner disclaimed knowing about it or had someone else to blame: the cleaning crew, the “drunk tile installer”, etc. All of that being said, we were determined to have a good time and make the best of it. The dock was great and we truly enjoyed floating and playing in the cove all afternoon. A month later we are waiting for the return of our security deposit. Right after we left, the owner informed us she'd be keeping our entire deposit pending an “assessment of damages”. She tells us she might need to replace the kitchen floor if she can't find replacement tiles for two that were cracked. No details on where. We have filed complaints with the Charlotte BBB and this website.

Memorable vacation

Review submitted: June 4, 2012   Date of arrival: May 26, 2012

The description of this home was very accurate and they thought of everything. We all loved the beach and didn't want to leave the water. Took the boat out fishing Sunday morning. Great pictures of the family sitting around the fire one night. Could't believe the ducks coming up through the yard in the morning, kids didn't stop talking about that! More than enough room for a large family and the thing we liked was how many different areas there are that give everybody something to do. Location was perfect, close to everything but feels like you are out in the wilderness. House has everything and we will definitely be back next year.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sight seeing, romantic getaway

Owners response: We take pride in offering what our guests tell us are the best accommodations at Lake Norman! We are glad that your vacation was enjoyable and look forward to welcoming you back again next year.

Wonderful Vacation!

Review submitted: March 7, 2012   Date of arrival: August 20, 2011

Well what can I say, this home provided the vacation of a lifetime. We had the whole family come from different parts of the country for a reunion for my brother, who is ill. This was exactly what we were hoping for. The home was spotless when we arrived, and the view from the family room of the lake is unbelievable. We rented a boat and enjoyed the lake for a couple of days but the rest of the time we enjoyed the beach. There were too many other things in the house we liked to list them all here, but you won't be disappointed if you rent this house! We are already trying to coordinate a return for next year!

Recommended for: age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sight seeing

Owners response: Thank you for the review. It was a pleasure hosting your family at The Estate at Lake Norman. We look forward to welcoming you again this summer.
