Interlochen Center for the Arts (1.5 miles)
ICA is a unique organization. It is world renowned as a venue and
education institution devoted to the arts. It combines a residential
high school, pre-K through 8th grade day school, a summer arts camp,
year-round performances, and two public radio stations. The summer
Arts Festival is host to a number of notable performers every year
ranging from Willie Nelson and the Beach Boys to Yo Yo Ma. This
summer's schedule includes Willie Nelson, Joan Baez, Styx, Gordon Lightfoot, and many others! During the summer there are performances by students and campers almost daily.

National Cherry Festival -  July 5-12, 2014
Founded in 1926, the mission of the National Cherry Festival is to
celebrate & promote cherries, tourism and community involvement, and
to enhance the economic, entertainment, and cultural interests of the
Grand Traverse region. This translates into a week of parades, music,
food, competitive events (including the air dog competition....lots of
fun), and a great airshow. July 2-9, 2011

Traverse Fity Film Festival –  July 29-August 3, 2014
The Traverse City Film Festival has grown to become one of the largest film festivals in the Midwest, and one of the most respected in the country. Last year, there were over 80,000 admissions to nearly 100 screenings, a number of them U.S. or world premieres. A special emphasis is given to foreign films, American independents, documentaries, and films which have been overlooked but deserve the attention of a public starved to see a good movie. The festival also presents classic movies free of charge on a giant, inflatable outdoor screen overlooking Grand Traverse Bay in the Open Space Park at dusk. Panel discussions with directors, writers, actors, and other members of the film industry are offered daily

Traverse City (15 miles)
Outside Magazine named Traverse City one of the top ten places to live
in the United States. The reasons are many. A spectacular natural
environment, neighborly communities that are among the safest in the
nation. Downtown Traverse City has unique local stores and wonderful
restaurants. Two major summer time attractions are the Cherry Festival
and Michael Moore's film festival.

Crystal Mountain (15 miles)
Crystal Mountain offers an exceptional year-round northern Michigan
outdoor experience. The ski resort routinely wins national awards as
the premiere family ski resort in the Midwest and offers a great mix
of challenging terrain and comfortable learning areas. The two golf
courses have received four-star ratings from Golf Digest magazine. The
resort also offers a wide range of water and outdoors activities
depending on time of year.

Check out the shops in Frankfort and Elberta. Walk along the dock and
check out the boats at the marina in Frankfort (you can book a charter
boat for some fishing). Then up to one of the restaurants for some
lunch. A couple have decks on the back that look out over the river
and Lake Michigan. If it's mid-August, you might even be able to see
some of the sailboats headed for Mackinac in the Chicago-Mackinac race.

Sleeping Bear Dunes
Welcome to one of the most beautiful natural areas in Michigan's Lower
Peninsula. Come and enjoy 35 miles of Lake Michigan's eastern
coastline, explore North and South Manitou Islands, and of course
climb the dunes! Learn about the history of shipping, logging, and
agriculture of the area by visiting former Life-Saving Service/Coast
Guard Stations, and Port Oneida Historic District. Do yourself a
favor, go climb the dunes!
