"Professionally Managed with a Personal Touch by a Property Owner Who Cares!"
This is a very central, but private, location in the small fishing village of Tarcoles, only a 1½ hour drive from the San José airport. It's an oceanfront property with a beautiful view of the Pacific and you are able to watch magnificent sunsets from the large covered front porch or from our beautiful raised gazebo. Scarlet macaws fly over morning and evening going to and from their feeding grounds and often spend time throughout the day in the trees on and around the property. Two of them can be seen in the photos, having breakfast in the almond trees at the front of the house.
We also have a large covered patio at the back, great for watching the sunrise with your 1st morning coffee, and have recently added a bodega next to the house, with an additional roomy bedroom and bathroom, that sleeps 2 more people. It is available if you have 5 persons or more in your group for an additional charge. Very nice & private.
You can walk on the beach for miles, sometimes without seeing another soul! Less than a 10 minute drive to the north is the Tarcoles River where you often see huge crocodiles basking in the sun.
Buy fresh fish for your supper, right off the boats, from the Cooperativa only a two minute walk down the road or, if you prefer, you can go to one of the many restaurants within a few minutes drive. For all your grocery needs there is a new, up-to-date grocery store within a 10 min. drive south of the house. Jaco, 20 min. south, also boasts several modern grocery stores, a variety of restaurants, as well as many clothing and souvenir shops.
We are five minutes from Carara Biological Reserve where you are able to hike for hours and view the nesting boxes of the macaws. You will also see many other varieties of birds and animals. We are only 20 minutes north of Jaco, a major surfing area, and an easy one hour and 45 minute drive north of the beautiful Manuel Antonio Park where you can see white-faced and spider monkeys swinging through the trees, or perhaps a sloth, moving in slow motion through the branches.
Sorry, no computer, but we have DSL high speed internet so bring your laptop & keep in touch with your unfortunate friends & family who weren't able to join you in beautiful Costa Rica!
As an added bonus, our English speaking manager is available to help you out, if required, with car rentals, tours (to Arenal Volcano, Monteverde Cloud Forest, zip lines or maybe deep-sea fishing), or anything else that you may need. She will even stock the fridge & cupboards before your arrival! If you are looking for a home away from home, where you can get in touch with nature & see the real Costa Rica, look no further than "Casa Sammie".

NOTES FROM OUR GUESTBOOK:
"My husband, two children(age 10 &11)and I , along with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law and their son(age 3), ventured to Costa Rica in April '09, and we found Casa Sammie to be an outstanding experience for our family. The house, itself, was clean and comfortable. Additionally, the pool was wonderful and was checked daily. We enjoyed going on daily walks through the small village, and we found the local people to be welcoming after a few Hola's! We took a couple of excursions that Patricia, house manager, recommended, and we found them all to be satisfying to our entire family(3 year olds are not always the easiest to please, but Patricia always took this into consideration.) In addition, Patricia would book the excursions which helped to save us money(always a good thing). She was very friendly and went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. We did venture out to Jaco Beach, but we found the peace and quiet of sitting by the pool or strolling on the beach to be more of our kind of vacation. Jaco Beach has a lot to offer, and it is quite close, but it is not our cup of tea. The quick walks down the street for fresh fish, fruits and veggies were just the ticket for us. Also, if you are there on a Friday or Saturday, make sure to have pizza from the restaurant near the center of town. It was excellent! Next year, we are planning another trip, and we look forward to returning to Casa Sammie. Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful place with us!"
"My grandfather, boyfriend and I just spent a week at Casa Sammie. After living in Costa Rica for nearly 3 years I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences we've had here! The house was so charming and comfortable with all the amenities (even that most-important blender for pina coladas!) The pool was a big hit and a quiet, private paradise. Patricia was absolutely wonderful, very friendly and so helpful with all our needs, and relaxing in the gazebo watching the beautiful sunsets was a great way to begin an evening. We highly recommend Casa Sammie to both visitors to Costa Rica and to Ticos wanting to escape the busy Central Valley. Pura Vida!"
"Casa Sammie is now at the top of our list for accommodations in Costa Rica. We have stayed at aparthotels, beach resorts, and beach bungalows and Casa Sammie is the best. It was clean and we felt as if we were at home immediately. We loved the pool and the large yard. The gazebo was a great added touch. Watching the scarlet macaws in the almond trees was a thrill. The location was very good, with the Pacific almost a stone's throw away and the little river nearby. The little village was nice and secluded, but Jacó was close enough for an easy visit. Patricia was very helpful and never far away."
"I stayed with my kids (ages 4, 6, & 9), wife and mother and we really enjoyed it. The house was nice and comfortable and the kids especially enjoyed the pool and having Animal Planet on the TV. The adults appreciated the gazebo, sunset views and especially the scarlet macaws. The town of Tarcoles is small and walkable and I felt it was a good experience for my kids to see what a non-tourist town was like. Just to set expectations, it isn't a neat and clean town (although the house and property certainly were) but we didn't feel unsafe. I would definitely recommend it, especially if you plan to enjoy Carara and want to get to see average life for many Costa Ricans."
We have an online guestbook with lots more comments from previous guests. If you email us, we'll send you the link.
