La Casa del Bombero (The house of the firefighter) in Isla Mujeres

La Casa del Bombero (the house of the firefigher) is a 1500 sq. ft. home located on the
quiet southern side of the island. If you want peace and tranquility in a quiet retreat away
from the noise of town, this is the spot. It faces east overlooking the Caribbean and
features a veranda the length of the house with a sweeping view of the ocean.

It is furnished with hand made wood furniture and has a colorful decor, adding to the
Caribbean flavor of the house. The spacious living area includes a fully equipped kitchen
and open dining and living area. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and a
panoramic view of the Caribbean through the sliding-glass patio door.
The Caribbean-facing front of the building always has a refreshing breeze coming in
through the windows and patio doors.

A second guest bedroom with a king bed, private bath and private entrance is located on
the garden level opening on to our private tropical garden.

The yard is uniquely landscaped with tropical vegetation including Hibiscus, giant agave,
palm trees and other tropical vegetation and fresh produce. The garden is a visual feast
and occasional bears fruit for the belly as well. Guests have enjoyed papaya, watermelon,
fresh mint, cilantro, tomatoes, chili peppers and a Mexican sweet potato called camote,
depending on rainfall and what is in season. The gardener is very friendly and happy to
share information along with the bounty.

The roof-top deck provides another great view and is perfect for sunbathing, stargazing
or your evening cervesa. The front patio provides a panorama of the Caribbean. With a
green landscaped front yard hosting flowers, humming birds, mocking birds, butterflies
and evening fireflies, the view is both breathtaking and peaceful, and is waiting to be
enjoyed. A hammock is available for relaxing inside or out.

Nearby Attractions
With a short cab ride, you can go to town and enjoy it’s hustle and night life, or
go during the day for shopping or lounging at the popular Playa Norte. The
best non-chartered snorkeling on Isla is a 15 minute walk at Garrafón Castillo.
The southern tip of the island (and the most eastern tip of all of Mexico), is a
15 minute walk, with a breathtaking cliff view of the Caribbean from 3 sides.
It’s a great place to watch the full moon rise while the sun is setting. By cab,
you can get to any destination on the island within 10 minutes.
