This 1600 sq ft cottage, originally built in the 1930's, retains
its early Seaside charm while having been updated for a modern
renter's needs. The house, just across the street from the ocean,
is located in the quiet southern cove area of Seaside, OR, one of the
stopping points of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The town center
is about a half-hour walk up the popular Seaside Promenade, a 1.8
mile long, 15' wide, oceanfront walkway built around 1920.
A quieter scene awaits you here in the south end of town where
there is a full view of the Pacific Ocean from the front of the
house. The sandy portion of the beach is about 150' from the front
door. There is also a large new deck and a backyard that parallels
the public Seaside Golf Course.

house rental amenities
As you approach the house, you'll notice the hand-painted
shutters and large, grassy front yard. The garage holds one car
with off-street parking for two to three cars in the drive.
The great room with vaulted ceiling is divided into a seating
area with TV and sofa bed (queen-sized), a seating area around the
fireplace which has a Victorian hand-painted fireplace front, and
the dining area with seating for eight. Outside views to the west
from the great room have a full view to the ocean and Tillamook Head
which dominates the landscape in Seaside. The back of the house
faces south onto the public Seaside Golf Course which is just
outside the backyard's small rock wall. A new and enlarged
deck provides lots of outdoor living space. Inside, above the
door to the back deck is a beautiful antique stained-glass window.
The main bedroom suite has a queen-size bed and a bath with shower. A
second bedroom, also with a queen-size bed, opens onto the back
deck. The loft over the great room has a loveseat, two twin beds,
a TV-DVD player and great views north up the beach all the way
to Washington state. There is a second, larger bath off the great
room, brightly painted to accent the original stained-glass window there.
The kitchen is thoroughly equipped with microwave, dishwasher,
toaster oven and all dishware as well as plenty of kitchen gadgets
such as garlic press, tongs, wine opener, etc.
High quality bed and bath linens are stocked as well as kitchen
and beach towels. Washer and dryer are located in the garage.
The sheltered sunny back deck sports a gas BBQ grill, patio set,
two Adirondack chairs and a long built-in bench for lounging.
You'll see from the photos that the house is tastefully decorated
with soothing beach colors and bright accents. Photos of the
owners' family in Seaside during the early 1900's have been enlarged
and hung throughout the home. Furnishings are a mix of antique and
contemporary and are all in good repair.
activities and attractions in Seaside Oregon
Seaside is 20 miles south of the Oregon-Washington state line, the division being made by the mighty Columbia River. It was just south of the mouth of the river that Lewis and Clark reached the most western point of their Expedition and built their winter encampment in 1805. (The National Park Service maintains the replica fort and museum which can be toured - 25 minutes north of Seaside up Hwy 101.)
Since that time, Clatsop County has played an active role in Oregon history and tourism. Lewis and Clark set up a salt cairn in Seaside to distill salt water and its replica is about 20 minutes walk from the house. Seventeen miles north of Seaside is Battery Russell Park, a part of the WW II defenses along the west coast. Near there was the only location along the west coast actually shelled by the Japanese during the war. During the summer, there is also an annual Civil War re-enactment event at this park.
Seaside was a popular resort location during the late Victorian era, boasting a race track (located where the Seaside Golf Course now is) and its almost two mile long ocean front promenade, still a favorite for walkers and bikers. Gearhart, 2 miles north of Seaside can claim Oregon's oldest golf course, the Gearhart Golf Links, built in 1892 and still open to the public.
While in Seaside, don't miss the Seaside Aquarium, Broadway Park with its basketball and tennis courts, skate park and indoor community swimming pool, as well as the Necanicum Marine Park with paddle boats, fishing dock and free summer concerts. Downtown is very family entertainment-oriented and has typical t-shirt/souvenir shops, arcades with games for young and old, restaurants, taffy stores, even bumper cars and indoor miniature golf. There are also upscale giftware, clothing and shoe stores as well as art and antiques galleries.
Ten minutes walk (or a couple of minutes drive) north of the house is the Seaside Promenade mentioned above that will take you along the oceanfront to downtown Seaside on a broad paved walkway. Also at this intersection is a little retail community with Ken's Market for your grocery needs, and the Goose Hollow Annex, little sister to the famous Goose Hollow Tavern in Portland, providing lunch and dinner with week-end live bands year 'round. The Seaside Golf Course - open to the public - also has a lunch counter and lounge. Within a mile of the house are four gas stations along Hwy 101, a cluster of restaurants including Chinese, Mexican and Italian, as well as the 60 year old North Coast seafood favorite - the Bell Bouy Fish Market - selling the freshest seafood available including famous Dungeness crab and razor clams.
Down the street from the house, is the Tillamook Head trail which leads 6 miles up and over the headland to the Indian Beach picnic and surfing area. And don't forget excellent surfing, clamming, kite flying and beachcombing right across the street from the house.
Fifteen miles south of Seaside is Cannon Beach, a quaint beach community of art galleries, fine restaurants and the natural beauty of Haystack Rock and the Needles...the third largest monolith in the world...waiting to be explored at low tide! North up the coast is Warrenton, a mecca for deep sea fishing, and Astoria, Oregon's mini San Francisco with gracious Victorian homes marching up its hills and a fine Maritime Museum.
Seasonally, there are plenty of organized activities from the world famous Hood-to-Coast long-distance run to hotrod and antique shows at the convention center and the annual volleyball tournament held on the beach. Fine dining can be had up and down the coast as well as plenty of small restaurants that have been family favorites for years.
